Archdiocesan Family, Happy Easter! Yes, we should continue saying this because Easter is a whole season! So, we’re staying at home for at least another month. Taking the cue from a message shared by another diocese, it’s a really good to remember that we, as Church, are not shut down. Church is never ‘shut down.’ As missionary disciples, we’re being called to follow our Lord in perhaps a deeper, quieter prayer life and we’re being deployed in new and creative ways to bring the love of Jesus Christ to a world in need. Our yearning for the sacramental life of the Church grows and its fulfillment will be wonderful, indeed. SFB RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS ... Dear Families, I sincerely pray that this message finds you and all of your loved ones in good health. I have received several emails inquiring about our scheduled dates for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation Retreat, Confirmation. I’ve individually responded to each but thought it would be best to address all students at this time. Unfortunately, days became weeks and the weeks have turned into a month and now we are unsure of the next government decision in regards to large group gatherings. This pandemic is affecting all of us greatly, but we are in this together. We must do our part to protect the most vulnerable and act responsibly through the social distancing guidelines given to us. Although we can’t physically be with each other in class, we can still be connected through prayer! The dates for our Sacraments, as well as the rest of our scheduled classes are being suspended at this time due to the pandemic and the safety measures that we have been asked to abide by. These measures are for the protection of all. The new dates are contingent on many different factors. At the moment, we do not know when the public celebration of Masses will resume. I will continue to keep everyone informed as updates are available. We will reschedule First Reconciliation. First Communion, Confirmation Retreat and Confirmation. Gowns and gifts have already been purchased and received and are in my office. We are simply just waiting to reschedule these sacramental dates. Cindy at INSPIR3D Photography will still be capturing the event once rescheduled. If you’ve already turned in your forms and fees, rest assure you will be covered. All students should still continue reading their workbooks according to the curriculum grids that were received in the beginning of the year. I ask each parent or loved one to help each child in growing their love for the Lord by praying together. I am with you spiritually through prayer... we must continue to pray for each other in this time of great need. Most importantly, please take time to pray the rosary with your child. This is the perfect opportunity to grow in faith yourself and bond with your child. Students preparing to receive the Sacraments... please continue to ready yourselves for the general requirements. We are still missing Confirmation documents from a number of our students. Please mail those originals in a.s.a.p. to my attention or drop them in the school or parish mailbox in an envelope addressed to me. While we are faced with moments of apprehension, frustration and inconveniences big and small, we must remember that we are blessed and loved by God. Jesus will never let us down, He is always with us, especially in the darkest of times. He is our light; have faith that He can guide us out of this most uncertain of times. Let us remain joined in prayer, loving the Lord and one another. I encourage you to participate as a family and watch mass via different media outlets. RECONCILIATION WHILE CHURCHES ARE CLOSED The Archdiocese has provided the following information regarding celebrations of the Sacrament of Reconciliation while churches are closed. “Individual confessions are currently not possible; this includes virtual or phone confessions, which are never permissible, nor drive-thru confessions. Despite the good intentions around such novelty, we must attend to our underlying theological tradition of the sacrament, as well as support the stay-at-home order and its intended purpose – to keep people safe in their homes at this time. In keeping with long standing pastoral practice when penitents’ access to the sacrament is restricted, they can be assured that their sins are forgiven if they make an act of contrition with a firm resolve to approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation after the stay-at-home order is lifted. The faithful should be encouraged to pray particular prayers or meditate on passages of the bible … to assist them in seeking the mercy and forgiveness of God and the grace of reconciliation.” I suggest the parables in Chapter 15 of Luke’s gospel. CHRISTIAN BURIALS The Archdiocese has issued the following guidelines for funeral services and burials until further notice. “Burials at Catholic Cemeteries may continue and are not suspended at this time; however, attendance limit and social distancing requirements apply per below. Please note that our churches are still closed; therefore, funeral Masses are not possible. However, if a family requests a funeral, there are two options: 1. A funeral service, not a Mass, may take place at the funeral home a. the limit for attendees remains 10 people at this time (inclusive of the funeral director, priest, mourners, etc.) b. All attendees must practice social distancing 2. A funeral service may take place graveside at the cemetery before committal/burial. a. the limit for attendees remains 10 people at this time (inclusive of the funeral director, priest, mourners, etc.) b. All attendees must practice social distancing” Please note that the family can plan to celebrate a Funeral Mass at the church once restrictions have been lifted, even when the burial already has occurred. ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Archdiocese has issued the following guidelines for celebration of the Anointing of the Sick until further notice. “Under the State’s exemption for essential services, the Archdiocese of Chicago is including Anointing of the Sick as an essential service. However, out of an abundance of caution only a select number of priests will be allowed to administer this sacrament to any confirmed COVID-19 patients until further notice. When a request is made for a priest to administer this sacrament, the priest must inquire if the ill person is a confirmed COVID-19 patient. If no, the priest may proceed under the following guidelines.

The priest must maintain social distance with everyone present so as to offer comfort without making physical contact.

