Tom and Don Salmon were raised on an Arkansas farm; their Dad drove a truck for a living. In 1957, when the new Chevrolet models were introduced, there was no way that the Salmon family could afford to purchase one. Tom, Don, and their father (until his passing in 1988) worked diligently to build a successful transportation business which contracts with the United States Postal Service for mail delivery. From these humble beginnings, twin brothers Tom and Don agreed between themselves that if they could ever afford it, that they would like to own a 1957 Chevrolet in every color that was produced by the factory!

It took a number of years to accomplish that goal, but that is exactly what the brothers did. In fact, the Salmon Brothers automobile collection has gone way beyond 1957 Chevrolets to include nearly every domestic manufacturer ranging from a 1908 Maxwell to a Roush-powered 2008 Ford Mustang … plus Corvettes, Muscle Cars, Classics, and Antiques. One hundred years of American automotive history living under one roof.

Regarding the pre-war classics in the collection, Don states “After we had the Chevrolet collection assembled, we began to like the classics, so we began to buy them.” When asked about the size of the Salmon Brothers collection, Tom, with a smile adds, “I just forgot to take my hand down!”

Being twins, Tom and Don have had a unique relationship with respect to how certain cars came to be part of the collection, as they have always conferred with one another before making an acquisition.

Admitting to “Slowing down a bit” (although showing very little signs of it), Tom and Don decided after their last birthday to allow their collection of cars to be sold and appreciated by new owners.

Tom states, “We’ve both had a great time with these cars, and we’ll continue to collect automobiles, just on a smaller scale.”

Restored in 1999 and still in excellent condition, this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door hardtop offers great cosmetics in its very nice Gypsy Red paint, complementary Red and Black interior and quality chrome. More than just a looker, it also has the performance advantage of Chevrolet’s EG-code 283 CI Power Pack small block engine fitted with an aluminum intake manifold, dual quad carburetion, “Batwing” air cleaner and high lift cam, here backed by a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. Gold anodized exterior script and bright trim touches, a one-piece “California” front bumper, spinner hubcaps and wide Whitewalls and a genuine Wonderbar radio complete the presentation of this superior Tri-Five Chevy.

This expertly restored 1955 Ford Thunderbird features the first-year P-code 292/198 HP 4-barrel V-8 engine with floor shifted automatic transmission. Unique touches include pastel Yellow paint with a complementary Black and Yellow interior appointed with a custom bench seat and custom gauges and tachometer. A Black soft top, chromed wire wheels and wide Whitewalls finish this good-looking and rare first year ‘Bird.

In 1950 Willys introduced the first postwar Jeep, the MC38, which was based on the previous year’s CJ-3A. The M38 was followed in 1953 by the M39A1, the first to feature the new so-called “round-fendered” body that also incorporated a taller hood line to accommodate the new taller Hurricane 4-cylinder inline engine. This Army model MC38A1 Jeep was produced in 1964 and now shows a believed-actual 26,081 original miles. In keeping with its Army designation, this example is equipped with a rear mounted spare tire and canteen; it has also been retrofitted with turn signals for road use.

In 1955 Chevrolet merged pickup utility with passenger car styling in the revolutionary Cameo, which wore Fleetside fiberglass rear fenders and such Chevy passenger car elements as an eggcrate grille, wraparound glass and a fan-shaped instrument cluster. This attractive 1955 Cameo began its life in the California State Forest Service. It has been restored to correct Bombay Ivory and Cameo Red color scheme and is powered by a 235 CI inline-6 with a 4-speed manual transmission. Believed to have 15,601 original miles, it also sports optional heater and radio, wide Whitewalls and full wheel covers.

After extending its postwar styling for four years, Mercury created a new identity in 1949 with a clean new approach to styling that set new sales records and established the Merc as an American classic. This Calcutta Green 1949 coupe demonstrates the Mercury’s strengths with its long hood/short deck shape, integrated fenders and high grade interior. Its immaculate engine compartment hosts a nicely finished flathead V-8 topped with a chrome oil bath air cleaner and backed by a column-shifted 3-speed manual, and the car’s cosmetics are enhanced by bumper guards and fender skirts, dual mirrors, chromed wheel covers and wide Whitewalls.

It is estimated that Hudson built approximately 6,000 pickup trucks in the two years following World War II, of which a very scant few survive today. This early production 1946 Hudson pickup presents with a nice patina thanks to a frame-on restoration. Its Charcoal paint is complemented by chromed bumper guards, Red painted wheels with chrome caps and trim rings, wide Whitewalls, a nice blond wood cargo bed and a Tan interior with heater, radio and dashboard clock. The Hudson’s flathead inline 6 engine comes with rare “H-Power” twin carburetors and is mated to a column-shift 3-speed manual transmission.

