5TH SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 28, 2018
A note from
Father Tom
The tender shoots finally are find-ing their way from the hidden pro-tection of the soil to bask in the
bright warmth of the sun. The green of new leaves and the punch of color in the first blooms of spring can give us pause and even take our breath away!
On this Fifth Sunday of Easter Jesus taps into
this connection between us and the wonder of crea-tion all around us. The vine and branches, the health that bears much fruit and branches that wither and will be pruned make sense to us. What remains is to afford the Word and Sacrament of Easter to truly give us pause, even to take our breath away! Today’s passage from Acts proclaims, “The Church was at peace and with the consolation of the Holy Spirit it grew in numbers.” Acts 9: 31
A truly awesome component of the Easter we
celebrate is revealed for us in the Sacraments of Ini-tiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The commitment of the Faith Community to an individual and her or his family and of that individual and family to the Faith Community are the punch of color and new growth by which vibrant life is not only revealed TO us but also is called forth WITHIN us :
We welcome that commitment to new life in
Christ proclaimed by and with Kelly Heney and Evan Roy in the Sacrament of Confirmation celebrated with Bishop Robert McManus this past Thursday evening at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Upton. We wel-come to the Altar of Christ those who join with us for the first time this Sunday in receiving the Sacrament of His Precious Body and Blood. May their posture of excitement and anticipation renew our own. May their and their families’ celebration of this “first” remind us to rediscover the wonder and awe in which we re-spond to Christ’s and the Church’s call: “Behold the Lamb of God : blessed are those called to the Sup-per of the Lamb!” Roman Missal, Communion Rite
Thank you to everyone who has shared in the
formation and preparation of our young parishioners on their journey of faith!

How about making a Cursillo weekend?
Cursillo or "short course in Christianity" is an uplifting and educational experience. Cursillo was brought from Spain to the United States in 1962. The week-end is facilitated by a team of laypeople and clergy who deliver organized talks and discussions. What the presenters add to the talks is the witness of their own lives, their struggles and triumphs in Christ. The weekend is full of laughter, prayer, great music, won-derful meals and so much more. Our 2018 dates are: Men’s - June 14-17; Women’s - October 25-28. All weekends will be held at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT. For addi-tional information, please contact Sue Leighton at 508-278-3155 or [email protected] OR Joan Laracy at 774-239-2474 or [email protected]. **************************************************************

Our next Loreto Gathering Day is May 6th. Since
May is Mary month, we will be honoring our Blessed Mother by also honoring our Loreto moms! We have a very special morning planned! We will end our morning together at the 11:00 Mass with the Presentation of Flowers to Mary and the Crowning.
Loreto Summer Week is fast approaching! It will be
held during the week of June 25th. Volunteers are needed in order to make this week a success. If you would like to volunteer to help that week, please contact Patty @ st.petersloreto@gmail. com or by contacting the Religious Ed Office.
Congratulations to all the children who are making their
First Communion on Sunday! Thank you to Miss
Melanie for all her hard work and dedication to preparing the children for this special day. Also thank you to the fami-lies for entrusting us with your child’s sacramental journey.

The Edge middle school youth ministry kids met this past
Tuesday to discuss the Sacrament of the Sick. The 8th grade group was “abducted” by the high school lifeteen kids and taken to West End Creamery for a night of fellowship in preparation for their step up to lifeteen. We had a great time and are looking forward to when the 8th grade kids become part of the high school group.
The lifeteen group did not meet last weekend as we did a
service project in the morning. We will meet this Sunday evening in the sacrament room. Dinner at 6pm. See you all there.
Bible and Bagels will meet on
Thursday May 3rd after the
8:00am Mass. There will be no
bible study on 4/26th
Bring a friend and learn more
about God’s word for your life.
Bagels and coffee (or tea) will
be served. We hope to see you
then!
