SAINT GABRIEL THE ARCHANGEL SADDLE RIVER
“We are witnesses!” The scripture readings for Easter
Sunday concentrate on details reported by eyewitnesses. Listen
carefully and you will be drawn into the stories yourself. Peter
reports the good works Jesus did, his death on the cross, and his
resurrection. The passage from John’s Gospel has us running to
the empty tomb with Peter and John and peering inside to see the
cloths used to cover Jesus’ body. Psalm 118 sums up our re-
sponse: “It is wonderful in our eyes!”
What resurrection details do we see in our lives today?
How have we died to our old lives and been raised up again with
Jesus? Let us pay attention to the new life around us. It is won-
derful in our eyes.
Happy Easter!

SAINT JOHN’S ACADEMY NEWS
HAPPY EASTER TO OUR PARISH FAMILIES!
MAY THE BLESSING OF THE RISEN CHRIST BE
WITH YOU THIS EASTER SEASON AND
ALWAYS!
During Lent, our students collected change in their mite
boxes to benefit children around the world. This collection
is coordinated through the Missionary Childhood Associa-
tion and our diocesan mission office. This project encour-
ages children to be missionaries for other children. $3.00
buys 75 pencils for a mission school, $4.00 buys bread for
ten children for one week and $5.00 buys milk for one child
for an entire month.
FINANCIAL REPORT The amount of the collection for March 20 was $15,635.75.God
Bless you and your family for your continued support.
YEAR OF MERCY
Excerpts from Pope Francis’ letter on the Year of Mercy
The Church is commissioned to announce
the mercy of God, the beating heart of the
Gospel, which in its own way must pene-
trate the heart and mind of every per-
son….In the present day, as the Church is
charged with the task of the new evangeli-
zation, the theme of mercy needs to be
proposed again and again with new enthu-
siasm and renewed pastoral action. It is absolutely essential for
the Church and for credibility of her message that she herself live
and testify to mercy.
We Are Living Stones Campaign
replaces
Archbishop’s Annual Appeal for 2016
Compelled by the Gospel message to make disciples,
preach the Good News, and serve the least among us, each parish
of the Archdiocese of Newark has been invited to join together in
generating the financial means needed to further our mission and
secure a solid financial foundation for the future. The We Are
Living Stones campaign is an Archdiocesan wide campaign to
ensure that the work of the Gospel will be able to continue in the
Archdiocese of Newark.
Since our parish will be starting the We Are Living
Stones campaign shortly, the decision has been made by the Arch-
diocese to replace the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, this year, and
incorporate a Works of Mercy goal for each parish through the
We Are Living Stones Capital Campaign. Therefore, the Annual
Appeal will not be conducted separately in 2016; it will be part of
the We Are Living Stones Campaign. However, the Annual Ap-
peal, now called the Sharing God’s Blessings Appeal will return
in 2017.
Our parish has been generous to our Archdiocese
through the Annual Appeal in the past and I know you will be
generous in your support of the We Are Living Stones Campaign.
There are numerous aspects to this campaign, and it is
important that everyone is well informed. Over the next couple of
months, we will be hosting a series of informative receptions at
St. Gabriel’s to detail how this campaign will benefit our parish.
All registered households will receive an invitation to attend a
reception. This is an opportunity to gather as a parish, learn about
the campaign, and have your questions answered.
Thank you for your prayers and support.
