Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time – November 10, 2019 – 32 Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

God’s Love strengthens us to believe. In these last weeks of November we approach the end of the Liturgical Year in the Church calendar. The focus shifts to the last things e.g., the end of time, resurrection from the dead, etc. Today’s theme is the resurrection. In the First Reading we see the example of the Maccabees family, one that led the rebellion against the Greek tyranny of the Jews. The Greek emperor of Syria ordered all people give up their religious practices to adopt Greek ways. This Jewish family (for whom this book is named) was heroic in standing up to death for their faith, for they knew they’d be rewarded in the next life; they were martyrs for their faith in the resurrection. In the Responsorial we find the psalmist calling on the Lord to deliver him from his enemies. It is an expression of certitude that God will intercede for him. God stands by the just and punishes evildoers, though we may not live to see their pun-ishment. The Second Reading admonishes us to keep growing in the Faith. Beyond knowing our Faith we are called to live it. Few of us will be called to witness as martyrs, but we can all give witness daily in life’s ordinary events. By God’s grace we do this, even if we are not immediately delivered from the wicked who do not have faith. The Saddu-cees, a religious group in Israel that did not accept the idea of resurrection as the Pharisees did, try to trap Jesus with their story in today’s Gospel. They speak of the woman (with the seven husbands) as if she were a piece of property, asking Jesus who would own her in Heaven. Jesus explains that Heaven is not like that, we do not belong to one anoth-er, love is not exclusive. In Heaven we love all without limit, for we love with God’s love. Jesus uses a rabbinic argu-

ment to challenge the Sadducees’ anti-resurrection thinking by explaining that God is the God of the living, not the dead.

El Amor de Dios nos fortalece para creer. En estas últimas semanas de no-viembre, nos acercamos al fin del Año Litúrgico en el calendario de la Iglesia. El enfoque se transfiere a las últimas cosas, por ejemplo, el fin del tiempo, resurrec-ción de los muertos, etc. El tema de hoy es la resurrección. En la Primera Lectu-ra vemos el ejemplo de la familia de Macabeos, una que fue líder de la rebelión en contra de la tiranía Griega hacia los Judíos. El emperador Griego de Siria or-denó que el pueblo dejará sus prácticas religiosas y adoptarán los modos Griegos. Esta familia Judía (por la cual se nombró este libro) fue heroica al enfrentarse a la

muerte por su fe, puesto que sabían que serían premiados en la próxima vida; fueron mártires por su fe en la resurrec-ción. En el Salmo Responsorial encontramos al salmista que llama al Señor para que lo liberé de sus enemigos. Es una expresión de certeza de que Dios intercederá por Él. Dios se para junto a los justos y castiga a los malhechores, aunque pueda que no vivamos para ver su castigo. La Segunda Lectura nos amonesta a continuar creciendo en la Fe. Más alla de conocer nuestra Fe, se nos llama a vivirla. Pocos de nosotros seremos llamados a ser testigos como mártires, pero todos podemos ser testigos de los eventos diarios de la vida. Por la gracia de Dios hacemos esto, aunque no seamos in-mediatamente liberados de los malvados que no tienen fe. Los Saduceos, un grupo religioso en Israel que no aceptaba la idea de la resurrección como lo hacían los Fariseos, intentaron atrapar a Jesús con su historia en el Evangelio de hoy. Hablan de una mujer (con sus siete esposos) como si fuera una pieza de propiedad, preguntándole a Jesús a quien le per-tenecería ella en el Cielo. Jesús explica que el Cielo no es así, no le pertenecemos el uno al otro, el amor no es exclusi-vo. En el Cielo amamos todo sin límite, porque amamos con el amor de Dios. Jesús usa un argumento rabínico para amenazar los pensamientos anti-resurrección de los Saduceos al explicar que Dios es el Dios de los vivos, no de los muertos.

The St. Joseph’s Ladies Prayer group will meet on Tuesday, November 12th in St. Patrick Hall at 9am. All are wel-come to join us for the daily 8:15am mass prior to the meeting.

The 2019 St. Joseph's Living Nativity performance will be Sunday, December 15, 2019. ALL YOUNG PEOPLE of the Parish are invited to join in the Living Nativity. The first meeting and rehearsal is November 10, 2019 at 10:30am in St. Patrick's Hall.

Annual Thanksgiving Gathering with Clarksburg Community Church. St. Joseph Church and the Clarksburg Community Church will be gathering together for our annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving celebration on Tuesday, Novem-ber 26th at 7pm . This year the celebration will be held at St. Joseph Church. Be sure to mark your calendars to attend!

Annual Poinsettia Sale. The Delta Lions will be selling beautiful Chr istmas poinsettias until December 8. The poin-settias are $12 each. Order forms and envelopes will be available on the piano. Please place your completed order form with payment in the red box on piano. Proceeds benefit scholarships at Delta High. The “In Memory Of” Poinsettias will be placed in the sanctuary for Christmas.
