A Little About Aerial Bunched Cables

With the growing need for long term economy, safety and reliability overhead Conductors are now being replaced by Aerial Bunched Cables both in L.T. distribution network with limited space for clearance. Aerial Bunched Cables are basically a compromise between Power Cables and Overhead Conductors. Due to quick revolutionary growth in various industries in India, people have started migrating in industrial cities/town as a result, cities get thickly populated, and even narrow streets are getting congested.

Page 27: Sam cables presentation

The only solutions to distribute power in such areas, the system called ABC have been now widely adopted all over the world, specially in thickly populated areas and Narrow Street.

Aerial bunched cables (ABC) are a very novel concept for Over Head Power

distribution, when compared to the conventional bare conductor over head distribution system. Insulated aerial bunched cables provide higher safety and reliability, lower power losses and ultimate system economy by reducing installation, maintenance and operative cost. We stand among the predominant Aerial bunched cables manufacturers, in India. This system is ideal for rural distribution and especially attractive for installation in difficult terrains such as hilly areas, forest areas, coastal areas etc. Aerial Bunched Cables are also considered to be the best choice for power distribution congested urban areas with narrow lanes and by - lanes. In developing urban complex, Aerial Bunched Cables are the better choice because of flexibility for rerouting as demanded by changes in urban development plan.

Page 28: Sam cables presentation

Applications Of Aerial Bunched Cables• Aerial Bunched Cables are specially suitable for the following type

of installation conditions :• Where space is limited like those in densely populated area, dense forests.• Where existing Over Head Distribution feeder capacity have to be upgrade

without raising the system voltage with limited budget.• Temporary installations or for those regions where building plans have not

been fully approved.• As replacement of bare lines in Rural Areas, in woods and in other localities

& narrows streets where the space limited.• As replacement of bare lines where reliability of supply is prime

importance.• As replacement of bare lines where high degree of stability of supply

voltage is of importance. • In hilly terrains where cost of erection of overhead lines or under ground

cable becomes very high.• As reinforcement of existing system without increasing voltage.• For temporary supplies.

Page 29: Sam cables presentation

Advantages Of Aerial Bunched Cables• Safest system because phase conductors are insulated, no risk of danger of

accidental touching live conductor.• The total cost of system is reduced due to the reduction in pole heights,

elimination of insulators and associated hardware.• These are cheaper than power cables.• Cores being insulated, the chances of power thefts are eliminated.• Cores being insulated, the chances of faults due to falling of trees or birds

are eliminated.• These can be laid in places where, due to lack of space, power cables

cannot be laid.• Insulation also helps to prevent corrosion of conductor.• Cables are also safe for crossing of telecommunication lines.• All L.T. line faults are practically eliminated, maintaining uninterrupted

supply.• Tripping of Transformers decreases considerably since the line hardly

subjected to faults. Life of Transformers increased as the supply interruptions are minimized.

Page 30: Sam cables presentation

Advantages Of Aerial Bunched Cables..Contd• The problem of Tree clearance is totally avoided due to reduction in pole

height.• Insulators are completely eliminated from the insulation of ABC lines.• The initial cost of laying the line is more or less same as conventional

Conductors.• The Theft of power possibility is reduced substantially since unauthorized

tapping of power cannot be done without removing the insulation.• In remote areas, it is possible to maintain continued power supply with

power.• High capacitance and low inductance leading to low impendence of lines.• Lower Voltage Drop, Higher Current capacities, vis-à-vis better system

stability.• Longer spans and longer distance lines are possible with better system

stability.• It can be over hung in dense vegetation and forests• Additional connections can be easily and quickly made with hot-line

connectors.

Page 31: Sam cables presentation

Advantages Of Aerial Bunched Cables..Contd• Total lines are reduced and maintenance is very easy. More or less

maintenance free.• Multiple circuits of power and telephone cables could be strung in the

same set of poles. In comparison to bare overhead power distribution lines, ABC has very high reliability in maintaining services because power and neutral conductors are insulated with the best dielectric medium resulting in the following advantages: Less fault rate on account of good protection against line and ground

fault by high winds or falling trees or birds especially in hilly areas & forests as encountered in rural distribution networks.

High insulation resistance to earth in all seasons and polluted atmospheres. Negligible leakage currents and low losses.

Better adaptability to run concurrently with existing overhead bare conductor system without any interference.

Stringing– No difficulty is envisaged during stringing of Aerial Bunched

Cables in the conventional

Page 32: Sam cables presentation

Advantages Of Aerial Bunched Cables..Contd

JointingWhile mid-span jointing permissible for LT ABC system by conventional technique, our recommendation will be to draw the line in such a way as to bring the joints at the supports.

Due to above mentioned advantages these types of cables are gradually getting widespread acceptance, specifically in developing countries.

Why SAM cables ?

• High Quality & Energy Saving• We use 99.97% pure, electrolytic grade copper and . Thus, greater flexibility.• Has >100% conductivity which helps save energy and thus, Lower electricity bills.

• Fire Retardant• PVC insulation used has a high oxygen and temperature index, restricting the spread of fire.• Our cables are subjected to 3.3 KV High Voltage Testing to ensure quality.

• Low Smoke• These wires are made with a specifically formulated FR LS PVC compound having low smoke emitting

and toxic fumes suppressing properties.• Ideal for concealed and conduit wiring in multi-storied high rise buildings like hotels, hospitals,

commercial and residential complexes, etc .
