F i r s t S u n d a y o f A d v e n t
I give thanks . . . for the grace of God bestowed on you
in Christ Jesus. (1 Corinthians 1:4)
Welcome to Advent! Whether it’s your first time
entering this holy season or your ninetieth, be
assured that God, your heavenly Father, is eager to
bestow his grace on you.
As Paul says in today’s second reading, God
has already poured his grace on you. He has given
you access to every spiritual gift as you wait for Jesus
to reveal himself to you (1 Corinthians 1:7). And God
wants to do even more. He wants you to have a great
Advent! He wants to make this season into a time for
you to grow closer to him and come to know him
better.
That doesn’t necessarily mean these days before
Christmas will be easy. Your faith might deepen, or
you might receive unexpected blessings. But you
might also experience hardship or setbacks. Yet no
matter what happens, God will reward whatever effort
you put into your Advent preparations. That’s because
he wants nothing more than for you to deepen your
relationship with Jesus. That’s the grace God is
offering you this season.
So dig in! Start by committing to spend more time
in prayer this month. Use this magazine to read the
Mass readings and meditations with an open heart.
Participate in the life of your parish, maybe through
Eucharistic Adoration or a service project. Pick up a
spiritual book or do an Advent Bible study to develop
your understanding of your faith.
Above everything else, be hopeful: “God is faithful,
and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son”
(1 Corinthians 1:9). That’s what this season is all
about.
“Father, I want to experience your blessing as I wait
and watch and prepare this Advent.”
Doy las gracias . .
Dios quiere hacer aún más. ¡Quiere que tengas un
gran Adviento!
Corintios 1:9). De eso se trata esta temporada.
"Padre, quiero experimentar tu bendición mientras
espero, observo y preparo este Adviento".
Cross Catholic’s Homes for ChristmasFather Glen Meaux
Kobonal Haiti Mission
This year St Ferdinand is sponsoring Cross Catholic’s Homes for Christmas in the Kobonal
Haiti Mission. A tree with Homes for Haiti donation angels will be available before and after Masses
this weekend. As we prepare for our Lord’s birth, please consider contributing as you can toward a
parish goal of $1402 to repair and restore a home, or $1430 as a Gift of Hope toward building a new
home. The cost to build a new home is $8580.
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, and with the global pandemic, the
situation has only grown worse. Tragically, many poor families live in dilapidated shacks, cobbled
together with mud and sticks, making them vulnerable to predators and a variety of illnesses. Here is one family’s story:
Veronique and Lucanier Joseph and their seven children live in misery – crammed into a small, stick-and-mud hut with a flimsy
roof made of rusted metal sheets. “When it rains, forget about it.” Veronique said, describing the rain coming through the holes in
the roof and the floor turning into mud. “The house floods.” These are unsafe and unsanitary conditions, and the children are often
sick with stomach ailments, colds, and the flu.
A new home will provide the Josephs with dignity and security for many years to come. Please join our efforts to ensure that
needy Haitian families have a safe space to call home – for the Christmas season and beyond!
Dear God, as we begin to decorate our homes for Christmas, we thank you for this warm shelter. Let us be ever mindful of those in
our community who have no home. Just as Mary and Joseph found no room at the inn, let us open our hearts in kindness and
generosity to those in need of a warm and safe place to stay on these cold winter nights. Amen.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Friday December 4, 2020
9:30 am to 6:00 pm in the St. Ferdinand Chapel
You are invited Friday, November 6th, to come and receive the graces promised from the source of ultimate love, Jesus
Christ.
Jesus, work in me and draw me more deeply into my relationship with you.
You are needed to make sure the church is never empty while the Blessed Sacrament is exposed. There will be a sign-up
sheet in the Chapel. We will be following the social distancing guidelines as we do at Sunday Mass.
"The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth. Each
moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlastingly more
glorious and beautiful in Heaven, and will help bring about everlasting peace on earth," - Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Advent Calendars and The Year of Grace 2021
Liturgical Calendars (11” x 17” from Liturgical Training
Publications) will be sent home after Thanksgiving break.
Our new liturgical year begins on the first Sunday of
Advent. Please find a place to display your Advent
calendar and Liturgical Calendar at home, and talk about
the liturgical seasons and colors with your family.
The Year of Grace 2021 Liturgical Calendar features a
scene in the center from the Book of Revelation, of God’s
final glory when death has been defeated and all creation
is eternally praising God. The scene includes the four
figures that you can also find in the stained glass windows
in the sanctuary of St Ferdinand’s chapel.
In each corner of the small poster is a scene. The scenes
are from Daniel 12 (St Michael holds the scales of justice),
the 23rd Psalm (a shepherd cares for sheep in green
pastures), John 12 (a grain must fall to the earth and die
to become wheat), and Isaiah’s prophecy of a lavish feast,
with a great multitude gathered at the table.
Information on the back of the calendar explains the
liturgical seasons and how to use the calendar.
