MIRACULOUS MEDAL NOVENA Starting this Monday, April 23, the Miraculous Medal will take place in Mary’s Chapel in the Lower Church. The Novena is held each Monday at 7 pm. This change in location is being made at the request of many of those who attend this weekly service. Mary’s Chapel seems appropriate for a novena to our Blessed Mother.

PASTOR’S COLUMN OUR PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL There are various committees and councils that help our parish to do the work of the Lord and assist me in my role as pastor. One of those committee is our Parish Pastoral Council. The Council has nine members. In addition, the
Pastor and Director of Operations serve on the Council. The Council also has professional facilitator, Sr. Donna Ciango. The following people now serve on the Council.
Jeff Braun, his wife Felecia and their daughter Elizabeth, a student at Saint Joseph School, have been parishioners since 2000. He is active in the Cornerstone Retreat Program for the last seven years, has assisted with the parish track program, and helps with the Liturgy of the Word with Children. He is currently serving the final year on Council.
Jude A. de los Reyes with his wife, Maricel, and his four children, Lourdes, Raphael, Gabriela, and Josanna, have been parish members since 2003. He works as an information systems analyst. He is involved with the Baptism, Bible Study, Altar Server and RCIA ministries and active with the K of C, the NeoCatechumenal Way and the Cornerstone Retreat Program.
Phil DeRosa has been a parishioner since 1989. As a
Council member, Phil was instrumental in helping launch our first ever Stewardship Day of Service. He is the co Director of the Ministers of the Holy Eucharist and a past director of a Cornerstone Retreat. He works for Prudential Financial and lives in Oradell with his daughters Leanne and Caroline.
Christie Hay has been a member of the parish for 31 years. She lives in River Edge with her husband, Brian, and their three children, Christian, Brianna, and Kylie. Christie is an English teacher at Paramus High School. She also teaches in our Religious Education Program.
Betty Kern has been a member of the parish for 14 years. She is involved in the lector ministry, Cornerstone Retreat Program, Bible Study, and Stewardship Day. She is the Finance Council representative to the Parish Pastoral Council. She works for Unilever as an accountant/analyst.
Gerry Murray and his wife, Therese, have been members of the parish for 40 years. Their four children graduated from St. Joseph School. He has spent his working career in Human Resources specializing in Employee Benefits.
Tracy Petrie is serving her last term on the Council. She and her husband Scott were married at St. Joseph Church in 2001 and have been active parishioners ever since. Tracy and Scott have three boys, Thomas in first grade at SJS, Eric in kindergarten at SJS, and Jonathan happily participates in the Good News for Little Ones program on Sunday. Tracy is a class parent, a Baptism
team member, and part of the Cornerstone Program.
Tracy Schoenberg has been a member of the parish for
over eight years along with her husband Matt and their three children, Eve, David and Marisa. A former television news producer and past editor of the New Milford Patch, she is a volunteer with the Girl Scouts, Little League, Oradell Public School PTA, Cornerstone Retreat Program and our Religious Education Program.
Cathleen Walsh has been a member of the parish since 2005. She taught religious education for three years. She and her husband are the proud parents of Elizabeth and James, students at St. Joseph School. Cathleen works as a Nurse Practitioner in Paterson, NJ.
Sr. Donna Ciangio, Council Facilitator, is a Dominican sister. She is the Director of Church Leadership Consultation and works internationally and nationally in promoting parish vitality and pastoral direction, congregational and leadership development, faith formation, small Christian communities, consulting with parishes and dioceses, and in many other areas. She is a published author.

GOOD NEWS FOR LITTLE ONES The Good News for Little Ones program is offered for
children 6 months through 4 years of age. It provides a safe and comfortable place for children while their parents attend our 9 am or 10:30 am Sunday Mass. The program is located in the greenhouse classroom in Saint
Joseph Lower School on Elm Street.

“BINGO & BASKET” THURSDAY, APRIL 26 Please come join your friends and fellow parishioners as we come together to support our Sister Parish, the Church of the Resurrection in Jersey City with our "Bingo & Basket Fundraiser." It will take place this Thursday evening, April 26, in the St. Joseph Lower School Gymnasium. Doors will open at 6 pm & the Bingo Games begin at 7 pm. There will be 14 games of Bingo. Five (5) COACH pocketbooks are the prizes for five of the Bingo games. Nine (9) VERA BRADLEY pocketbooks are the prizes for the other nine games. The Bingo games will be followed by a Tricky Tray. Beverages & delicious desserts will be served.

DAY OF SERVICE SATURDAY AFTERNOON, MAY 19, 2012
IMPORTANT INFORMATION Day of Service, Saturday, May 19, 2012, is a wonderful opportunity for all adults, youth, and families in our parish to come together for a few hours to serve our local community in the true spirit of our Lord. We encourage you to participate. Booklets detailing all of the service
projects. will be available after the Masses this weekend, April 21 & 22. Take the opportunity to review the booklet and decide which project interests you.
You can also access information and register for this event online through the Saint Joseph Parish website. Please go to (sjcnj.org) and click on the Day of Service tab for all the details. The registration deadline is Monday, May 7, 2012. Please make note of the following dates.
DAY OF SERVICE CLOTHING COLLECTION One of our many service project that will take place on our Day of Service May 19, is to sort and package clothing for children in need who are among the less fortunate in our world. In advance of May 19, we welcome donations of new or “gently used” clothes (winter and summer), in all sizes from babies and toddlers to teens. The clothing will be sorted and packaged for distribution to the orphanages of the Ukraine, to the children of Resurrection School, our sister parish in Jersey City and victims of the tornadoes in the Mid-West. Clothing donations can be brought to the rectory parking lot garage BEFORE or AFTER MASSES the weekend of April 28 & 29 or the weekend of May 5 & 6.
DAY OF SERVICE –OPERATION SHOEBOX Another service project on May 19 is to sort and package toiletry items for our troops which will be sent through Operation Shoebox. In advance of May 19 we welcome donations of these items: Bug Lotion/Wipes, Lip Balm, Q-Tips (travel size), wipes (travel size), toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo (travel size), first aid products, razors, powdered drink mixes (to add to bottled water), socks, powder/foot powder, coffee/tea bags (single/small boxes) hot chocolate, beef jerky/Slim Jims (no pork), snack foods (pretzels, chips), Microwavable foods, eye drops, writing materials, batteries, canned tuna, Dried fruit, cookies/crackers (snack size packages), cereal/protein bars. Donations can be brought to the rectory parking lot garage BEFORE or AFTER MASSES the weekend of April 28 & 29 or the weekend of May 5 & 6

The Gospel is the Good News about Jesus. The Gospel Reading for today is from
St. Luke Chapter 24, verses 35-48
After Jesus rose from the dead that first Easter Sunday, he started to appear to his followers. They were amazed and happy to see him. But when he first appeared they thought they were seeing a ghost!
But Jesus said to them “Peace be with you” and “Do not be afraid”. He told them to look at the wounds in his hands and feet and see it was really him. He even sat down with them and had some fish to eat so that he could prove he was no ghost. After all, a ghost does not sit down at a table for dinner.
His disciples were overjoyed that he was with them once more. He proceeded to tell them about the scriptures and about repentance and forgiveness. And he told them to go out and tell all the nations about him. Jesus wants us to continue to tell everyone about him and to continue to spread his good news to everyone.

He even sat down and ate some grilled fish with them.
