GRACE AND ETERNAL LIFE
Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven’t we all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked
people? Indeed, haven’t we all gotten a little stiff-necked ourselves at times? Complaining . . . impatient . . . quick
to anger. How lucky for Moses—how lucky for all of us—that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Ac-
cordingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God’s
forgiveness and grace.
Encouraging us to live together in peace—and in God’s favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace, joyfully invoking Christ’s grace on us along with God’s love and the Holy Spirit’s. “Rejoice,” he says. And when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us the gladdest words of all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus.

Moisés es un hombre como nosotros, ¿acaso no hemos tratado también con cabezas duras? De hecho, ¿acaso no hemos sido nosotros mismos los cabezas duras? Quejum-brosos. . . impacientes. . . rápidos para enojarnos. ¡Qué suerte la de Moisés y qué suerte la nuestra que Dios es precisamen-te lo opuesto! Y ni siquiera tenemos que adivinarlo. El Señor nos lo dice directamente. Y en concordancia, Moisés hace lo que todos necesitamos hacer. Pese a tener las tablas en las
manos, se postra y pide el perdón y la gracia de Dios.
Alentándonos a vivir juntos en paz y con el favor de Dios, el apóstol Pablo sabe de esta gracia, e invoca con
alegría la gracia del amor de Dios y del Espíritu Santo sobre nosotros. “Estén alegres”, dice. Y cuando se trata de alegrar-nos, Juan nos ofrece las palabras más regocijantes: la seguri-
dad de la vida eterna en Jesús.

With Immaculate Mary’s “Ave Maria” for its refrain, Andy Williams’ “Village of Saint Bernadette” peaked at #7 on Billboard’s Top 40 at Christmas 1959, airing on radio stations all
over America. Imagine! April 16 marks the feast of Bernardette Soubirous, the teenager who, combing a refuse heap for firewood, saw a
“beautiful lady” who identified herself in words Bernadette faithfully reported to the bishop,
though she did not understand their meaning: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Relentlessly
interrogated, she never wavered in her story or sweetness. Chronically ill all her life and dead at thirty-five, Bernadette left behind the shrine at
Lourdes where healing waters still flow from the spring that her “beautiful lady” pointed out to
her.
San Efrén (c. 306-373) 9 de junio
Nació en la actual Turquía, hijo de un sacer-dote pagano y de madre cristiana. Desde muy pequeño
mostró un temperamento explosivo, mismo que aprendió a controlar. Siendo muy joven se hizo
bautizar y posteriormente fue ordenado diácono. Su ministerio estuvo dedicado a la enseñanza de la fe,
pues era un gran maestro. Su obispo, notando sus cual-idades cristianas y humanas, quiso ordenarlo sacer-
dote, pero Efrén se opuso pues consideraba el sacerdo-cio como algo indigno para él. Como diácono y maes-
tro difundió la enseñanza cristiana con cualidades extraordinarias de escritor, haciendo uso de la poesía, los cantos religiosos o bien, parodiando la letra de los cantos populares de su tiempo para no sólo rebatir las
herejías cristianas, sino también, para propagar las enseñanzas de Cristo. La historia lo distingue con el
mote de “La cítara del Espíritu Santo”. Con su poesía fue fundador de una escuela teológica. Pese a que no
hablaba el griego, fue audaz en su idioma, escribiendo poemas dedicados a María, Madre de Dios. Sus escri-tos y misticismo hicieron de él uno de los Doctores de
la Iglesia.

