Reflection by Father Anthony
Today we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord! It is now
forty days since we celebrated the Resurrection of our
Lord Jesus Christ. Yet, it is ten days before we celebrate
Pentecost. This celebration of the glorious ascension of
Jesus, signifies the completion of Jesus' work on earth.
This day, as well, gives us hope for the promises which
Jesus made—"when I go and prepare a place for you, I
will come again and I will take you to myself, that where I
am you may be also". Our Lord Jesus Christ had a
mission of redeeming humanity from sin and death, not
according to his will but the will of his Father. In other
words, Jesus was sent for a task which he has now
completed perfectly and he is now exalted high above the
heavens and given a name above every name. The moment
we Christians know this, then we too are called to be
witnesses to Christ, such that where he has gone we also
may follow. Jesus has led us to that destination where he
wants us to follow. We also must, therefore, be loyal to
our Lord in order to be exalted like him. Today's
solemnity reminds us that we do not belong to this earth,
but we belong to God and we should go to him one day.
All the events of Jesus' life from his birth, life, death,
resurrection and ascension enable us to go to the Father
and be united in him. May we continue to focus on our
goal!
Next weekend is Pentecost Sunday

Family
As summer approaches and we anticipate more time together, let us remember the Holy Family and try to emulate their ac-tions of love and understanding with our own family. A special prayer for the Holy Family and your family will be conducted during each Mass this weekend and we will pass out prayer cards before each Mass. Please join us for this Mass focused on the family. Here is a list of ideas on how to take the Lord and the Holy Family on vacation with you:
Find a Catholic church in your vacation area and attend weekend Mass. An easy way is to call a National Registry of churches at (800) Mass-Times—(800) 627-7846. Provide service at work camps. Intentionally pray for your family before they travel and make sure to pack a bible and read it on vacation. As a family read a book on the Holy Family – Jesus, Mary, and/or Joseph and then discuss it as a family. Take one of the K of C Prayer Cards and read it as a family daily. Listen to the Rosary or say the Rosary as a family while in the car on long drives, the Rosary can be found on tapes or CD’s. Plan trips or side trip to Holy sites like the National Basilica, St John Paul II Shrine in Washington DC, or Cathedrals in the areas your family is visiting.
Justice and Peace Food Pantry item this week: Pancake Syrup. Thank You!
THE YARD SALE IS COMING!!!! Need to declutter? Doing your spring cleaning? Getting ready to move? The annual St Mark Yard Sale is Saturday, June 29th from 8am-1pm and we will begin accepting donations June 10th. Unfortunately, we are NOT able to accept tires, televisions, mattresses, large appliances, heavy
furniture or mirrors. When donating gently used clothing, please ensure that clothing is clean and worthy of being worn by our shoppers. Items may be dropped off in the designated area in the Great Hall. In order to properly complete sorting and pricing duties, we will NOT be able to accept donations after Wednesday, June 26th. ALL proceeds from the sale with benefit Maison Fortune Orphanage (MFO) Hinche, Haiti. More information or questions? Email Sharon Forni [email protected] or [email protected] DID YOU KNOW: MFO was founded in 2000 by Lefort Jean Louis? He started with a one room house and four orphans, then quickly expanded to 30. In 2002, as a newly formed Foundation, we purchased the property on Rue de Veronique, which formed the property we now refer to as the Boys Campus. In 2004, MFO was able to expand rapidly and in 2005 the orphanage grew to include its own primary school serving both residents and children from the community. In 2008, our first 20 girls took up residence and today they occupy the Girls Campus in the Village Creole section of Hinche. Jean Louis remains on staff as Founder and MFO Executive Director. It’s not too late!! If you have not returned your "HOPE4LIFE" baby bottle, we can still accept them. Please return to the basket at the Justice & Peace table by June 9th! Baby Shower: We are still collecting baby items/diapers (sizes Newborn to 3months) to benefit “Newborns in Need”. All new baby clothing items accepted. Please bring in donated items to the play pen located in Great Hall next to bulletin board by June 9th. A HUGE Thank you to all who donated items for the Eastern Shore Migrant Worker Ministry. The Ministry is currently planning activities and events for the 2019 Season. Please watch the bulletin for upcoming dates to volunteer and assist in this important ministry. June is Diocesan Refugee Awareness Month: Refugees are individuals who have fled their countries of origin and who meet the United Nations’ criteria of having a ‘well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.’” Jesus' early years were spent as a refugee with Mary and Joseph in Egypt, following the campaign of persecution from King Herod. Refugees, therefore are close to our Lord's heart. For more information and resources visit:
