ST MARY'S ONLINE GIVINGDear Saint Mary's Parishioners,In these extraordinary times we are all going to face additional difficulties financially. I would ask if at all possible that you continue your support of the church financially by means of E giving. If you do not already have an account for electronic giving, please visit our parish website at www.stmarysalton.com where you may establish your own account.
Thank you, and may God reward your generosity.
My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,Everyone is experiencing strains of all kinds from the virus, and our life of prayer to help us all through has never been more necessary. One fruitful awareness I am growing in because of the pandemic, is the call the Lord is making to us to turn more and more to him, to reorder our lives and put him entirely first. Family prayer is especially important here. In fact, everyone reading this can say to each other: "Fr Jeremy is asking us to pray the Rosary together, let's give it a try." In the midst of our trials and difficulties there are signs of God's presence and guidance among us. Supernatural joy is particularly a revelation of his presence in our lives. Fr Paul Kallal OMV was ordained a priest here at St Mary's last Saturday by Bishop Carl Kemme, Bishop of Wichita, KS (See photos). The Ordination Mass was overwhelmingly graced and beautiful and Fr Paul's first Mass, at which he himself preached, was blessed and very moving. Something special about the weekend was the presence of so many Oblates of the Virgin Mary - there were 24 between the priests, brothers and seminarians! They were days of great joy for our OMV Community, our parish and the Church! If you see Fr Paul in the next few days, be sure to ask him for his first priestly blessing! Please pray for vocations so that more of our parishioners will hear the call of Christ to follow him!Our Parish School opened on Thursday! I could not possibly tell you how much thought, planning, discussion, preparation and concern went into making the first day of school a reality. Our Principal, Alex Pulido and Dean of Students, Beth Hogg along with our School Staff and Reopening Committee Members are to be commended for all they have done and are doing in this regard. I am very proud of what these Folks have accomplished for our children. It was a joy to see God at work in bringing our school children together in peace to pursue their discipleship of Jesus, their Christian intellectual and human formation here at St Mary's! Our Lady of the Rivers, pray for us!OKTOBERFEST UPDATE: This past week, after consultation and much deliberation, we've cancelled the live, in-person Oktoberfest this year. It's a decision we didn't make lightly. We were hoping to have some hybrid version of Oktoberfest - a mix of online and in person events for the sake of the blessing that it has been to the parish and local community these last nearly 15 years. But in compliance with public health recommendations and to protect our people, we will have an entirely online virtual Oktoberfest which will include auction, basket raffle and sweepstakes. We are also seeking sponsorship donations. Oktoberfest is a blessing to our parish in that it draws the community together as a family, and we can all look forward to that next year - being together at OFest 2021. But in the meanwhile, I ask you to be as generous as you can be in terms of donations for auction, basket raffle, the selling of the sweepstakes tickets and sponsorships. Our Sunday Mass attendance is still at about 40% of our pre-Covid Mass attendance and while many have switched to online tithing, the parish finances are struggling with a nearly 20% drop. Our School has about 45 less students as this year begins and this means a significant drop in tuition revenue. Combine this with additional Covid expenses for the school, and we need all the help we can get. Please do your best therefore to support the online Oktoberfest and stay tuned for more information in the bulletin and your parish email and facebook and elsewhere about how you can volunteer and help. Again, we're looking for auction items, baskets raffle, purchase and sales of sweepstakes tickets and sponsorships. St Mary's needs your help more than ever!I am sure the Good Lord will see us through, and so we turn to him in confidence and love! Lord, have mercy on us!
Our Lady of the Rivers, pray for us!- Fr Jeremy OMV

THE TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Focus: Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.We are reminded in the reading from Romans that God is the ultimate authority. It is God who gives all, who creates all, and for whom all exists. Let us, then, through prayer and deeds, humbly and confidently acknowledge Jesus as the Son of the Living God.The Lord tells Shebna, the scribe, I will thrust you from your office and pull you down from your station and replace you with the honorable Eliakim. In the second reading, Paul writes to the Romans about the inscrutable judgments and unsearchable ways of God: For from him and through him and for him are all things. In the Gospel, Peter answers Jesus’ question, saying, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus blesses Peter and proclaims him as the rock upon whom he will build his Church.
PART ONE - THE PROFESSION OF FAITHSECTION ONE - "I BELIEVE" - "WE BELIEVE"Man’s Response To God / I Believe – We Believe
“Only One Faith”185. Whoever says "I believe" says "I pledge myself to what we believe." Communion in faith needs a common language of faith, normative for all and uniting all in the same confession of faith.

ILLINOIS STATE TROOPER NICHOLAS HOPKINS On this sad anniversary, we are grateful for all the support and prayers, received and still coming in. We are a very close family and the murder of our nephew Nicholas John brought great sorrow, but in the wash of our tears, we know he is still with us in spirit. He lived his life to the fullest without regret and with
compassion, love, and laughter for all he met. Rest in Peace, Trooper Hopkins – Aunt Margaret and Uncle John.

THE R.C.I.A. JOURNEY OF FAITH In celebrating this month Our Lady’s final journey to God in her glorious Assumption, let us ask her motherly intercession to draw souls to the Sacred Heart of her Son. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a journey too – of conversion to God and what He intends for us. RCIA is the process by which adult persons who were never baptized, or were baptized in another Christian tradition, or baptized Catholic but never received Confirmation or First Eucharist, become fully initiated members of the Church, a people on pilgrimage to our Heavenly Father.
Please leave your name and phone number with our parish office, write a note (or fill out info below) and drop in the collection basket, or contact us through our email address: [email protected], and you will be contacted soon with more information.
