Dear Friends in Christ, ThankYou! I’m happy to announce that that we have been able to pay off our parish debt! Because of your support and generosity, we have been able to build a new school, parish office building, and rectory at the Crane Road campus. In addition, we have been able to renovate and restore the downtown church and the Fr. Carse Center. I would like to thank Msgr. Joe Linster and the many parish leaders and volunteers who planned and implemented the Crane Road projects for the well being and growth of the parish. I am also grateful to everyone who helped with the fundraising and provided support to make all of this happen at both campuses. We are blessed with a very generous parish and it is a blessing for me to serve as your pastor. Thank you! In last weekend’s bulletin I wrote that we would be discontinuing the yellow debt reduction envelope that was part of the monthly envelope packet. We have replaced that with a “maintenance fund” envelope that will help us maintain the many buildings we have on both campuses. Our churches and our buildings exist for the purpose of ministry, worship, and prayer. Our desire is to be good stewards of the resources that we have been blessed with so that the mission of the Church and our parish can be served and will flourish.
Msgr.Knox’sSabbaticalProgramI will be in Rome for an academic sabbatical from January 20 until April 8. I will be participating in the Institute of Continuing Theological Education (ICTE). Basically it’s an ongoing formation/renewal program that helps one become a better priest and leader. We are allowed to take one of these after 15 years of service. I have never taken one of these, so after 30 years of priestly service I thought it was time! I will be back in time to celebrate Holy Week and Easter with the parish. Fr. Gonnella and Fr. Sarmiento will be leading the parish while I’m away for a few months. A retired priest in our diocese, Fr. Perfecto Vasquez, will be helping out while I’m on sabbatical. I’ll remember all of you in my daily prayers when I am away. Please lift some up for me too! In Christ, Msgr. Steve Knox

Bishop Robert Barron’s newest study program
T H E M A S S
This Winter we have an excellent new spiritual enrichment program recently produced by Bishop Robert Barron.
This new series is simply entitled: “The Mass: Encountering Heaven on Earth.” This new series begins on Tuesday, February 12, 2019
This new 6 session program on the Mass will be facilitated by Fr. Gonnella, Fr. Sarmiento and Seminarian Nick Sentovich. We will have the DVD presentation by Bishop Barron, some discussion, and then some “walk through the Mass” teaching by our facilitators. The program has an excellent study guide to help guide our journey together.
The morning gathering will be at the Downtown Church from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and in the evening at Crane Road from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Here is the focus of each session: Tuesday, February 12 — “A Privileged Encounter” Tuesday, March 5 — “Responding to God” Tuesday, February 19 — “Called Out of the World” Tuesday, March 12—“Preparing for Sacrifice” Tuesday, February 26 — “God Speaks Our Story” Tuesday, March 19 — “The Real Presence Creates Communion”
Walk through the Liturgy with Bishop Barron and you’ll be transformed through insights on this most privileged and intimate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. See how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm, how it resonates with a call from God and a response from his people, the Church and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist. The Mass will help you understand how to fully, consciously, and actively participate in the source and summit of Christian life.
Please register as soon as possible! Cost for the materials will be $20. Questions? Please contact, Jenny at 630-338-8013 or e-mail [email protected]. To Register please fill out the form below and drop it
in the collection basket in an envelope marked “The Mass”, along with your cash or check for $20, payable to “St. Patrick Church” for materials, or drop it off at the parish office between 8 a.m. & 4 p.m.

Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. “Growing Strong in Broken Places”
In Dempsey Hall on the Crane Road Campus
Every now and then it is good to slow down and allow the Lord to renew our faith lives. All women of the parish and their friends are invited to participate in this “retreat” day to make connections between faith and everyday life through some talks and discussion. You will also be able to meet some of your fellow parishioners in a relaxed atmosphere. Along with Msgr. Knox, our speakers are all parishioners who will be sharing some of the wisdom they have gained on life’s journey. We also have a nice lunch planned. Please register as soon as possible [by January 11] and invite family and friends to join you!
The schedule for the day is as follows (brief discussion time after talks): 9:00 a.m. Gathering for Opening Prayer with Msgr. Steve, coffee and light breakfast 9:30 a.m. “The Faith Journey: Important Life Lessons I Have Learned Along the Way” — Angelina Beaudion This talk will help us reflect on our own faith journey. God has much to teach us in the good times of life and during the tough times. The presence of the Lord brings us hope and strength, and helps us bring that hope to others. 10:30 a.m. Break 10:45 a.m. “The Importance of Faith, Hope and Prayer in Dealing with the Storms of Life — Diana Soltess Sooner or later, we encounter the “storms” of life. It could be sickness, relational problems, discouragement or some other struggle. From personal experience, Diana will reflect on the importance of prayer, faith in God, and community as keys for a healthy spirituality. 11:45 a.m. Lunch 12:45 p.m. “Spiritual Practices that Keep Us Strong on the Journey”— Nancy Kuhn If we’re going to be long distance runners on the journey of life, there are practices and disciplines that need to be developed to keep us strong in the Lord. Nancy will provide some practical spiritual guidance that will enhance our spiritual growth. 1:15 p.m. Quiet Time with Scripture 2:00 p.m. “What Did Jesus Teach About Forgiveness and Reconciling With Others?”— Msgr. Steve Knox Jesus had some challenging things to say when it comes to forgiveness issues and the importance of having a spirit of reconciliation. Msgr. will reflect on Jesus’ teachings and how we can more fully incorporate them into our lives. 2:45 p.m. Closing Prayer and Reflection— Msgr. Steve Knox

Anyone who saw the mountainsof gifts knew it was a season filled with bountiful giving and the many agencies that we work with were deeply grateful for your generous response to their needs.
