We are now in Ordinary Time! Ordinary Time began after we celebrated the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord last weekend. The liturgical color is green. The Christmas decorations are removed. But “Ordinary Time” does not mean routine or mundane. It means “ordered” time. That is why we use a number to refer to the week. This week we celebrate the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. You might ask, when was the First Sunday in Ordinary Time? Actually, it was at sundown last Sunday, January 10th.
This year we will have only five weeks of Ordinary Time before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 10th. And Easter is the earliest it can be; The Triduum begins on Thursday, March 24th (Holy Thursday) and continues Friday, March 25th (Good Friday), and Easter Vigil, March 26th/Easter Sunday, March 27th.
The Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity begins on Monday, January 18th and ends on Monday, January 25th. During this time, Christians everywhere are asked to pray for unity in Christ and an end to what divides us. See this bulletin for the special prayer service with our Christian sisters and brothers.
We observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 18th. Dr. King had the dream of unity and peace for all people. Let us keep this dream alive!

January 24th at 4:00PM – Join Archbishop Listecki, Bishop Barrow and Bishop Miller for prayer, personal reflection and conversation on how we receive and in turn share God’s wondrous mercy. Snow/Weather Closings and Evening Meetings
Due to our insurance liability, if the parish is closed during the day for snow or weather emergencies, it will also be closed in the evening of the same day, and all meetings will be cancelled. This includes the Choir and AA. Thank you for your consideration and cooperation.

Please also note to look for “St. Therese–Milwaukee” in Milwaukee County. (Sometimes there is confusion with “St. Theresa” and “St. Therese” other cities and counties of the archdiocese.)
Weekday Mass and Liturgy Schedule
As we have done the past few years at the request of Fr. Hugh, the Wednesday evening 6:30PM mass and the Friday morning 8:30AM mass will be suspended from December 26th through Ash Wednesday, February 10th. The Friday 8:30AM morning mass will resume on Friday, February 12th and the Wednesday evening 6:30PM mass will resume on Wednesday, February 17th.
The Tuesday morning 8:30AM mass and Thursday morning 8:30AM Liturgy of the Word with Communion will continue with no interruption. Thank you for noting these changes.
2016 St. Joseph Sunday Missals Available
A new liturgical year has begun! The 2016 St. Joseph Sunday missals are available on the tables at the entrances of the church. Donation is $2. Reading the Scriptures before celebrating the Eucharist can be a fruitful way to appropriate the message of the Word of God proclaimed each week.

Jesus taught us how to pray. He gave us The Our Father to add to our daily prayers. Pray the Our Father daily and please continue to begin each day and end each day with the Sign of our Faith. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Morning and evening are wonderful times to reminds us that the entire day is in God’s loving care.

Please bring cans of any size to mass and put them on the labeled table near the sacristy for the St. Vincent de Paul Meal Program through January 31st. Adult Formation Opportunity–
“Considering Islam”
Pope Francis hopes that this Year of Mercy will be a “true moment of encounter with the mercy of God” and urges us to use this year as an opportunity to learn about Islam “to eliminate every form of close-mindedness and disrespect, violence, and discrimination.” In this series, Maajid Nawz and Ayaan Hirsi Ali, each of whom has made the journey from being an extremist Muslim to recommending an Islamic Reformation as the way forward, will guide us through the many faces of Islam today.

