SAINT GABRIEL THE ARCHANGEL SADDLE RIVER
Family life is sacred, but it is not without trial. Perhaps
this is the most important message we can glean from today’s
readings. If Jesus, Mary, and Joseph can trip up sometimes, can
disconnect, then we shouldn’t find it surprising when such things
happen to us as well. And parents everywhere (children, too) can
probably relate to, and take some solace in, the Gospel’s account
of Mary and Joseph after Jesus explained why he stayed behind in
the temple. They heard his words, Luke tells us, “But they did not
understand what he said to them." Amen! Nevertheless, Jesus
does go back home with them, and continues to thrive under their
care.
Happy New Year!
Fr. Frank
Thank You!!
On December 12 our Adult Choir and Kid’s Chorus held their
annual Christmas Concert. We had a great number of people who
joined us for this beautiful celebration of Christmas music, both
in song and organ selections. I extend a special thank you to Joe
Scorese, Stacie Yao, Rich D’Amore and Julia Radosz, and the all
choir members for all that they did to make the concert so mov-
ing. It was a wonderful way to get us into the Christmas spirit. I
thank the members of the parish music ministry for the sharing of
their time and talent with our parish in such a special way.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS
Youth Group: During the school year
the Youth Group meets every Sunday
night in the Kavin Center from 7:00-
8:30pm. All high school teenagers are
welcome to join us. Meetings are struc-
tured yet informal, and they usually consist of a discussion topic,
group dynamics, prayer, and socializing. Feel free to bring a
friend along with you. Whether you’ve been involved in our pro-
gram before or not, you are always welcome to attend our meet-
ings. Refreshments are served.
WINTER BEREAVEMENT GROUP
'Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.’
When someone we love has been taken from us, we often find
ourselves dealing with change and transition. Many offer their
help, but do not always understand the loss we are feeling. Be-
reavement support groups are one way to find support from others
who are going through the same process. We cannot go around
the grief process, over it, or under it. We need to go through it;
we need to be good to ourselves, putting balance into our lives
through prayer, reading, resting, relaxation and work. Grief takes
time. Unrealistic expectations undermine the healing process.
The parishes of St. Gabriel, St. Catharine are Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel are jointly sponsoring a Bereavement Support
Group. You need not be a parishioner to attend. The group will
meet on Thursday afternoons from 1-2:30pm and will run for
eight consecutive weeks beginning on January 28 and ending on
March 17.Pre-registration is required - please contact Sr. Esther
Falzone at 201-327-5663 x305 or Annette Gallagher at 201-612-
4660. All calls are confidential.

YEAR OF MERCY
Holy Years feature special celebrations and
pilgrimages. They call for conversion and
repentance and they offer special opportu-
nities to experience God’s grace through
the sacraments, especially Reconciliation.
Pope Francis said: “I am convinced that the
whole Church – which has much need to
receive mercy, because we are sinners –
will find in this jubilee the joy to rediscover and render fruitful
the mercy of God, with which we are called to give consolation
to every man and woman of our time.”
Next week: Holy Doors open in our Archdiocese of Newark
MUSIC MINISTRY RECORDING
The Music Ministry is pleased to announce the release of their
third CD, Be Thou My Vision. This work was made possible by a
generous grant from the Marjorie Bunnell Charitable Trust and
contains a colorful arrangement of our favorite hymns performed
by our choirs as well as by Stacie Yao on our glorious Kegg pipe
organ. As part of the grant, every family is entitled to one. We
hope you enjoy it and play it often!”
CHANGE IN DAILY MASS SCHEDULE
Beginning in January, 2016, we will no longer have a 12 Noon
Mass on Mondays and Fridays. When there were two priests in
the parish there was no problem in covering two Masses a day.
Now that Fr. Frank is the only priest here during the week it is not
feasible to offer a noon Mass right in the middle of the day when
he may be called out on sick calls or anointings. And then when
he has a funeral Mass on those days, he does not then have
enough time to get back from the cemetery. It is too difficult to
find another priest on such short notice. We ask for your kind
understanding in this matter. There is always the 9:00 AM Mass.
We will continue having the 6:30 and 9:00 AM Masses on Tues-
day, Wednesday and Thursday.
