Presidents message …….Making Memories………. (This was from the 2016 newsletter)
Last year, Will Tilse finally made his pilgrimage to Tangent Oregon. We drove out onto the field he got out of the car and just stood there with his mouth open. He looked North, South, East and West, looked at the flight line and some of the modelers already putting in some trim flights… finally he just let out a long WOW…Then he asked me why I didn’t tell him the field was so beautiful. It IS beautiful!
So once again, we are lining up to go fly at one of the very best free flight venues in the country. (some
may say not as nice as Nick’s field but as Will Tilse will point out, there is no shit pond either)
Come one, come all on this August 17th, 18th and 19th. Free Flight modelers from all over the west coast
will be getting together for this annual “big dog” contest; The Northwest Free Flight Champs! Also in
the mix will be an FAI style contest for both power and P-30 type models (held on Friday the 17st)
There will also be night flying, ROW and to top it all off, a potluck graciously hosted by Glenn and Linda
Grell on Saturday the 18th. The 3-day contest will actually begin on Friday after the FAI events get
rolling. I expect about 10:00 or so.
I anticipate that SAM 8 will once again be well represented. We are sponsoring an OT trophy as well as
the O&R 23. Last year there were entrants from Oregon, Washington, Canada, California, Idaho and
Texas. (Yes TEXAS!) There is camping on the field, (followed by the best breakfast in town!) plus plenty
of inexpensive lodging in nearby Albany.
Bring a friend or two! (I plan on bringing several) For those who don’t have a model, give ‘em one of yours
or one that you have acquired from a former club member. Any way you do it, come to fly, come to have
fun and come to represent SAM 8 and WMC.
Steve Dona, The Prez

Will brought his laptop to show pictures from the Spring Opener. A short delay happened when Will’s computer needed to update. Meanwhile from Steve, Dave King, business cards, business cards. A light prompt to Mr.King. Steve announced that Chuck Bower had donated $100 to the Kibbie Dome in the name of SAM8. A nice round of applause greeted Chuck.
Nick mentioned the ShoWare building in Kent as a contender to the Kibbie Dome for indoor flying.
Chuck gave a short talk about this year’s event at the Kibbie Dome, the events and the people attending. He also talked about a new kit for a smaller version of a F1D.
Steve talked about indoor rubber and the use of a ¼ motor for testing. He related a story of a friend’s effort to test his plane and the foibles he encountered.
Will Tilse presented a slide show of planes and flyers at the Spring Opener. Great photography coupled with an entertaining presentation. Various participants added anecdotes as the slide show went forward.
Attendees for a trim session: the club members were polled.
Three Contest dates were discussed. The names and dates appear below, as well as in the schedule.

….and now, some actual freeflight (fleafright??) modeling news and information, stolen extracted from
the May-June 2018 NFFS Digest. Bob Sifleet and Terry Thorkildsen offer neat and straightforward
approaches and answers to trimming FF pylon models.

Just don’t forget to set your engine/motor timer, set and/or light your DT and allow time for retrieval!
