Dear Friends in Christ,
This weekend we celebrate with and thank God for Fr. Jim McKitrick who has served the Lord for 60 years in the priesthood. We wish him many more years in good health as he serves the Lord.
Fr. Jim was born in Libertyville, attended Quigley High School and DePaul University in Chicago, St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein and Mount St. Mary of the West in Norwood, Ohio (earning a doctor of ministry degree in 1984).
He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Loras T. Lane on May 31, 1958 at St. Mary Church in McHenry. His service in the Rockford Diocese includes:
∗ Chaplain at St. Mary Hospital in DeKalb and assistant director at the Catholic Study Center there.
∗ 6 months as parochial vicar at St. James Parish in Rockford ∗ Parochial Vicar at St. Mary Parish in Sycamore - June 1959-June1962 ∗ Returned to DeKalb, serving as chaplain at St. Mary Hospital and member of the Newman
Center Faculty until 1970. ∗ Parochial Vicar at Christ the Teacher University Parish in DeKalb - December 1966-July 1970 ∗ Pastor at St. Mary Parish in Maple Park - 1970-1972; St. Catherine of Genoa in Genoa - 1972
-1975; St. Thomas More Parish in Elgin - 1975-1979 ∗ Parochial Vicar - St. Bernadette Parish in Rockford - 1979-1980 ∗ Personnel Director for the Permanent Diaconate and Director of Clergy Continuing Education
– 1979 to July 1985 ∗ Co-Pastor of St Thomas the Apostle Parish in Crystal Lake – February to October 1980 ∗ Director of the Office of Ministry to Priests from October 1982 to July 1985. ∗ Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas the Apostle from March 1983 to July 1986 ∗ Pastor of St. Patrick from July 1986 to his retirement on October 1, 2000.
While at St. Patrick, Fr. McKitrick oversaw an extensive remodeling project that was undertaken in anticipation of the 150th jubilee year of the parish. The completed church had refinished pews, a new altar, cleaned stained glass win-dows and additional seating space. While pastor, Fr. McKitrick also recorded an informative video about the history and uniqueness of St. Patrick’s Stained Glass Windows.
After retiring in September 2000, he assisted at St. Benedict in Fontana, WI for a number of years.
In 2014, Fr. McKitrick offered his assistance to St. Patrick and continues to do so today. He was warmly welcomed back by those parishioners who were here during his time as pastor. He and his faithful friend Finnegan are now loved by all parishioners from young to old.
Happy Anniversary and may God bless you, Good and Faithful Servant.
In Christ,
Fr. Godwin

McHenry Township - Sunday Bus Service?
In order to meet the needs of McHenry Township residents without personal means of transportation the township is considering expanding its bus service to Sunday. They are asking for feedback so that they can gauge how much in-terest there would be in using this service on a day when people attend church services. If you and/or a neighbor or relative would make use of this service, please contact McHenry Township Supervisor Craig Adams directly at [email protected] or 815-385-5605 or call the parish office at 815-385-0025.
Vocation Corner: Say “Yes” and don’t be afraid to Commit!
One issue that I see present in the lives of many teenag-ers today (although we’re all susceptible!) is the difficulty to say yes and to commit to something. For example, one of them might receive an invitation to go to a party on a Friday night about a week away, and even though they are 100% open and available on that evening, they say “Maybe” rather than saying yes. The reason why is be-cause they want to keep their options open in case a bet-ter offer comes along! This happens all the time, and again I think this sometimes happens to all of us. We can see a good opportunity arise, but we’re hesitant to embrace it because we’d rather do something great! I think that the biggest place where this plagues individuals comes when trying to discern one’s vocation especially the question of what God might be calling one to dedicate their entire life to! Even if we feel called to something, we can be hesitant to take the leap of Faith and enter into it because we don’t know if something better might be on the horizon. What we have to trust is that if God is calling us and we sense this, that it WILL be what is best for us. So too, if we assess things by our standards, chances are that we’ll think that something else will fulfill us more than what God is calling us to, because more often than not the value of our voca-tion and the difference that we can make in the world will not be immediately apparent. So if God calls say YES and prepare yourself for the time of your life!

Pastoral Council: The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body to the Pastor. Pope Paul VI stated that the pastoral council is “to examine and consider all that relates to pastoral work and to offer practical conclusions on these matters, so that the life and activity of the people of God be brought into great-er conformity with the Gospel.
Finance Council: Every parish, by Canon Law, is required to have a finance council which is given the task of advising the Pastor on fiscal matters regarding the parish.
Both of these councils have openings as some of the cur-rent members have reached the end of their term of ser-vice. If you are interested in serving on one of the councils or have a recommendation of someone to fill an open slot, please contact Megan Doherty, Administrative Assistant at: [email protected] or via phone at 815-385-0025
