At our Annual Meeting on May 1st, there were three written questions submitted at the end of the meeting. We addressed two of these at the meeting. In this column I will address all three questions.
How are our priests compensated?
Our priests are compensated by the archdiocesan standard for stole fees and stipends for the sacraments, and additionally, for mileage at the current IRS rate.
The Clergy Manual of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee lists the stole fee, stipend, and mileage for each liturgy/service a priest celebrates. In short, we compensate them for the number of services rendered.
Since the main ministry of our priests is presiding and administering the sacraments, they are paid accordingly for the number of services for which they preside.
If you would like further information on what these stole fees, stipends, and mileage are, please contact Lisa Vallone, Bookkeeper, at the Parish Office.
Mass attendance on holydays is very low. Since we have only one mass at 8:00AM on holydays, would the attendance increase if we offered another mass at a time more people could attend?
For years we celebrated two masses on holydays of obligation: a morning mass at 8:00AM and an evening mass at 7:00PM. The evening mass was poorly attended, with less than 20 people in attendance at the last evening mass before we eliminated it.
The morning 8:00AM mass usually has an attendance of approximately 60-75.
What we can do is to try again an evening mass in our Chapel for the next holyday, which is August 15th, the
Solemnity of the Assumption. Celebrating the mass in the Chapel would require fewer liturgical ministers. The Chapel comfortably holds 35. We will try this and see what kind of attendance we have.
Additionally, we will schedule the mass for 6:30PM.
Do we need two Lectors at each liturgy? Some parishes have only one.
While it would be efficient and require a fewer number of Lectors in the ministry if one Lector proclaimed both Scripture readings, the General Intercessions, and the parish announcements, we would not be experiencing the fullness of the Word proclaimed through as many voices. Additionally, we encourage our Lectors to prepare well for each liturgy, so rehearsing and studying the Scripture reading and their assign other General Intercessions and/or announcements requires time and care. Preparing one reading plus the additional General Intercessions or announcements (and sometimes we have a plethora of them!) is plenty for one Lector to prepare.
Assuring two Lectors at each liturgy reflects the richness of the Word which can be proclaimed by young and old and in-between, male and female, experienced, and newly-trained, a diversity of voices!
One of the compliments we frequently hear from visitors to our parish community is how well the Word is proclaimed.
Finally, we want to celebrate the fullness of the liturgy and not give in to minimalism.
Thanks again to all who attended and participated in our Annual Meeting!
God bless you!

Sharing Weekend is Next Weekend – June 11th/12th
Our Sharing Recipient for June 11th/12th is The Benedict Center. They are an interfaith nonprofit agency working with victims, offenders and the community to achieve a system of criminal justice that is fair and treats every person involved with dignity and respect. At the Benedict Center, there are many ways for every person who champions human potential, human dignity, and human rights to make a personal difference. This is a place where a passion for justice runs deep, underscoring our belief that change is always possible and transformation a reality. The Benedict Center’s direct services and systems advocacy serve as interwoven and mutually reinforcing efforts designed to create measurable progress toward the following goals:
1. Reduce the risk of a previous offender committing another crime and increase the life skills, education, employment, and positive social structures of women in conflict with the law.
2. Ensure that women and men leave the Benedict Center with the courage, confidence, knowledge, and ability to create a healthy, safe and nurturing environment for themselves, their children, and their communities.
3. Partner with community leaders, residents and other advocates to effect systemic change in the criminal justice system and to reframe mental illness, addiction, and prostitution as public health concerns that merit treatment, rather than as criminal issues that result in incarceration.
Please continue to be generous in supporting our sharing Recipients! Thank you.