After its 1962 introduction as a mild-mannered economy compact with sporting pretensions, the Chevrolet Nova SS achieved full membership in the American muscle car fraternity with the addition of the L79 327/350 HP small block engine. Described as “The mouse that roared”, the L79’s special hydraulic cam, high-flow heads and 11:1 compression give this genuine 118-code Nova Super Sport Corvette-grade acceleration and performance with a 4-speed manual transmission to maximize the fun. Regal Red with a beautiful Red SS interior, this sparkling example is well outfitted with Strato bucket seats and console, color-keyed seat belts, AM radio, SS spinner wheel covers on Whitewalls and great chrome.

There is something special in the Salmon Brothers Collection for everyone who aspires to owning a classic 1957 Chevrolet. This Tropical Turquoise 2-door sedan is a fine example finished with a contrasting White roof, fender skirts, front and rear bumper guards, full wheel covers on wide Whitewalls and chrome dual exhaust tips. The new-for-1957 283 CI 4-barrel engine with column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission gives the car admirable performance, and passengers are treated to the ‘57’s cleanly styled interior finished in matching Turquoise with contrasting trim and fitted with a radio and in-dash clock.

In 1960 there was nothing else like it on the road: the glorious, larger-than-life Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible, especially when rendered in this example’s stunning Olympic White paint, White soft top and Black-and-White interior. The product of a frame-on restoration in the mid 2000s, it is abundantly well equipped with power steering and brakes, the full complement of power accessories, cruise control, chromed wire wheels and wide Whitewall tires and factory air conditioning. Cadillac’s big 390/345 HP Tri Power V-8 gives the car the power to spare.

1924 marked the production of the ten-millionth Ford Model T, just one of the many milestones that form the fascinating history of Henry Ford’s first trademark model. The 1924 Model T offered here is part of that historical landmark production year. The Black roadster is powered by Ford’s 177 CI inline flathead 4-cylinder engine rated at 20 horsepower, mated to a 2-speed planetary-geared manual transmission. The folding Black carriage top and wood 12-spoke wheels are iconic features of this Model T, which also incorporates a deep-cushioned upholstered seat, a rear-mounted spare tire, chromed “Ford” script on the radiator grille and a Ford Moto-Meter.

This rare 1949 Diamond T 201 pickup truck is believed to have been originally built for the Falstaff Brewery of St. Louis, Missouri, and shows all the characteristics that earned the 201’s reputation as “the Cadillac of trucks”, most noticeably its 1938 Cadillac-inspired front end styling. Powered by a 237 CI straight six 2-barrel flathead engine, it features unique light Burgundy paint, diamond plate cargo bed floor and running boards, chromed bumpers, 6-lug wheels with side mount spares, crank-out windshield and dual mirrors. The refinished interior has been updated with a cassette player and a column-mounted turn signal switch.

Chevrolet’s 1967 Camaro instantly attracted a legion of fans - and new buyers - with models like this well equipped RS/SS coupe, a great looking performer with a 350 CI 4-speed driveline and the popular combination of power steering and brakes and factory air conditioning. Finished in Ermine White with a Black vinyl roof and contrasting Red interior, it also incorporates bucket seats, a center console with auxiliary gauges, Rally wheels with Redline tires and the hideaway headlights, bright moldings and lighting features of the Rally Sport trim package.

While based on the early 40s K-series truck design that established its maker’s reputation for tough, hard-working vehicles, this 1948 International KB woody wagon is a uniquely elegant departure from its more purposeful stable mates that shows surprising style and flair. A nicely restored example with quality Black paint, top, interior and wood framing, the 1100 series woody wagon rolls on Yellow steel wheels wearing wide Whitewall Firestone tires. Unusual for an International of any model, it benefits stylistically from the abundant use of exterior chrome on the bumpers, grill, trim rings and hubcaps, spotlight and pop-out windshield surround.

In 1955 Ford introduced its futuristic Crown Victoria, distinguished by a dramatic wraparound stainless steel “tiara” roof flourish. This Red-over-White 1955 Crown Vic is a very rare 64B Skyliner model made famous by its tinted glass front roof section. In addition to Ford’s 272 CI Y-block V-8 and automatic transmission, this exceptional Skyliner is outfitted with front and rear bumper extensions, bright rocker trim, fender skirts, wire wheel covers and wide Whitewalls, power steering, MagicAire heat, in-dash clock and a driver’s side spotlight.

