My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Do you allow sin or anger to master your life? The first person to hate his brother was
Cain. God warned Cain: 'Why are you angry? ..Sin in couching at the door; it's desire
is for you, but you must master it (Genesis 4:6-7). Sin doesn't just happen; it first grows
as a seed in one's heart. Unless it is mastered, by God's grace, it grows like a weed
and chokes the life out of us.
Only God's purifying love and mercy can free us from bitterness and anger So what
is the antidote for overcoming anger and rage? Mercy, forbearance, and kindness
spring from a heart full of love and forgiveness. God has forgiven us and he calls us
to extend mercy and forgiveness towards those who cause us grief or harm. In the
cross of Jesus we see the supreme example of love and the power for overcoming
evil. Only God's love and grace can set our hearts and minds free from the tyranny
of wounded pride and spiteful revenge. Do you harbor any anger towards another
person? And are you quick to be reconciled when a rupture has been caused in
your relationships? Ask God to set you free and to fill your heart and mind with his
love and truth.
Eusebius, a 3rd century church father, offered the following prayer as instruction for
his fellow Christians: "May I be no man's enemy, and may I be the friend of that
which is eternal and abides. May I never quarrel with those nearest me: and if I do,
may I be reconciled quickly. May I love, seek, and attain only that which is good.
May I wish for all men's happiness and envy none. May I never rejoice in the ill-
fortune of one who has wronged me. When I have done or said what is wrong, may I
never wait for the rebuke of others, but always rebuke myself until I make amends.
May I win no victory that harms either me or my opponent. May I reconcile friends
who are angry with one another. May I never fail a friend who is in danger. When
visiting those in grief may I be able by gentle and healing words to soften their pain.
May I respect myself. May I always keep tame that which rages within me. May I
accustom myself to be gentle, and never be angry with people because of
circumstances. May I never discuss who is wicked and what wicked things he has
done, but know good men and follow in their footsteps."
Remember – pray well, pray hard, pray often. Save souls and don’t lose yours in the
process.
Wishing All Y’All a God Glorious Lent.

Parish Outreach Ministry Pantry: Thank you for all the food donated this past week. Your support is greatly appreciated. This past week has been very busy at Outreach helping quite a few families. At present, the pantry is in need of juice, ketchup, mayonnaise, toilet paper, and shampoo. A special thank you goes out to Girl Scout Troop 288. Through their “Food for Friends” program these young ladies gathered and gave needed food to our Pantry from donations given by people doing their daily food shopping. Thank you to Maryann Kunz who supervised the project, as well as Bridget Brock and her son, Chris, who delivered the items to our Parish. Our Parish is very fortunate to have such community minded young ladies working within our area to help others. Blood Drive: Our second blood drive of the year will take place on Sunday, April 29, 2018 after all the masses. Thank you and God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/FAMILIES
At the 10 AM Mass each week children ages 5 to 9 are invited to hear God's Word in another location, and also just once a month at the 12 Noon Mass, they are invited to do the same. Prayer Blanket Ministry
Meetings are held on Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Contact Janice by email: [email protected]
Next meeting is Saturday, March 24th, 2018 New members are always welcome. Come join this exciting ministry—we create prayer blankets, lap robes, baby blankets, preemie hats, Christmas stockings, “pink scarves”, etc. and donate them to various organizations, nursing homes, etc. We also share ideas, patterns and offer instruction for anyone wishing to learn to knit or crochet or brush up on their skills. For more information call the Parish Outreach. If you have yarn to donate, we will gladly accept it and use it. We are currently working on a project called Twiddlemuffs for people with dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. We are in need of buttons, beads, lace edging or any type of edging, zippers, keys, costume jewelry, small plastic rings, novelty yarn, and ribbon used for clothes or any other small non-breakable objects that can be sewn on. Fleece baby blankets were donated to Miami General Hospital and Tallahassee General Hospital NICU in Florida . Thank you for your generosity and support!

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT
Dear Parishioners,
The 2018 Catholic Ministries Appeal is underway and we have already received pledges. Hopefully,
many more families will be able to make a contribution to this years Catholic Ministries Appeal so we
will be able to reach our goal of $52,300. This effort is much more than a yearly fundraiser that supports
the ministries and programs of our Church. It is an expression of our love for one another.
Thanks to your generosity, we received $54,047 in pledges to the 2017 Catholic Ministries Appeal. Your
donations help meet the needs of people in the Diocese of Rockville Centre and in our own parish. This
money helps the poor and the elderly, supports health services, education and counseling programs for
people of all ages. It provides for religious education for priests and seminarians, for meals-on-wheels,
for chaplain services in hospitals, college campuses and county jails, along with many more ministries
intended to help those less fortunate on Long Island. Finally our parish receives a cash rebate which last
year amounted to more than $12,000. This money helps offset expenses needed to run our parish and
the many programs we offer.
During the Lenten Season we are asked to pray, fast and give alms.
Lent is the perfect time for us to pray for those in need—whether it is for their material, emotional or spir-
itual needs. And when you practice fasting and abstinence during these forty days, please remember
those of our neighbors who are hungry, and consider sharing your gifts with them.
One way to do this is by making a gift to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, which supports programs that
help to feed people in our community each year through Catholic Charities and our Parishes.
God has blessed each of us with so many gifts-our families, friends, talents, abilities, in fact our very lives
are gifts from God. As good stewards we recognize that all blessings come from the Lord and that
these blessings are to be used to serve all God’s children.
Let’s support our bishop, The Most Reverend John Barres and Fr. Richard in his first CMA campaign, by
making a pledge to this years Catholic Ministries Appeal. The programs and services supported by the
Appeal have a significant impact on hundreds of thousands of parishioners throughout our Diocese.
You have until January 31st, 2019 to pay off your pledge. No down payment is necessary. The Diocese
will send monthly reminders. Keep in mind this is not a legal document. If you feel you cannot keep up
your payments, simply discontinue them. Whatever you are able to give, large or small, will be accept-
ed gratefully. To help you decide here are some suggested gift plans:
**$200 pledge—$20 per month
** $100 pledge—$10 per month
**$50 pledge—$5.00 per month
To make a pledge, simply fill out the form below and place it in the collection basket in the coming
weeks or mail it back to the parish office. Thank you for your support and continued generosity.
John Romaine, Catholic Ministries Appeal Chairman
