“The Mission of St. Patrick Parish is to encourage, form and inspire intentional disciples of Jesus Christ.”

Dear Friends in Christ, AllSaints’HolyDayandtheCommemorationofAllSoulsDuring the month of November we re lect more deeply on the afterlife and on the lives of those who have passed from this life to God. We begin the month of November with the Solemnity of All Saints. We remember in a signi icant way those who are with God in Heaven. We draw wisdom and inspiration from their lives and their witness of faith. Anyone who is with God in heaven is a saint, but we connect in a special way with the canonized saints of our tradition. The restored statues we have in the Downtown Church and at Crane Road Church point out the importance of this great company of saints. They pray for us who are still on the journey so that one day we can join them in heaven with the Lord. Like all of us, they dealt with human strug-gles and hardships, but they persevered and grew because they humbly put their trust in the Lord. We have a number of Masses scheduled for the Holy Day, so let’s join together in prayer. On Thursday, November 2nd we celebrate the Commemoration of All Souls. On this day we pray for those who have gone before us in death. We will have Masses connected with the commemoration at 7:00 a.m. at Crane Road and 8:30 a.m. at the Downtown Church and in Spanish at 6:00 p.m. We pray for those deceased loved ones so that they can be puri ied by the grace of God in order to come fully into God’s light in the Kingdom of Heaven. In the back of both churches we’ll have a Book of Remembrance so that we can write in the names of deceased loved ones. We’ll remember them in a special way at the Masses that take place in our parish during the month of November. I’m always touched by the hopefulness that is re lected in the readings and prayers that we proclaim during funeral liturgies. In the preface of the funeral Mass we pray: “Lord for your faithful people life has changed, not ended.” During the commendation prayer at the end of the liturgy we pray: “One day we shall see them again and enjoy their presence.” St. Paul said that “eye has not seen, ear has not heard, what God has ready for those who love him.” Losing loved ones is dif icult, but we can draw consolation and hope from the promises of Christ. Jesus is the Good Shepherd and he will be with us to give us strength to live the faith until we are called home at the end of our lives. Some of you are struggling with grief because of the losses you have experienced. Invite Jesus into those struggles. We know that Jesus knew the experience of grief because he wept when his good friend Lazarus died. Those who are with God want us to keep living and loving. The Lord will give you the grace you need in order to heal and to become a loving bridge to those who have experienced similar losses. May the prayers of the saints in heaven strengthen all of you on the journey of faith! In Christ, Msgr. Steve

WEEKEND UPDATE ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC SCHOOL

Where Faith and the Future

Global Read Aloud Initiative It’s an exci ng me to be a student at St. Patrick Catholic School! We are embarking on a global ini a ve tled the “The Global Read Aloud.” Students spend about six weeks reading and studying their specific books based on their grade level. During that me they are interac ng with classrooms across the globe who are reading the same books. Through the use of Smart Boards and other technology they share their thoughts, do ac vi es and projects with other schools, and build rela onships based on common goals. Our kindergarten, 1st, 4th, 5th, and junior high students are using Padlet, Twi er, and Google Classroom to connect with other students around the world. This past week Msgr. Knox came into the first grade classrooms and read the book Possum Magic about a young possum who becomes invisible. The mama possum goes to many different ci es around Australia to find the right food to make her son reappear. A er Msgr. was finished reading the story the students, led by Mrs. Sarah Pis lli our Tech-nology Integra on Specialist, were able to virtually travel from Australian state to state to learn about the different foods in the story. They were also able to virtually tour each city. A er they finished this ac vity they were able to see what their partnering classroom in Canada was doing while reading this story, answer the ques ons their friends to the North had asked, and then pose ques ons for their new classroom of friends to answer. Students in 4th and 5th grade are crea ng a virtual museum of artwork to share with their partnering classroom and crea ng Google Slide presenta ons with the help of Mrs. Carbonara our art teacher. The junior high students are reading A Long Walk to Water and working with their language arts teachers to follow the global Twi er chat and connec ng with students around the globe. Teachers and staff at St. Patrick’s are always looking for new ways to connect with students and challenge them to become global learners through the lens of faith. We are blessed with many new advancements to connect us to the world outside the four walls of our classrooms. As one first grader shared, “I didn’t know a boy in Canada would have the same ques on I did about the book. That was really neat!” Students are seeing that we all have more in common than we ever thought.