Dear St. Therese Parish Community,
Your generous gift from the cash collection taken at your parish provides crisis housing, system advocacy, and individual support to women and their children impacted by domestic violence. You are helping women, men, and children transform their lives. Thank you!
You have demonstrated your belief that we can create peace in our community. We value the trust you have placed in us and we assure you that Sojourner is leading the effort to eliminate violence in our community.
We remain grateful for your partnership and we look forward to sharing our successes with you.
Gratefully,
Carmen Pitre, President and Chief Executive Office - Sojourner
A Stewardship Moment – June 4th/5th
Saint Paul begins today’s second reading by stating that he was “called” to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As baptized Catholics who have an opportunity to share in Christ’s life through the Eucharist regularly, we too are called to proclaim the teachings of Christ. We are stewards of Christ’s Gospel. But how are we responding to that call? Do we listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit? Do we evade, dodge or ignore the Lord’s call? Do we attempt to proclaim the Gospel in a spirit of compassion and love? Reflect on how you exercise stewardship over the Gospel.
Fortnight for Freedom–Archdiocese of Milwaukee
The Archdiocese is observing a “Fortnight for Freedom” this year, beginning on June 21st and continuing until July 4th. This is a nation-wide effort promoted by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The theme this year is “Witnesses to Freedom” and will focus on the lives of women and men of faith, from all over the world, who have borne witness to authentic freedom in Christ. To highlight the importance of promoting religious liberty, Archbishop Listecki will celebrate a closing mass on July 4th at 8:00AM at Christ King Parish (2604 N. Swan Blvd., Wauwatosa). All are invited.
The Combined Collections: Church in the United States
Direct Mailing from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee All registered members of the parish will be receiving a direct mailing from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for The Combined Collections: Church in the United States. This appeal supports five important outreach ministries of the Church in the United States.
Black and Indian Missions reach out to those who seek Christ in what is often a hostile environment. Approximately half of the funds collected are returned to our archdiocese for grants to assist local projects and initiatives, such as the Congregation of the Great Spirit and the Black Catholic Ministry.
Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) confronts the causes of poverty, rather than merely treating its symptoms. With the archbishop’s approval, CCHD makes both national and local grants each year to create jobs, improve education, and strengthen neighborhoods.
Catholic University of America is the national university of the Catholic Church. The university provides an academically rigorous education guided by the Catholic intellectual tradition to nearly 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students each year.
Catholic Communication Campaign develops media programming and resources that promote Gospel values. Within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, thousands of Catholics enjoy hearing spiritual messages from the archbishop on local radio.
Retirement Fund for Religious distributes grants to religious institutes for the retirement needs of senior religious sisters, brothers, and priests.
As Pope Francis reminds us, “In the poor and outcast, we see Christ’s face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and serve Christ.” Thank you for your generosity.
Parents and Guardians: Get Involved
Parents and guardians play a key role in the success of parish programs for young people. Parents and guardians who are involved in parish programs and events will be in the best position to protect their own children as well as all the children in the parish community. Involvement and communication are important factors in helping to ensure safe environments for all of our children.

Sacristans for Funerals Needed
One of the ministries of mercy and compassion that we are privileged to offer is our outreach to grieving families at the time of death and through the liturgical services we celebrate. Sacristans assist for our Masses of Christian Burial (funerals) by preparing the Bread and Wine, incense and thurible, pall, and generally, helping in the sacristy. The Sacristan is the “behind the scenes” minister. If you are interested in being trained as a Sacristan, please contact Heather Goeden in the Parish Office.
Ministry Coordinators Needed
Eucharistic Minister Coordinator
Our Eucharistic Ministry is in need of a Coordinator. If you are a Eucharistic Minister and would like to serve Our Lord and the parish coordinating this ministry, please contact Heather Goeden in the Parish Office. Greeter Coordinator
Did you know that our parish greeters are the largest group of liturgical ministers in our parish? We are in need of a Greeter Coordinator. If you are interested in serving the parish and the Lord in this ministry, please contact Heather Goeden in the Parish Office.
Break Free!
It’s hard to know when you have a pornography addiction, and it’s even more difficult to admit you have one, and get help. It might start out innocently enough – you run across an image on the internet – and you keep going back. You may not even realize how much power pornography has over you. The Catholic Church loves and cares for you. We can help you break free of pornography addiction. Take the first step! We can help! Visit the Nazareth Project of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee at www.johnpaul2center.org/Nazareth-Project/pornographyhelp.htm.