The Sharing Recipient for this month is Pathfinders. Pathfinders empowers youth in crisis to make positive life choices, providing some of the Milwaukee area’s most comprehensive programming for youth in crisis, through housing & shelter, education, family engagement and youth empowerment. Shelter the Homeless: January 2016 Pope Francis declared a Jubilee Year of Mercy that began on December 8th, 2015 and will continue through November 20th. Catholics throughout the archdiocese are invited to practice the Works of Mercy throughout the jubilee year. For January, we focus on the Work of Mercy: “Shelter the Homeless.” Take this Mercy Action: Donate to an agency serving the homeless, volunteer at a shelter and practice generous hospitality by inviting guests to your home. To learn more about “Sheltering the Homeless,” check out the Jubilee of Mercy Video Series with Fr. Ken Omernick by visiting www.archmil.org/yearofmercy. Videos are posted on the 1st of each month.
Interfaith Presentations and Dialogue
Janan Najeeb, activist and community leader will give a two-part presentation sponsored by the School Sisters of St. Francis titled “Understanding the Islamic Faith: Commonalities with Christianity and the Role of Women.” The lectures will take place on two Saturdays (February 6th and 27th) from 9:00AM to 10:30AM at St. Joseph Center in Milwaukee. A Stewardship Moment
Second Sunday in Ordinary Time – January 16th/17th
In today’s second reading, Saint Paul makes a list of gifts dispensed to members of the Christian community by the Holy Spirit. Each gift bestowed has a specific purpose for the person for whom it is intended: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, mighty deeds, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation. Good stewards know these gifts are not meant to be kept hidden by the recipient but to be shared with the community and beyond. As we begin a new year, let us reflect on the gift the Holy Spirit has given to each of us. Do we recognize this gift? How was it intended that we use this gift? Are we being good stewards of this gift?

Saint Jude the Apostle School Open House
Saint Jude School will be hosting an Open House for prospective new families on Monday, February 15th from 8:30AM to 4:30PM. We hope many will come to see what makes Saint Jude School special! New families are invited to visit while our school is in session and meet our students and teachers. Individual tours will be given, and there will be plenty of time to ask questions and meet with the principal. We’ll be showcasing our kindergarten programs, as well as our technology offerings and Smart Boards.

The Burmese Refugee Ministry of SVDP and especially the Burmese refugees, would like to thank St Therese Parish and the Giving Tree Committee for providing Christmas gifts to ten families. We had a Christmas Eve celebration at one of the refugee’s home. Joy, appreciation and smiles were on the faces of all. They will join us at our 5:00PM Mass in spring to extend their thanks.

Building & Grounds Committee Meetings Open to Parishioners Parishioners are welcome to attend Building & Grounds Committee meetings to voice a concern or ask a question. Please contact Committee Chair Dan Goeden or Building Services Coordinator Denise Dostalek with a general idea of your concerns a minimum of seven days prior to the meeting to ensure the committee has time to gather any supporting information needed to answer appropriately. There is a form to fill out and submit in the Building & Grounds Committee mailbox in the sacristy.
The committee meets on the first Thursday of the month in Heck Hall. Upcoming meeting dates include: February 4th, March 3rd, May 5th, and June 2nd. April and November meetings are used to prepare for the upcoming seasons and unfortunately, we do not have the time to discuss additional topics at those meetings. We do not meet in December.
Sacred Heart Parish Annual Pre-Lenten Dinner
On Sunday, February 7th from 10:30AM to 2:00PM, enjoy spit roasted chicken, fried chicken and Sarma (stuffed Cabbage rolls) with all the delicious sides for $10 for Adults and $5 for Children under 10. Home baked desserts and beverages available as well.

Sacramental Records are Confidential!
Parish sacramental records are confidential, and the privacy of these records must be strictly protected. Open access to parish sacramental records is not allowed, as these records may contain information that is confidential or could be detrimental to a person's reputation if made public. Training should be provided for parish staff who retrieve and provide the requested sacramental records information.
Only those sacramental records that predate 1920 are open to genealogists and others. Genealogy requests may also be forwarded to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Archives in writing.
Post 1920 records are available only to the individual whose name appears on the record or to a parent if the child is under the age of 18. Please remember that if a parent of an adult child (18 years of age or older) calls the parish office requesting a copy of that child's baptismal certificate because s/he is getting married (for example) the parish office cannot give or send the certificate to the parent. The certificate must be sent to the adult child or to a specific person at the parish at which the marriage is to take place.