With all the muscle emanating from Detroit in the late Sixties, it is easy to forget that there were also such boldly styled and elegant machines as this 1969 Buick Riviera Gran Sport, which shows a believed-actual 31,656 original miles. Finished in Trumpet Gold with a Beige vinyl top and matching interior, this handsome Riviera GS came with air conditioning, power steering and brakes, power windows, bucket seats, a unique console-mounted shifter and tilt steering. In addition to all that luxury, the car is a formidable performer thanks to Buick’s high-torque 430 CI 4-barrel, dual exhaust V-8.

Built in the final year of first-generation production, this well-detailed 1966 Chevrolet C10 pickup possesses all the advancements made to the model, including coil spring front suspension, redesigned front grille and windshield, and a 250 CI “High Torque” inline 6-cylinder engine. This C10 long bed example is finished in Red with White highlights on the roof, bumpers, hubcaps and body side trim, and comes with a nicely finished Beige interior, Whitewall tires with a full-size spare and a 3-speed manual transmission.

This fabulously restored 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible has it all; gorgeous Matador Red paint, full dress inside and out and the rare FJ-code 283/293 HP fuel-injected V-8/Powerglide automatic drive train. With its fender skirts, optional extra rocker and fender skirt bright trim, dual antennas, driver’s spotlight mirror, spinner wheel covers, wide Whitewalls and Continental kit, the car has the looks to back up Chevy’s top-performing production engine. There’s comfort and convenience as well in the power steering, power top, tissue dispenser, in-dash clock and Wonderbar radio, all features of the festive Red-and-Silver interior.

Founded in 1907 by Edward M. Murphy, the Oakland Automobile Company was the successor to Murphy’s Pontiac Buggy Company of Pontiac, Michigan. General Motors purchased Oakland just before Murphy’s death, positioning the new brand between the lower priced Chevrolet and the more upscale Buick product lines. This 1920 Model C roadster reflects the Oakland’s evolution over its first decade, incorporating the popular Sensible Six inline engine with a standard transmission on a 118-inch wheelbase frame rolling on wooden spoked wheels. Fitted with a Black top and interior, fold-out windscreen with deflectors, dual mirrors, a wood steering wheel and rear-mounted spare, the Wine-hued open body sits on Black fenders and running boards, its polished radiator shell topped with an exceptionally rare Oakland Moto-Meter.

Produced by Ford Motor Company of Canada between 1946 and 1968, the Mercury M pickup became a popular choice for truck buyers in the Canadian market. One of very few to make it to the American market, this 1949 M-47 pickup is built on a 118-inch wheelbase and uses a high output 255 CI flathead V-8 with a floor-shifted 3-speed transmission. Its brilliant Red finish extends to the steel bed, clean engine compartment and painted wheels, the latter trimmed with chromed hubcaps and rings and shod with wide Whitewall tires; the bumpers and running boards are finished in Black. The clean and functional interior incorporates cowl ventilation.

One of America’s pioneering production compact cars, the Kaiser-Frazer Henry J Deluxe was named after the company’s chairman, automotive tycoon Henry J. Kaiser and aimed at less affluent entry-level buyers. Produced from 1951 to 1954, the short-lived Henry J has since become an increasingly popular collector car. The 1951 Henry J Deluxe offered here is a very nicely done frame-on restoration attractively finished in Pastel Yellow with an inviting Red interior, and is one of approximately 43,000 Deluxe models built that year. It is well appointed with chromed bumpers, heater and radio, chromed wheel covers and wide Whitewall tires. A 161/80 HP flathead inline six Supersonic engine and 3-speed overdrive transmission provide surprising performance in this diminutive and charming American classic.

Oldsmobile’s Super 88 was already a roaring success when Lansing introduced the 1956 model. More power was on the menu in the improved 322/240 HP Rocket engine, and this example’s Jet-A-Way automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes give it the highest level of performance available in the 1956 Super 88. Its two-tone Festival Red and Alcan White color scheme is repeated in the opulent interior featuring tuck-and-roll upholstery, convenience lighting and a signal-seeking radio. Capped with a power-operated White soft top, this sporty Super 88 convertible also incorporates dual exhaust, fender skirts, spinner wheel covers and wide Whitewall tires.

Ford’s 1957 Ranchero helped start the trend toward utility vehicles featuring full passenger car dress and high performance power trains, as demonstrated by this well-appointed Deluxe-level Blue and White example with matching two-tone interior, front and rear bumper extensions, bright rocker trim, chromed wire wheels wrapped in wide Whitewall rubber and chrome-tipped dual exhaust. Under the forward-opening hood, Ford’s Y-block 292 CI Thunderbird engine is fitted with dual 4-barrel carburetors on an aluminum intake manifold, twin chromed air cleaners and high-flow exhaust manifolds, with power steering, Town & Country radio and air conditioning rounding out the equipment list.

