    HYMNS OF THE DAY

    Antiphon

O Merciful One, You came from on high, and condescended to

Your three day burial to save us from suffering. You are our Life

and our Resurrection. Glory to You.

Apolytikion for The Sunday of All Saints

Your Church, O Christ our God, clothed itself in the blood of Your

martyrs from throughout the world, as though it were a robe of

linen and purple; through them, she cries out to You, "Send down

upon Your people compassion, grant peace to Your common-

wealth, and to our souls, great mercy.

Apolytikion for Synaxis of the Twelve Holy Apostles:

O Holy Apostles, intercede with the merciful God that He grant

unto our souls forgiveness of offenses.

    Hymn of the Church

Blessed are You O Christ our God, Who as all wise the fishermen

You showed forth; By sending your Holy Spirit down upon them

and through them the universe You drew unto Your net. O lover

    of mankind glory to You.

    Kontakion

The world offers You, the author of all creation, as the first-fruits of

nature, the God-bearing martyrs. O most merciful, by their inter-

cessions, through the Theotokos, maintain Your Church in perfect

    peace.

    EPISTLE READING

    EPISTLE READER.....PRESBYTERA DANITA BOYD

    Priest: Let Us Attend

Reader: God is wonderful in His saints...bless God in the

    congregations.

    Priest: Wisdom...

Reader: The Reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians (4:9-16)

    Priest: Let us be Attentive

BRETHREN, God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like

men sentenced to death; because we have become a

spectacle to the world, to angels and to men. We are fools

for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak,

but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disre-

pute. To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-

clad and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working

with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when perse-

    cuted, we endure; when slandered, we try to conciliate;

we have become, and are now, as the refuse of the world,

the off-scouring of all things. I do not write this to make you

ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For

though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not

have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus

through the gospel. I urge you, then, be imitators of me.

    GOSPEL READING

The Reading is from The Gospel of St. Matthew

    (10:32-33;37-38;19:27-30)

The Lord said to his disciples, "Every one who acknowledges

me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father

who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men, I also

will deny him before my Father who is in heaven. He who

loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and

he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of

me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not

worthy of me." Then Peter said in reply, "Lo, we have left eve-

rything and followed you. What then shall we have?" Jesus

said to them, "Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the

Son of man shall sit on his glorious throne, you who have fol-

lowed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve

tribes of Israel. And every one who has left houses or brothers

or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my

name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal

life. But many that are first will be last, and the last first."

    MINISTRY NEWS

    PHILOPTOHOS NEWS

Summer is officially here and everyone is thinking of vacations

and time to get away. Ever notice how empty church is on a

Sunday once summer is here? Well the church is not on vaca-

tion and neither is Philoptohos. Though we dont have meetings

during the summer we are always here and can be reached for

help. You can find us at church or you can leave a message for

us at the church office and the wonderful people there will pass it

    onto us.

OPERATION LACE UP: Our Philoptohos chapter is spearheading

the drive with FOCUS to distribute shoes to the homeless students

in the Los Angeles Unified School District. We need volunteers to

sign up and help us sort, pack and get the shoes ready for distri-

bution to the schools. There are 60,000 children registered as

homeless in LAUSD, more than in any other city in the United

States. We will be doing this in the month of July. Please see the

flyer in the Herald newsletter for sign up information or you may

    call Judie Christopoulos at 626-840-7508.

Our fall meetings will begin September 22nd. Please mark your

calendars and join us for our first meeting of the year. Our speak-

er will be Tina Russek from the Los Angeles Mission. Tina is a very

enthusiastic speaker who informs us of what is going on at the

Mission and the work that they do. The Mission is Christian based,

offering bible classes and counseling for the people who come

to them for help. The Cheerios and coffee drive that we held the

last two years has been very successful and we hope to do it

again in October. Mornings are very busy times for the Mission

because the adults and children who have been out on the

street all night are tired, cold and hungry.

Philoptohos must continue to reach out and do the work of our

Lord. The poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the

unemployed, the orphaned, those who may need assistance.

That is what Philoptohos is here for.

For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have

    me John 12:8.

    With love in Christs service,

Virginia Noyes and the Philoptohos Board of Directors

    PHILANTHROPIA

USED CLOTHING and CANNED GOODS: Thank you for all

the generous donation of used clothing during the holidays

and beyond. This is a year-long project, so please continue

your donations as there are still many we need to

reach. Please identify all clothing donations on the outside

of the bags by indicating whether they are for men, wom-

en or children. The two new receptacles for "used clothing"

and "canned goods" are working great. They are located

side by side, in the general area of the nursery. Thank you!

STREET OUTREACH: Thank you to everyone who has donat-

ed so far. To date, more than $1,200.00 worth of items

have been collected and distributed to the abandoned

children in the outreach for the Childrens Hospital of Los

Angeles. Dr. Nikos Stefanidis, Ph.D. a Staff Psychologist at

Childrens Hospital, L.A., is the Clinical Director of this High

Risk Program. Your continued help will assure that these

children are cared for year round by purchasing new

items such as the following: T-Shirts (M-L); Boxers
