BAPTISM Baptisms are celebrated on the second & fourth Sundays of each month
at 1:30PM. Please call the Rectory to schedule a Baptism celebration and
to arrange for an initial interview and a Baptism preparation meeting for
parents. Baptisms will take place on the second & fourth Sundays, at
1:30PM.
MARRIAGE Marriages are celebrated on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at
prearranged times. Please call the rectory at least six months in advance
of an intended date in order to make an appointment to complete the
preliminary arrangements, set a date for the wedding, and register for
the required marriage preparation program.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Anointing of the Sick is available every Saturday after the 8:30AM
Mass especially for parishioners who have medical procedures
scheduled for the coming week.

TAIZE PRAYER: Join us for Taize Prayer
Around The Cross on Friday, February 26th at
8:00PM in the Church. Prayer around the Cross
is a way of expressing an invisible communion
not only with Jesus, but with all who love Him
and know what it is to suffer with Him and
know the power of His resurrection. The Cross
is laid down surrounded by candles. The prayer
begins with meditative chants, a reading from
Scripture, and some silence. Then while the
meditative singing continues, those who wish
come up to the Cross to pray, silently entrusting
their hopes, dreams, challenges, and burdens to
Him. All are invited to this opportunity for ex‐
periencing God.
CALLING ALL “CHURCH MICE”!
A “Church Mouse” helps by putting
Missalettes back in the racks, raising
the kneelers, straightening the chairs
in the Skelly Room, etc. They
“scurry” around after Mass to quickly put
things in order. (Children might be especially
good at this.) You can just take these tasks
upon yourself and begin anytime. Thank you!
K of C BUS TRIP: The Knights of Columbus
has organized a Bus Trip on Wednesday, March
2nd. It will be to the Yonkers Casino, the coin
package to be determined. There will be raffles,
and a 50/50. The buses will leave from the
Village Parking Lot at the Amityville Library at
9:00AM sharp! Bring along a friend. Price is $27

AROUND THE PARISH
LENTEN FAST & ABSTINENCE: All
Catholics who have reached their fourteenth
year are bound to abstain entirely from meat on
all the Fridays of Lent. All Catholics between
the ages of eighteen and fifty‐nine inclusive are
also bound to observe the law of fast on Good
Friday. This means limiting oneself to a single
full meal & avoiding food between meals. Two
other lighter meals, which together do not equal
a full meal, may be taken during the day.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Stations of the
Cross will be held in the Church every
Thursday at 2:00PM and every Friday at 7:30PM
during Lent. All are encouraged to take part in
this solemn Lenten practice.
OPERATION RICE BOWL: This week, Catho‐
lic Relief Services Rice Bowl takes us to Laos,
where Hongkham is using her love of cooking
to provide for her family ‐ and feed an entire
school. How do we use our passions and gifts
for the betterment of those we meet? Rice Bowls
should be returned at Mass on the Fifth Sunday
of Lent– March 13th.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: Our Lady of
Fatima will be hosting a testimonial dinner in
honor of Henry C. Tomlinson on Sunday,
February 28th at the American Legion Post in
Lindenhurst from 2:00PM to 6:00PM. There will
be a buffet dinner, open bar, cake and coffee.

