Work experience

S&R Store manager I am currently working for Snow & Rock as the manager of there July 2001 – present day newly opened Manchester Super store. It is a position that I was

promoted to June of this year, having furthered my career from the Birmingham branch which I was at for two years. Industrial designer Advanced Product Development Centre (APDC) Sheffield.Sept 1998 – Sept 99 In conjunction with my MA, I spent I year working at the APDC. A

multi-disciplinary product development centre specifically set up to assist manufacturing companies in South Yorkshire. For the year I worked within a team that comprised of specialists in design, engineering and materials, utilising the centres methodology and leading edge facilities.

My brief for the yearlong generic project was specifically related to the design and development of new and innovative climbing equipment. Adding four professional products to my portfolio.

Outdoor pursuits instructor Acorn Adventure LtdSummer season 1997-98-00 I worked for Acorn Venture as an outdoor pursuits instructor for three

summer seasons, predominantly teaching climbing and canoeing in the north and the south of France.

S.P.S.A instructor. Working with a wide variety of groups within the centre itself, outside on the crags of the Peak District and as safety consultant and supervisor at charity abseils. e.g. Imperial Cancer Research.

Winter 99/00 I worked the full season in resort of Courchevel 1850 (France) as a general assistant, dividing my working hours between the kitchens, hotel maintenance, driving and skiing.

Ski season- NZ Cardrona Alpine Ski ResortWinter 00 To follow the winter in northern hemisphere I travelled to New

Zealand, where I worked the winter season at the Cardrona Alpine Resort in Wanaka, South Island NZ, as a lift operator.

Interests

My main interests and hobbies lie between design and the outdoors. Through further education I have been able to exercise my interests and develop myself further, experiencing and understanding a variety of subject areas applicable to my life as a designer and keen outdoor enthusiast.

My interests in the outdoors, especially climbing, skiing and snowboarding have provided me with the means to enjoy other part of my life, as well as those of employment. Through working as an outdoor instructor and working within a professional team, I have experienced and exercised leadership, problem solving, teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the need for group and personal organisation and motivation.

My interests and work have also lead to travel, not only throughout the UK but also Europe and more recently the southern hemisphere including NZ & Australia. Exploring the Alps and the cultures within, through skiing and snowboarding in the winter and climbing and mountaineering in the summer. I also participate in other sports including, mountain biking, surfing, diving, canoeing/kayaking and ice climbing.
