Motion for Rosalva as board member: Greg moved for approval second by Gloria. Motion passed.

Business representative: Holly Velasquez Horvath has been a member to other charter schools

the board would like to send an invitation to become a business representative for the board.

Holly has a couple of funding opportunities from Xcel Energy that could include the funding for

the school marquee displaying the sponsorship. Along with other grants that Xcel can provide.

Dr. Bond moved for approval second by Ana. Motion passed.

Unfinished Business:

Update on board strategic notes/plan: (in principal’s report) the 80% expectations are

compared to scores in San Antonio and Dallas ELL schools and what they have managed to

accomplish. Nidia and Francis are the trainers and will be checking on teachers making sure that

they are setup according to the Gomez and Gomez checklist.

Walton Foundation Grant review: $125,000 Rebecca and Joe met with CDE representatives to go over the requirements that need to be met prior to receiving the second half of grant. There are

a couple requirements for the Walton grant to include the board members to complete the module

training on the League of Charter Schools website. Reviewing the Title I plan and UIP for approval

in October. Another requirement will be creating or finding a program that produces preliminary,

midterm and final assessments. Programs being looked into include Galileo, SchoolCity, Alpine

and NWEA (North Western Educational Association).

Update on transportation: The Boys and Girls Club said they would be able to perform morning

services only and District 6 could possibly do afternoon transportation pending on the amount of

students utilizing the service. Joe is still looking into which points would be best for pick up and

drop off, along with finding out the percentage of interested parents in using the service. A trial

run is expected to occur hopefully in the month of October or November. Transportation for field

trips will be provided through District 6, employees are expected to set up transportation at least

90 days in advance.

New Business:

SDSA Facebook Policy/Revision: the schools current Facebook page is not setup as a business site. Joe hired a consultant to review what was currently on the Facebook page and how to set up

a business page, along with the main functions/standards. Hopefully will have a business page

created in the next month or so.

Student Drop-off/Pickup procedure: The new student Drop-off/ pickup procedure was setup for security and safety purposes. This procedure prevents visitors from entering the building with

the students, if parents need to enter the building they are to wait until a specified time and go in

through the front office to receive a visitor’s badge. The safety concern with the old procedure

was that the playground cannot fit 700 students. The inclement weather procedure will be grades

K-3 go to the Cafeteria and 4-8 report to the gym. Joe met with parents on Sept. 2 to go over

concerns and the Board’s dispute process.

Board module training 2015.2016: Every board member is to sign up at least 3 modules.

We have new information on our CMAS Soc. Stud. And Science scores from last year

and feel that the achievement goals need to be reconsidered in light of these scores. It is empowering to us to have more attainable goals. Internally, we should note that

we use SMART goals to ensure some realism to goals. We need to recognize that other schools against which we might be compared might

be in their 10th year of operation vs. being new like Salida Del Sol. Seems premature to set goals without last year’s PARCC results. Social studies and the sciences will need support and curriculum if we are to reach

these goals. Please provide an explanation of why 90% for LAS Links vs. 80% used in all the other

indicators. We just want to know the rationale (Francis created this goal). Question: Are we letting students in after 3rd grade? Was this taken into

consideration when these decisions were made? Question: Did you compare our goals with scores for Gomez schools in other

comparable states like Texas when you developed these goals? Question: WIDA includes kids who come and go-how will we account for this factor?

2. Beginning of the School Year, and School Procedures

Despite our evacuation on the first day, many teachers and parents reported that it went smooth

Morning Drop-off and Afternoon Pick-up procedures have been restructured and were well established

Middle School Schedules: we had a few complications but were cleaned up by the end of the full first week

Dress Code enforced by administration and teachers Medical procedures have been established Students are settle in classrooms, and teachers began content teaching

Student Parent Handbook distributed electronically, printed version will be out this week

First PLP conferences are set 35 Students with IEP, District 6 might provide additional support. They will provide

curricular materials for Direct Instruction L.A. and Math

3. School Culture: We added a value to our PBIS. The value is Attitude and it contains Language and culture pride!

S=Safety, O= Ownership, L=Leadership, A=Attitude, R=Respect School Culture is emerging: Safety Sigh, Cheer, Legend of the Phoenix Principal’s focus for teachers: Go to BAT = Building Culture, (Student) Achievement,

Target Oriented.
