YOUR SCHOOL YOUR CITYGet excited about Samford’s annual YSYC concert featuring Lecrae! Your School, Your City Concert gates open at 5 PM with vendors. They will be there to provide free food, giveaways and services. Concert begins at 7 PM. The concert is free with your student ID, and students may bring guests but they must enter with the student. Guest tickets $10 cash at the gate.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSDid you know that Samford is home to nearly 200 international students from over 20 countries? International Student Development is a primary resource for these students and helps them transition to and thrive at Samford. We plan regular activities that celebrate the international cultures represented on campus. LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENTFellow Samfordians,

I would like to take this opportunity to extend words of welcome to you for this 2013-2014 academic year at our beloved Samford University. I am looking forward to this year to have an opportunity to serve again the Samford community. We here in the Student Government Association (SGA) are ecstatic about this upcoming year. We are excited about renewing ambitions, motivations, and determinations that will be displayed through the bright minds of our university. This year shall be an opportunity for you to paint on your own canvas of your personal development and involvement on campus.

Our university as a whole is working towards making this year better than any year before. I can tell you that our SGA is working everyday in order to assure that we are truly For Students, for a Better Samford. We are here to better serve undergraduates in every capacity possible. Our doors are always open to hear the concerns of our student body.

Whether this is your first year or your fifth year, just know that the SGA is here for you. We want to be able to provide you the opportunity for you to leave your impression upon Samford. Once again, we are here for you and for the Samford community; so if you need anything, please do not hesitate to let me or another Executive Board member know. Go Bulldogs!

GREEK LIFEWe have a LOT in store in Greek Life for the fall semester as all Bulldogs new and old come to campus for 2013-2014 school year!

RECRUITMENTInterested in fraternity and sorority recruitment (rush)? You’re invited to take part. Registration is online at www. samford.edu/greeklife. For more information, come to one the info sessions.

Deadline to register is Tuesday, September 6th!

SU GREEK LIFE IS GROWINGThis year Samford fraternities will be adding a new chapter. Alpha Tau Omega will be joining the Samford IFC. This is the first new fraternity to come to Samford since before 1930.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is exploring student interest on our campus. Representatives will be on campus this fall to gauge interest in starting a Samford chapter.

GREEK SPEAKGreek Speak, hosted by NPHC, will be Wednesday, September 25th at 7 PM in the Howard Room in the UC. Come meet the chapters of the Samford National Pan-Hellenic Council and learn a little about these fraternities and sororities.

HIGH POINT TOWERThe High Point Tower is located across the street next to Homewood High School and is open to students/groups for team building or climbing. There is a minimal cost for the usage of the facility.

FACILITY HOURS:The hours of operation can be viewed on our website at www.campusrecreation.samford.edu. Please remember that you need your Samford ID card to access the facilities.

CAMPUS RECREATIONCampus Recreation invites you to come and enjoy various workouts in our facility.Throughout the year, students can get active in Aerobics, Open Recreation, Climbing, the Pete Hanna Fitness Center or Intramurals. Campus Recreation has something for everyone!

CHECK OUT OUR UPDATESIn 2012, we added new equipment to the fitness center, a new cardio room in Seibert gym and additions to the Loft (game room) in Seibert.

In 2013, we added new scoreboards in Bashinsky for intramurals and group usage allowing teams a complete sports experience. We have also added WiFi to the Intramural Complex and will have iPads on the fields for intramural games to register and check-in players.

NEW STAFFJames (JW) Lail has joined the Campus Rec staff as Coordinator of Campus Recreation. JW comes to Samford with more than 6 years of working in Intramurals, and he also spent a year as a Campus Rec Intern at Samford. JW is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Eric Hughes will join the Campus Recreation team as the new Intern for the 2013-2014 school year. Eric comes to Samford from Indian State University where he was the Intramural and Club Sports Supervisor. Eric is completing his degree in Recreation and Sports Management with an emphasis in Youth Leadership. Eric is a native of Commiskey, Indiana.
