Articles need to be submitted, in writing, to the Rectory by 11:00 am Friday the week before the Bulletin is printed.

Sainte Anne Parish is a faith community in the Roman Catholic tradition. We strive to live up to the motto: "We Are Family". We see ourselves as a local expression of the universal Church, the People of God, the Body of Christ. Through God's grace we seek to be welcoming and loving. Our life centers on the week-end celebration of the Eucharist. We meet Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and are then challenged to bring His love to others.

Parish Staff:

O glorious St. Ann, you are filled with compas-sion for those who invoke you and with love for those who suffer! Heavily burdened with the weight of my troubles, I cast myself at your feet and humbly beg of you to take the present inten-tion which I recommend to you in your special care.

Please recommend it to your daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and place it before the throne of Jesus, so that He may bring it to a happy issue. Continue to intercede for me until my request is granted. But, above all, obtain for me the grace one day to see my God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the saints to praise and bless Him for all eternity. Amen.

I Call You Friends (John 15:15), (Part Eight)

Dear People of God, in our last segment, we discussed that God told Moses that the only way Moses will be able to see God is to see God’s back. In this sense, to see the face of God is to follow God, to be behind God. But we also acknowledged that the desire to see God’s face, found in the human heart, could not have been placed there by God if God could not satisfy that desire. As Maurice Blondel, the French philosopher argues in his L’Action, the one thing necessary, the desire for the infinity, is not only a logical necessi-ty, it is also an existential necessity, in that a desire that is present in the human heart demands a fulfilment. For the believer, God could not have placed the desire in the human heart for the face of God, if such a desire could not be satisfied by God. In this context, the cry for Moses takes on a new meaning: “I pray thee, show me thy face” (Exodus 33:18). Moses does not see the face of God, for as God said to Moses, “You cannot see my face” (Exodus 33:20). Even though Moses is closest to God, capable of entering into the cloud of God’s presence and to speak with God as a friend speaks to a friend, it is only the “last Moses” the “new Mo-ses,” as Benedict XVI points out, “that will be granted to what was refused to the first one – a real, immediate vision of the face of God, and thus the ability to speak entirely from seeing, not just from looking at God’s back” (Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, Jesus of Naza-reth, Vol. I, 5-6). This implies that the new Moses will usher in a greater Covenant than that brought about by Moses at Sinai (Hebrews 9:11-24). Dear People of God at Ste Anne’s, this is the background thanks to which we can understand the prologue of the Gospel of John: “No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is nearest to the Father’s heart, who has made him known” (John 1:18). In Jesus of Nazareth, therefore, the promise made to Moses, and through Moses, to all of Israel, has been fulfilled. Moses’ cry to God, “show me your face,” has been fulfilled. Jesus is not just close to God. Jesus is not just a friend of God. Jesus is the Son of God, and as Son of God, Jesus “lives in the most intimate unity with the Father” (Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, Jesus of Nazareth, 6). And this is why Jesus’ appearance in history marks a turning point in history. And we should note that history is not just about the collective happen-ings in the world. History is the story of each and every one of us, all of us, here at Ste Anne’s. Each one of us is history because each one of us is willed by God, called into being by God, known by God and destined for God. There is no “unplanned” human being.

Kinship Across Borders: A Christian Ethic of Immigration in Troubled Times

Kristin E. Heyer, Ph.D., Professor of Theological Ethics at Boston Col-lege will present this lecture and discussion on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 2-4 pm at St. John the Baptist Church Hall,19 Chestnut Street, Peabody, MA. The fear-based approaches that currently shape the immigration debate in our country can distort the realities that mi-grants face. In this lecture Dr. Heyer will explore the contributions that Scripture and the Catholic social tradition offer, envisioning a future of

civic kinship with moral, spiritual and policy implications.

This program is sponsored by Voice of the Faithful North Shore-Seacoast Affiliate. All are invited. Free will offerings are appreciated.