Lot S40 1952 HUDSON HORNET HOLLYWOOD 308 CI, Automatic

With their innovative “step-down” bodies and NASCAR championship-winning inline 6-cylinder engines, Hudson was a force to be reckoned with in the early 1950s. Leading the way in performance and styling was the Hudson Hornet Hollywood, whose moniker reflected its glamorous demeanor. This rare code 7B 2-door hardtop example shows beautifully in deep Dark Maroon paint with a matching Maroon interior. The exterior gets the full load with a body-color windshield visor, fender skirts, bumper guards, fog lamps, chromed wheel covers on wide Whitewalls and dual exhaust tips, while the elegant interior offers Hudson’s distinctive twin-bezel instrument panel, heater and tissue dispenser and a period-typical traffic light viewer. Hudson’s famous 308 CI inline six boasts the rare Twin H-Power package comprising dual Carter carburetors and air cleaners.

The predecessor to the baseline Biscayne model in Chevrolet’s full size lineup, the 210 was available in upgraded form as the Del Ray, which offered a higher quality interior and more exterior chrome for an upscale feel on a value budget. This nicely restored 1956 Del Ray 2-door sedan is an excellent example of the model equipped with a superbly detailed 235 CI straight six engine and 3-speed manual and beautifully finished in Matador Red on India Ivory, with Red-painted chrome-trimmed wheels wearing wide Whitewall tires. Demanding collectors will appreciate the Del Ray’s simple yet appealing Black and White interior.

The fifth-generation Chevrolet Corvette reached its full potential in the mighty Z06 fixed roof coupe, whose LS6 346/405 HP all-aluminum small block enabled both comfortable low-speed operation and incredible acceleration and response. This 2003 Z06 matches virtually flawless Torch Red paint with a Black and Red cockpit in a low-mileage showpiece driven just 651 actual miles. Like all Z06 coupes, it incorporates a Z06-specific 6-speed manual transmission, special aluminum wheels, power 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, windows, locks and driver’s seat and dual zone air conditioning.

Showing just 11,451 miles on the clock, this expertly restored 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix demonstrates the strength of the model in its early form, which was the result of a fruitful collaboration between GM’s Bill Mitchell and Pontiac chief Bunkie Knudson. The Nocturne Blue 2-door hardtop is powered by Pontiac’s Trophy 389 CI V-8 4-barrel engine and includes a console-shifted automatic, factory air conditioning, power steering and power brakes. The impressive matching Blue interior, which features bucket seats and console, woodgrain dash trim, vacuum gauge, in-dash clock and Super Select radio, is entirely original with the exception of new carpet. A rare and valuable option: Pontiac’s unique heavy-duty 8-lug wheels.

Charles W. Nash wasted no time getting back into the car business after resigning as president of General Motors in 1916, buying the Thomas B. Jeffery Company of Kenosha, Wisconsin and beginning production as the Nash Motor Company in April 1918. Produced at the height of the Roaring Twenties, this 1928 Nash 335 Cabriolet embodies Nash’s philosophy of producing solid, quality cars at reasonable prices. Its tri-tone Burgundy, Cream and Black color scheme suggests the elegance found in the well-appointed shark-grain leather interior, which features a sculpted walnut steering wheel, inlaid wood dash, fold-out windshield and canvas top. Nash’s reliable 184 CI six cylinder is backed by a 3-speed manual transmission, and cosmetics are rounded out by painted steel wheels and a Boyce Moto-Meter.

The F Series pickups were the centerpiece of Ford’s postwar line of “Bonus Built” trucks introduced in 1951. This restored long-wheelbase F2 stake bed pickup showcases the first-year model’s toothy grille and roomy “Million Dollar” cab that Ford promoted as possessing “living room comfort.” Brightly finished in Red with chromed wheel trim and Black underpinnings, it features a flathead V-8 and floor-shifted 3-speed manual beneath its bullnose hood, a fresh-looking Grey bench seat interior and nicely finished wood cargo bed. This delightful vintage Ford pickup rides on new Firestone radials.

One of 3,640 built in the second year of production, this 1954 Chevrolet Corvette roadster was restored in 1990 and remains in excellent condition. Like the vast majority, it is finished in iconic Polo White with a Red interior and propelled by Chevrolet’s Blue Flame Six engine, here with the early production bullet-style inlet screens on its triple Carter carburetors, and mated to a Powerglide automatic transmission. Equipped with its original gauges, a Wonderbar radio and wide Whitewalls, it is believed to have been driven just 43,857 miles.

The Lincoln Continental first appeared in 1940 as a personal luxury car designed and hand-built for Edsel Ford, but individually crafted production models were soon made available to status-conscious buyers looking for an exclusive status symbol. All the elements are here in this exemplary Continental convertible finished in Dark Blue with a very nice Beige soft top.
