Pastor’s Column THE ETERNAL GOD
King David wished that the ark of God might have a more permanent home. David may have envisioned something like the cedar palace where he resided. God had in mind something more: a throne where David’s descendants would rule for ever, a kingdom where Jews and Gentiles alike would be welcome. Mary’s prayerful nature led to an even more disturbing message. She would conceive and bear a Son though she was not yet married. “How can this come about?” Mary wondered. “The Holy Spirit will come upon you,” she was told (Luke 1:35). Mary’s acceptance of this difficult challenge ushered in this, the final age of God’s reign. What was once a secret known only by chosen people like King David and his descendants must now be made clear to all so that, as Saint Paul wrote to the Romans, we can be brought to the “obedience of faith” “according to the command of the eternal God” (Romans 16:26).
Wishing you Every Happiness this Holiday Season
and throughout the year!
Religious Education Dear Religious Education families, Happy fourth Sunday of Advent! This Thursday, as you prepare to conclude the season of anticipation and enter the season of celebration, don’t forget to keep the birth of Jesus in mind and in the midst of your domestic Church at home. I wish you a very blessed Christmas. In His service, Jessie
Keep Christ in Christmas To remind travelers of the true meaning of the season, we will display an outdoor manger in the front of the Archives Building (Rts. 100 & 141). Perhaps you could put up a nativity scene when decorating your lawn this season. Imagine what could happen if people saw nativity scenes all over town proclaiming the birth of the King – the true meaning of Christmas.
Sending Christmas Blessings To You and Your Loved Ones!
A Warm Welcome Awaits You If you are new to the area and would like to join our parish family, you can register at the rectory by completing a registration form or online at www.stjosephonthebrandywine.org. Forms can also be found in the back of church. Upon completion, you may return your application to the rectory or place in the drop box if you are in a hurry. We welcome you and your family and look forward to having you as part of our faith community.
The Nativity Gospels A Virtual Christmas Concert Presented by the Music Ministry of St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church. The Concert will debut on our website www.stjosephonthe brandywine.org on
Sunday, December 13th and be available for viewing throughout the Christmas Season.
Filling the Void The holiday season is often full of cheer, but also sadness as we gather with friends and family. There's often a void left by those who are longer alive to celebrate. While visiting the cemetery alone or with family; there are many memories you can share together. Remember the good times, the laughter, the love, and the challenges you faced together. Share meaningful quotes, recite from the Scriptures, have fun, joke around, plan for the future and reflect on the past.
For more than 150 years, St. Joseph on the Brandywine cemeteries has been a sacred burial place. Out of respect for the sacred nature of the cemetery, consideration for those with nearby plots and for the safety of visitors and workers, please observe the long-standing rules and safety tips listed on our website under cemetery.
During this holiday season, please be mindful when you are here for Mass or attending any events, to keep your car doors locked at all times and do not leave anything in the car.
Goodbye Snowbirds Prior to flying south for the winter, remember you can always visit us at wwwstjosephonthebrandywine.org. Enjoy the sunshine! Don’t forget to bring some back for us!