PRAYER BOX Sainte Anne's Tuesday Rosary group has always strived to bring the intentions of all to our Blessed Mother. To help in that endeav-or a "Prayer Box" has graciously been donated by one of the group's members. During the week the box will be on the table at the rear of the main church along with a small pad of paper and a pen. Anyone wishing to ask for the inter-cession of Mary may place their request in the box. On Tuesday evening during the Rosary the box will be placed at the feet of the Statue of our Blessed Mother.

St. Michael Prayer: In view of the many crises throughout the world, in our own country, and in the Church, a growing number of the American bishops are requiring or requesting that the Prayer to St. Michael, the Archangel, be prayed at the end of every Mass. We are now praying this prayer after Daily Mass and on the week-ends at all Masses. It is found in the bulletin and can be found on the back cover of the Heritage Missal. This prayer was also prayed after each Mass until the 1960s. Pray it also in your families.

The kitchen crew is looking for donations of Market Basket gift

cards to offset the cost of the food at this year’s bazaar. We will

also accept donations of soda.

All donations can be dropped off at the rectory. Please put gift

cards in an envelope and put Patty Levasseur on the outside.

You can call Patty at 978-836-1146 if you are interested in help-

ing out.

Thank you!

Sacrament of the Sick: One of the gifts of the Second Vatican Council was the renewal of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This beautiful sacrament is no longer reserved for a person in danger of death, but should be celebrated by any-one with a serious illness, a person facing serious surgery, or a person in a weak-ened condition. The next celebration of this sacrament will be following the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sun-day October 20th. The sacrament is also available for people in their homes by calling the rectory at 978-744-1930. Anyone terminally ill or beginning Hospice Care should receive this sac-rament as soon as possible.

Tuesday Evening Adoration and Rosary: Please join in the Tuesday evening 6:30p.m. Eucharistic Adoration and Praying of the Holy Rosary. With extra effort we could fill our chapel with praying people. Pray especially for the renewal and growth of Ste. Anne Parish. Mary, the Mother of the Lord, has constantly asked for the daily praying of the Rosary. At the very least try to join in this prayer once a week.

It’s that time again!!! We need your help in filling Fr. George's Patriots Bank for the bazaar. Any change or bills would be greatly appreciated. To-gether we can get this filled. Please leave in the basket at the back of the church. Thanks again for all you do for Ste. Anne's Parish.

Don’t forget to return your Big Money

Raffle tickets to the Rectory.

BEAUTIFUL FALL WREATHS Thank You to Josie who bought the supplies and made the beautiful Fall wreaths for the 6 entry way doors of the church in the courtyard and Story Street. They enhance our entry-ways making them more attractive and welcoming. Thank You again Josie, from your Ste. Anne Family for sharing your Time, your Talent and your Treasure with us. God bless you.

29th Sunday of Ordinary Time Cycle Yr C The secretary at our school is a computer wizard, explaining the inner workings of word processors, spreadsheets and accounting programs to the confused and the lost! When asked how she knew so much, she said that she always read the directions and all the information she could find online. Even though she knew the pro-grams, she was always reviewing, learning something new or dis-covering a new way of using the computer to make her job better. As the early Church community was growing, St. Paul reminds Timothy that the Scriptures are the source of wisdom. They lead us to faith in Jesus and to salvation. They are the directions of faith that teach us the ways of God. Follow Him and He will lead us to the life of Heaven. In word and deed, all of the baptized are called to preach the Gospel, teaching the truth of the Gospel as we support and help one another. That’s what it means to be a member of the community of faith. We all need a refresher course in faith from time to time. Review-ing the basics, learning more about Scripture, deepening our un-derstanding of the sacraments or discovering something about our history can renew our sense of connection, our dedication to our mission and an appreciation of who we are as a community of faith. There is always something new to learn, or something to remember, or a new level of understanding to achieve that will help us explain, defend or grow our faith. Sometimes it just pays to read—and reread—the directions! ~James Gaffney, © 2010 Karides Lic. to St. George Publishing [email protected]
