Welcome to St. William Parish!

We are glad that you are here with us today. We invite you to learn more about St. William and learn how to get connected to our faith community. Registration information is available from the parish of-fice on Ravine Street.

Learning About Catholicism? We would like to share our faith in Jesus Christ with you. For information about how to become Catholic call RCIA Coordinator Mary MacPherson at 755-0306.

Marrying Soon? - Congratulations! God who has loved you from the beginning has chosen you in Christ. We are eager to share God’s love with you for this very important day. Please call us to plan a wedding, six months in advance if possible. We also encourage those who previously married outside the Catholic Church to call and learn how to enter into the Church’s sacrament.

Baptizing a Child? – Congratulations! We are happy to share in the baptism of a child. Classes for parents are held on the third Monday of each month.

It is important for both parents to be a part of this preparation for Bap-tism. Therefore if you work the night shift, please let us know and another time can be scheduled for you.

Because the role of Godparents is also important in helping to share, support and nurture your child’s growth in faith, they are most wel-come to attend with you.

Pastoral Care for the Sick: If you or a loved one are in need of any pastoral care please contact the parish office. For an emergency please call 414-429-5790. Anointing of the Sick, Reconciliation, and Holy Communion are all provided for on request. Fr. Jim is happy to visit with anyone in need, no matter their religion.

Be Reconciled to God! (2 Cor 5:20) – If you need forgiveness for a specific sin or past hurt, the sacrament of reconciliation is offered at St. William on Thursdays at 6pm, Saturdays 3:00 pm, or by appoint-ment.

St. William School – We welcome students of all faiths to enroll at St. William Catholic School. To schedule a tour with principal Diane Rebout, please call 608-755-5184

Any requests for information can be made to the parish office at 1815 Ravine Street, 608-755-5180.

STEWARDSHIPREFLECTION “Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?” (Luke 17:18) Most of us live “easy” lives. We have food, shelter, and clothing. We go on vacation every year and own a car or two. Most of us take this all for granted. Did you ever notice that people with the least amount of possessions are usually the most grateful? Shouldn’t this be the other way around? Take time every day and thank God for all He has given you.

HEALING AND SALVATION

The readings today speak of healing and salvation. In Second Kings, Naaman, a commander of the army of the king of Syria, develops leprosy. He goes to a stranger, a prophet from Israel, when no one else can cure his disease. Much to his surprise, after a simple bath in the river, he is cured. In Luke s Gospel, Jesus cures ten lepers and sends them to the priest. Only one, a Samaritan, returns to thank Jesus for his cure and only he hears the words, Your faith has saved you. The psalm and Timothy remind us that salvation involves justice, kindness, and faithful-ness and forever links us with Jesus. In a world as broken as ours, both healing and salvation are necessary.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Christian liturgy has al-ways contained an opportunity to make a choice for sharing. From the beginning, Christians pooled their resources, espe-cially for the care of widows and orphans, at the weekly Eucha-rist. Over the years, the collec-tion became detached from the liturgy and baskets or plates would be passed through the community while the Mass was going on at the altar, or contri-butions would be collected at the doors. In Milan’s Ambrosian Rite, these gifts have always been brought to the altar by lay people in procession. In Ger-man countries, the ancient cus-tom was for the entire assembly to process with their gifts—first the men, then the women, then the priests and deacons—to of-fer their gifts at the altar. The old ceremony of canonization included a curious vestige of this procession: people would present the pope with two loaves of bread, two barrels of wine and water, five candles, and three cages containing pi-geons or turtledoves! —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
