TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Most Chris ans today receive a bunch of palm fronds, olive branches, pussy willow, or for-sythia (a rela ve of the olive) to carry in procession and to bear home in blessing. Some even offer sprigs of palm or other branches as a gesture of peace to those they have offended. The desire is to make a clean sweep of your spiritual house before the Easter feast. Accep ng the branch is a token of the bearer's willingness to journey with the Church through a grateful remem-brance of Jesus Christ's passion, death, and life-giving resurrec on. Tradi onally, the plants associated with today's feast are planted in cemeteries as a sign of Christ's victory over death and the promise of new life. The joy of this day's opening procession soon gives way to a solemn reading of the Passion, this year according to Ma hew. The ritual is meant not only to strengthen us to hear this account, but to s r us up to accompany the Church on this journey through Holy Week. It also prepares us for next Sunday's joyful renewal of our bap smal vows.

Information about our Capital Campaign
This weekend Capital Campaign packets are being made available to our parish-
ioners. Please review the material in yours and prayerfully consider what sacri-
fice you can make for the future of our parish.
The Capital Campaign & the Building Fund are two separate, distinct funds. The
Capital Campaign is a pledge for the next 3 to 5 years specifically to build our building. The pledge total
counts as collateral for a loan. The Building Fund is a restricted account that will be used to furnish our build-
ing with what we need inside—Chairs, tables, plates, pots, pans, etc. Currently we need total participation in
the Capital Campaign in order to meet our goal of $1.5 million, so we can obtain a loan to build. At this point,
the Capital Campaign is the more important of the two.
If you are new to the parish or find you do not have a packet, you may participate by picking up a blank pack-
et at the Greeters Table. Whether you are new or not, we ask that you pray about an amount that you can
give sacrificially, fill out the pledge card, drop it in the collection basket or mail it to the Parish Office or drop
it off at the Parish Office. Together we can make our building happen!

THE ATTITUDE OF CHRIST JESUS
The Lenten cycle brings
us to this "mixed" Sunday
of palm branches and
painful suffering. Our lit-
urgy opens by recalling
Jesus' triumphant entry
along the main road into
Jerusalem, then moves
quickly to the back streets of betrayal and humilia-
tion, the courtyards of torture and abandonment,
the hill of execution.
Isaiah's strange and gripping "Song of the Servant
of God" was to become the song of Jesus. It is the
song of one who strides forward consistently in the
face of criticism, even scorn: "I have not rebelled,
have not turned back." It is to become our song, as
faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
How are we to react when we hear the account of
the passion and death of the Lord? Paul tells us
that our attitude must be Christ's, who "emptied
himself, taking the form of a slave." We pray that
we may absorb the attitude of Christ, and face life
squarely in its triumph and its pain.
