In the Gospel today, Jesus says “I give you a new commandment: love one another….This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Love means self-sacrifice. Parents sacrifice plenty for their children, spouses for each other, we respond to others’ tragedies with gifts of money and service. We reach out to the perfect stranger on the street who is in need, even those who wrong us, loving others as God has loved us. These sacrifices are the “stuff” of our everyday living and loving sharing in Jesus’ mission. In the month of April, through your gifts the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and care of Jesus to the poor by assisting ten families, providing financial help with utilities and rent. Thank You! At this time of renewal consider joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 12:30PM in the Conference Room of the Parish Center. We welcome new members and can be reached at 234-6535,ext.103. Join us and share in Jesus’ new commandment.

Belong More Deeply

Heavenly Father, Pour forth your Holy Spirit to inspire me with these words from Holy Scripture.

Stir in my soul the desire to renew my faith and deepen my relationship with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ so that I might truly believe in and live the Good News.

Open my heart to hear the Gospel and grant me the confidence to proclaim the Good News to others.

Pour out your Spirit, so that I might be strengthened to go forth and witness to the Gospel in my everyday life through my words and actions. In moments of hesitation, remind me: If not me, then who will proclaim the Gospel? If not now, then when will the Gospel be proclaimed? If not the truth of the Gospel, then what shall I proclaim?

God, our Father, I pray that through the Holy Spirit I might hear the call of the New Evangelization to deepen my faith, grow in confidence to proclaim the Gospel and boldly witness to the saving grace of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,

forever and ever. Amen.

ST. JOHN OF GOD // CATHOLIC CEMETERIES

As I announced a few weekends ago, I have asked Catholic Cemeteries to maintain and manage St. John of God Cemetery. SJOG Cemetery will still be the property of the parish; however, The grounds and graves will be cared for by the staff of Queen of All Saints Cemetery.

There are benefits and drawbacks to this change:

*The overall appearance and upkeep of SJOG Cemetery and the graves will improve. *Eventually (after a year) Catholic Cemeteries will install a sprinkler system and improve the roads in SJOG Cemetery. *All questions, issues, and grave sales/openings will be handled at the Office of Queen of All Saints (631-234-8297). *The cost of a grave and an opening at St. John of God Cemetery will be the same cost of a grave and opening as at Queen of all Saints. This figure will increase on September 1, 2013.

PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OF THE INFORMATION ABOVE, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT THE PARISH.

God’s Blessings Always, Fr. Chris Nowak