Quo Vadis, Domine
Cross the Tiber River on the Vittorio Emanuale Bridge. Make a left onto the Via della Conciliazione.
Look straight ahead and you will be standing in front of Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. It is one of
the most startling sights to see when you turn that corner for the first time. I will always remember
it. Walk towards the Vatican and you will find yourself within Saint Peter’s Square and standing be‐
tween two beautiful fountains. You will be surrounded by the perfectly constructed colonnades of
Bernini. Bernini intended those colonnades to be the “arms of Mother Church” surrounding her chil‐
dren. It is quite effective when you look at it from above. In the center of all of this is the Obelisk of
Caligula. The mad emperor Caligula brought the obelisk to Rome from Egypt just after the crucifix‐
ion of Jesus. It stood within the Circus Maximus during the Christian persecutions begun by Em‐
peror Nero, and later transported in the 16th century to the present site at the Vatican. So large, it
took an entire year to move it.
In the summer of 64 AD there was a devastating fire in the city of Rome. The emperor Nero—
another madman— scapegoated the Christians, and thus began the great persecution of the Chris‐
tians, which would continue for another 249 years. It was during this first year of the Roman perse‐
cution of the Christians that the Christians were gathered in Rome under the leadership of a man
named Peter. Peter had already denied Our Lord three times, 30 years ago in the courtyard, but he
was to redeem himself when the Risen Christ later appeared to him. Now 30 years after Jesus’ death
and resurrection Peter was getting very nervous with the persecution of the Christians. There is the
story from an apocryphal writing that says Peter fled Rome for fear of being put to death. The shep‐
herd left his flock and ran. While on the road leaving Rome, Peter passes a man going into the city of
Rome. Peter recognizes the man— it is the Lord. Peter had not seen Jesus in three decades. Peter falls
at Jesus’ feet and asks “Quo Vadis Domine?” “Where are you going, Lord?” To which Jesus re‐
sponds: “I am going to Rome to be crucified again. You, Simon, have abandoned my
sheep.” (Whenever Peter is in trouble, Jesus calls him “Simon.”) With this, Peter courageously turns
around and returns to Rome where he will be crucified upside down. Tradition tells us that the last
thing St. Peter saw was the obelisk that now stands in the middle of Saint Peter’s Square.

Our kick off to the 2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal has begun. This year’s CMA
theme, One Faith, Family, Community, gives us the opportunity to support those
most in need in our Church Family and Community.
At all of our masses this weekend, the 2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal video will be
shown. You will get a great sense of the many people the CMA serves throughout our
Long Island Community. You will see and hear their stories, and see what CMA
means to: the family served in an outreach program, the newly ordained priest,
students in campus ministry, sacramental preparation for our children and the fund‐
ing for Catholic Charities’ outstanding programs.
When you make a pledge, please take a moment to think about how you can “Open
the Door of Mercy” to those in need and all who benefit from the Catholic Ministries
Appeal. They are the hungry and poor, senior citizens in need, those with
developmental disabilities, men studying for the priesthood, diaconate candidates,
young people receiving the Sacraments and hospital patients.
Last year, our share was approximately $15,000 and the rebate has gone back to our
general fund to keep our building running smoothly and our grounds beautiful. I
thank you for your support.
In consideration of the Year of Mercy, perhaps we can increase our participation to the
2016 Appeal. Please remember, no gift is too small and all gifts make a difference in
someone’s life!

STEWARDSHIP – A Way of Life “Believing With Joy”
SOME STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS: Peter, James, and John wanted to build a “booth” for Jesus
and just stay on the mountain where His transfiguration took place. But the Son of God, the Chosen
One, knew that He must instead keep moving toward His Crucifixion. We, too, must rise from wor‐
ship and do what we can to hasten the coming of the Kingdom.
God has given us everything, and the Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving can pro‐
vide a sobering scorecard of our use of those gifts – and new insights about how to use them in the
future. Prayer provides a way to give back to God some share of the time that we’ve been given. It is
also a very powerful way to make ourselves available to God in order to see more clearly the ways
He is calling us to use the many other gifts with which He has blessed us. We are called to
prayerfully reflect upon the many ways God has gifted us and to thank God for these gifts. In last
week’s Gospel we heard how Jesus was tempted in the desert by the devil. We all get tempted and
that is why prayer is so important – helping us to resist temptations and live our lives according to
the way Jesus wants us to live.
LIVING STEWARDSHIP: We are grateful for all stewards in our parish who love actively. How?
By serving in a food pantry, hospital, assisted living or nursing home facility, etc.
CELEBRATING OUR GIFTEDNESS: We celebrate the gifts of time, coordinating, and service
shared with us by our CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL COMMITTEE. They make phone calls
and assist in this endeavor that raises money for the operations of the Diocese and Catholic Chari‐

“I have recently returned from my second St. Martin of Tours Women’s Retreat weekend and I am planning
to make it a yearly event whenever possible. I went by myself yet from the first night, I was warmly welcomed

is no pressure to participate but I found myself wanting to be a part of everything: sharing our “sacred