The priest must wash or sanitize his hands with soap and warm water both before entering the room and after leaving.

The anointing must be done with a cotton-tipped swab or a cotton ball which will be burned or buried after use.

Bleach wipes or soap and water will be used to sanitize all supplies both before and after the anointing. If the sacrament is celebrated in a health care facility, the priest must follow the protocols and protective

guidelines of that facility. If yes, the family must be notified that, due to guidelines set forth by the archdiocese to ensure everyone’s health, another priest must take the call and that the family will be contacted by that priest. Explain to the family members that out of an abundance of caution only a select number of our priests are allowed to administer this sacrament to any confirmed COVID-19 patients until further notice. (4 priests will be designated priests in each Vicariate who are under age 60 and in good health). These priests will follow special precautions established by the Archdiocese.”

Mimo, iż wobec zaistniałej sytuacji, nie mogły się odbyć parafialne rekolekcje wielkopostne, to jednak

ufam, że spotkamy się na rekolekcjach za rok, w Wielkim Poście 2021. O to się proszę módlmy i ufajmy, że

tak się stanie!

Czułem się w Waszej Parafii i pośród Was bardzo dobrze; zabieram do Ojczyzny wiele miłych

wspomnień, którymi będę się dzielił z innymi. Żal odjeżdżać... Nie mówię „żegnajcie”, ale mówię „do

3 MAJA - UROCZYSTOŚĆ NMP KRÓLOWEJ POLSKI

3 maja Kościół katolicki w Polsce obchodzi uroczystość Najświętszej Maryi Panny Królowej Polski. Nawiązuje ona do ważnych wydarzeń z historii Polski: obrony Jasnej Góry przed Szwedami w 1655 r., ślubów króla Jana Kazimierza - powierzenia królestwa opiece Matki Bożej, a także do uchwalenia Konstytucji 3 Maja.

Uroczystość została ustanowiona na prośbę biskupów polskich po odzyskaniu niepodległości po I wojnie światowej. Oficjalnie święto obchodzone jest od 1923 r. W 1920 r. zatwierdził je dla Kościoła w Polsce papież Benedykt XV. Po reformie liturgicznej w 1969 r. święto zostało podniesione do rangi uroczystości.

Święto wyraża wiarę narodu w szczególną opiekę Bożą, jakiej Polacy doświadczali i doświadczają za pośrednictwem Maryi. Jej kult jako Królowej Polski jest bardzo stary. Przykładem może być "Bogurodzica", najstarsza polska pieśń religijna, która przez wieki pełniła rolę narodowego hymnu.

W czasie najazdu szwedzkiego, 1 kwietnia 1656 r. w katedrze lwowskiej, przed cudownym wizerunkiem Matki Bożej Łaskawej, król Jan Kazimierz złożył uroczyste Śluby, w których m.in. zobowiązywał się szerzyć cześć Maryi, wystarać się u papieża o pozwolenie na obchodzenie Jej święta jako Królowej Korony Polskiej, a także zająć się losem chłopów i zaprowadzić w państwie sprawiedliwość społeczną.

Temu uroczystemu wydarzeniu towarzyszyło odśpiewanie litanii do Najświętszej Panny. Nuncjusz apostolski dodał do tej modlitwy wezwanie "Królowo Korony Polskiej, módl się za nami", które zgromadzeni biskupi i senatorowie trzykrotnie powtórzyli.

Szczególne związanie kultu Maryi, Królowej Korony Polskiej, z Jasną Górą nastąpiło 8 września 1717 r., kiedy to dokonano koronacji jasnogórskiego obrazu, co uznano za koronację Maryi na Królową Polski.

Wezwanie "Królowo Polski" zostało na stałe wpisane do litanii loretańskiej w 1908 r., kiedy zezwolił na to papież Pius X. W tym samym roku ustanowił on też święto Królowej Polski dla diecezji lwowskiej.

Po uzyskaniu niepodległości przez Polskę biskupi zwrócili się do Stolicy Apostolskiej z prośbą rozszerzenia tego święta na cały kraj. Jako datę zaproponowano dzień 3 maja, na pamiątkę pierwszej polskiej Konstytucji, która realizowała część ślubowań króla Jana Kazimierza. Święto zatwierdzone zostało oficjalnie w 1920 r. przez papieża Benedykta XV.

W 300. rocznicę królewskich ślubów, nową ich wersję opracował przebywający wówczas w miejscu internowania Prymas Polski kard. Stefan Wyszyński.

Jasnogórskie Śluby Narodu - po uwolnieniu Prymasa - złożył uroczyście na Jasnej Górze Episkopat Polski 26 sierpnia 1956 r. w uroczystość Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej w obecności miliona wiernych. 10 lat później, 3 maja 1966 r. tam właśnie odbyły się centralne uroczystości milenijne chrztu Polski. Dokonano wówczas aktu zawierzenia Matce Bożej i powierzenia narodu polskiego Jej opiece na kolejne 1000 lat.
