Bishop calls for month long prayer campaign to end abortion Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., has set out a plan for prayer and advocacy throughout January in response to the anniversary of the legalization of abortion in the United States and the growing concern for the sanctity of the child in the womb. Through private prayer and virtual Masses, the faithful are asked to support the campaign aimed at ending the scourge of abortion. ROSARY FOR LIFE :The Bishop has asked us to pray a Rosary for life throughout the month of January.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Peace be with you!

This week we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord. Originally, this was the Feast of Purification of Mary. In ancient Israel, the mother is considered unclean after giving birth to a first-born male child. Mosaic Law requires the mothers 40 days after giving birth to present herself to the temple and offer sacrifices as ritual cleansing. Over some liturgical changes in different churches, from Jerusalem to Greece, this feast has been called the Presentation of the Lord. The candles, was added from a tradition in Jerusalem, where Christians celebrate this feast with procession of candles. Thus this has also been called, Candlemas or the Mass of Candles.

We also celebrate the Feast of St. Blaise, famous for miraculous healing. It is on this feast that we have our throats blessed. It is believed that this holy Bishop, cured and saved the life of a dying child choked by a fish bone. I believe in this COVID time it would help us to ask for His intercession that He will cure the world from the COVID virus and especially the virus of sin –As St. Blaise is also called the “Physician of Souls”.

As I promised, the financial report is printed here on the back page of the bulletin.

Let us now prepare for Lent. It’s here!!!!

Stay safe and healthy!

I’m praying for you with love,

Father Sheldon

Here’s One Positive Encouragement

Written by a fellow parishioner

What is it that we believe we have as Catholics yet may have lost or are losing it slowly and not even realizing that the loss is occurring.? I believe most religious have it, because it was part of the vows or the requirements of their religious order as one of their commitments and have a much lesser chance of losing it than we laymen. Now what is it that we can possibly be losing? Our faith in God, the prac ce of going to mass, helping others, dona ng to our parish and other worthy organiza ons? No, we do the above and a lot more as Catholics. We work hard at our jobs, treat our families, friends, and strangers with courtesy and love. We spend me praying. Then what is it as Catholics we may be losing? We probably all realize the more me we spend on something the be er we are in that subject for that endeavor, so let us look at the me we spend on our major daily ac vi es. We spend me sleeping, ea ng, working, me with family and friends, engage in social ac vi es, exercise, praying and sports, etc. How many hours a day do you spend at each of these? Be honest. Now what is it as Catholics may we be losing without realizing it? Could the loss be our SPIRITUALITY (the quality of being concerned with the human spirit, our soul as opposed to the material or physical things in our life). DID we even consider SPIRITUALITY in our list above? Even think about our God given gi of our SOUL and how we are preparing it for its return reunion with God? I am sure our religious brothers and sisters make it their prime concern. There is HOPE for we as Catholics to not lose our spirituality if we realize it is our reason for being .