Holy Trinity: My God is not far
Is my God a God far from man, or is my humanity a humanity far from God?
Celebrating the solemnity of the Holy Trinity today is celebrating the true God that Jesus has revealed to us, it is celebrating the deepest and most important mystery of our faith. And that is why it is no more asking this question:
What did God believe in? Do I believe in the God of the Gospel, in God-Love, or do I believe in the god of deism: cold, indifferent, insensitive, infi-nitely distant and alien? How will a lonely and sufficient God love? How will you want to worry about me? How can I care? How to believe in God-love, when I hardly look at him, I speak to him, I listen to him, I make room for him in my life, in my problems, in my time, in my opinions, in my actions, and above all in my desires and longings , last or daily, con-scious or unconscious? Who is far from whom? Is my God a God far from man, or is my humanity a humanity far from God?
My God is not far. My God is here, always, next to me, in me, in the deep-est part of me. My God is my Father, who not only sustains all creation, but also sustains me. Only He knows the number of my hair. Only He knows the convoluted world of my interiors. Only He can value my quali-ties, or see my talents grow, or grieve for my sins, or excuse my mistakes.
My God is the Son of God, divine Model of my humanity, eternal mirror where to find the truth of my face, unique Word before which all my words dissolve, He is my Lord, my friend, my brother, the inseparable "You Who accompanies me, instructs me, gives me his life, and dies for me. He is the one who calls me and takes me, the Risen One who resur-rects me.
It is my God the Holy Spirit, He nests in my heart, and I would like to burn him. He runs through my veins, and enlightens my mind, and I would like to come more through my groggy ears and through my pagan and worldly thoughts.
It is my God the Trinity, He is my God Communion, Family. Infinite love, infinite Unity between Father, Son, and Spirit. He is my Triune God, the model of my humanity, the longing of my world and its history, the secret of my way of being, the unique referent of my relationship with my broth-er men.
God is my authentic home, where I want to live forever. With Him, with each one of Them, I really am. This my God, is your God, is the only God. It is the best treasure I have, and without Him, nothing in life has value.

Santísima Trinidad: Mi Dios no esta lejos
¿Es mi Dios un Dios lejano del hombre, o es mi humanidad una humanidad alejada de Dios?
Celebrar hoy solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad es celebrar al Dios verdadero que Jesús nos ha revelado, es celebrar el misterio más profundo y más im-portante de nuestra fe. Y por eso no viene más hacerse esta pregunta:
¿En que Dios creo? ¿Creo en el Dios del Evangelio, en Dios-Amor, o creo en el dios del deísmo: frío, indiferente, insensible, infinitamente lejano y ajeno? ¿Cómo amará un Dios solitario y suficiente? ¿Cómo querrá preocuparse de mí? ¿Cómo puedo yo importarle? ¿Cómo creer en Dios-amor, cuando apenas le miro, le hablo, le escucho, le hago hueco en mi vida, en mis problemas, en mi tiempo, en mis opiniones, en mis actos, y sobre todo en mis deseos y anhelos, últimos o co-tidianos, conscientes o inconscientes?¿Quién esta lejos de quién? ¿Es mi Dios un Dios lejano del hombre, o es mi humanidad una humanidad alejada de Dios?
Mi Dios no esta lejos. Mi Dios esta aquí, siempre, junto a mi, en mi, en lo más profundo de mi. Mi Dios es mi Padre, que no sólo sustenta toda la creación, si no que también me sustenta a mi. Sólo Él conoce el número de mis cabellos. Sólo Él conoce el enrevesado mundo de mis interioridades. Sólo Él puede valorar mis cualidades, o ver crecer mis talentos, o dolerse por mis pecados, o disculpar mis errores.
Es mi Dios el Hijo de Dios, Modelo divino de mi humanidad, eterno espejo donde encontrar la verdad de mi rostro, Palabra única ante la que toda palabra mía se disuelve, El es mi Señor, mi amigo, mi hermano, el inseparable “Tu” que me acompaña, me instruye, me entrega su vida, y muere por mi. El es quien me lla-ma y me lleva, el Resucitado que me resucita.
Es mi Dios el Espíritu Santo, El anida en mi corazón, y querría abrasarlo. El cor-re por mis venas, e ilumina mi mente, y querría venir más por mis oídos atolondrados y por mis pensamientos paganos y mundanos.
Es mi Dios la Trinidad, Es mi Dios Comunión, Familia. Amor infinito, Unidad in-finita entre Padre, Hijo, y Espíritu. Es mi Dios uno y trino, el modelo de mi hu-manidad, el anhelo de mi mundo y de su historia, el secreto de mi manera de ser, el referente único de mi relación con mis hermanos los hombres.
Es Dios mi autentico hogar, donde quiero vivir eternamente. Con El, con cada uno de Ellos, yo soy de verdad. Este mi Dios, es tu Dios, es el único Dios. Es el mejor tesoro que tengo, y sin Él, nada en la vida tienen valor.
