MEMORIES: WE ALLHAVE THEM, BUT DO WE ALL NEED

THEM?

Opinion MEMORIES ARE MORE

THAN ELECTRICAL IMPULSES; THEY CONNECT TO OUR SPIRIT

Advice CHERISH YOUR

MEMORIES, THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES YOU HAVE

Why is this important and how does it add value to the larger good?

Holding on to our memories is important because in our last days of life we need happy, lasting memories to hold on to as we journey to the next place.

By having more good thoughts than bad informing our behaviors, we act in ways that help make the world a better place.

Citizens of the world who represent the majority. They struggle with who they are because most of their memories, and are in a never-ending cycle of denial, haunted by their past. The boy who inevitably saves humanity was born to this group.

Information on Geographic Boundaries The story takes place in and around Montauk, NY, where there is a rich connection to the Native American Spiritual belief systems. As it unfolds, fans will learn more about the connection between Spirit and Soul. Fans later discover this is only one of many areas where the Montaur use memory wipes to control the masses and make them do their bidding.

High Concept Erasing memory as a way to regulate and control humanity leads to the decimation of the species.

Unfamiliarity Fans will discover new details about the world and how humans have become nothing more than puppets. Society has become dependent on memory wipes to have “peace”, which is the daily ritual. This version of the world is unlike our own, focused on a society that has lost its will to exist in its natural form.

Special Sauce Erasing memories is impossible. It cannot be done, and this creates an unnatural dependency on the technology. As a result, society quickly spirals out of control, which leads to the destruction of our global infrastructure. Humans no longer think for themselves and only do what is necessary in order to get their next wipe. Because memories are part of what makes us human, our bodies reject the technical intrusion and humans are in a constant state of duress. While we are passive, somewhere deep within us, we know something is very wrong.

Historical Reference

The American history of the area dates back to the early 1600’s when the Dutch first encountered Native Americans. Many of the places in the area have Native American names. Many believe memories cannot and do not perish when a person dies, but are reborn into the body of another person. This theme is central to the story we are telling and, because of over 400 years of historic information, there are many more stories to be told.

The World in Montaur Times

WHAT’S IN A MEMORY?

This is a world where memory wiping is as common as breathing, and it is everyone’s civic duty to get wiped daily. Society exists with no interest in doing anything more than what’s needed to get the next wipe. As a result, society has collapsed and there is no regard for human life. Animals enjoy more freedom than the masses. Government is no more, taxes and monetary systems are no more. The notion of marriage, or committed relationships, has long dissipated into a vague memory, and few hold that memory dear.

Train transport is the only real transit available and few people have the mind to use it. Instead, most people stay at home where they are in a near-vegetative state. Citizens have menial tasks they do daily after recovering from the wipe. Naturally, they tend to sit all day and this results in major health issues.

Montaur began as a business enterprise and quickly morphed into a cult. As time passed by, the cult became a fully embraced Spiritual entity that holds power over the masses. As a result, the Montaur consolidated power and decided the payoff was better than the sacrifice when their philosophy was embraced. Seeing this as a value, they began enforcing strict adherence to their rules. Those who refused met an untimely, and sometime horrid, death.

A group of citizens refuses to acquiesce and spawned the birth to the Rebel movement. Using guerrilla tactics and disguises, they wage a never-ending battle with the Montaur to restore mankind to its previous state, thereby saving the world.

Set in the Northeast region of New York, society lives in quaint yet impoverished communities.

The weather is similar to what it is today , however, because of the loss of much of the infrastructure, disease and ruin persists. Hospitals are only shell buildings where people live. Doctors go through animated motions but do not practice their craft. People simply wanted around the hallways dazed and ignorant of everything around them.

Solar power is the only source of energy, and because of that, the environment is clean and pure. Forests thrive, flowers and indigenous animals thrive. The air is fresh and clean yet few are even aware of this reality.

Memory wiping technology is the only form of advanced technology in existence and it is highly protected by the Montaur. All other forms of technology are illegal and punishable by immediate execution.

There is no distinction between race, class, of caste in the masses — they are too far removed from such thoughts. The Montaur regard all others as “less than” and treat them as such. A side effect of the treatment is the inability to feel compassion and this helps the Montaur in implementing their designs on society.

Memories are catalogued and safeguarded at a secret location and no one has access to them except for the Elite. These memories also have a need to be free, restored to their rightful owners, and it is the awareness of this need (by the Rebels) that compels them to continue their fight for mankind.

West Coast 1 - Feature film

TITLE: ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND - Present Day

SYNOPSIS: Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) is an emotionally withdrawn man, and Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) is his girlfriend who is a dysfunctional free spirit. They are inexplicably attracted to each other despite their different personalities.

They do not realize it at the time, but they are former lovers now separated after two years together. After a nasty fight, Clementine has had her memories of their relationship erased from her mind. Upon learning this, Joel is devastated and goes to the doctor to have the same procedure done. However, while unconscious, Joel has second thoughts and decides he wants to keep his memories of Clementine.

Much of the film takes place in Joel's mind as he tries to find a way to preserve his memories of Clementine, and two Lacuna techies Patrick (Elijah Wood) and Stan (Mark Ruffalo) try to erase the memories. We watch their love and courtship go in reverse: The memories are slowly erased while Joel tries his best to resist the procedure and hide inside his mind.

In separate and related story arcs, the employees of Lacuna Corporation are revealed to be more than peripheral characters in scenes which further show the harm caused by the memory-altering procedure. Mary (Kirsten Dunst) has had an affair with the married Dr. Howard Mierzwiak, who heads the company (Tom Wilkinson). She agreed to have the affair erased from her memory when his wife discovered the relationship.

Lonely, socially inept Patrick becomes fixated on Clementine and uses Joel's personal mementos that he gave to Lacuna as part of the procedure in order to seduce her. These romantic entanglements turn out to have a critical effect on the main story line of the relationship between Joel and Clementine.

Once Mary learns of the affair she has had with Mierzwiak, she steals the company's records and sends them to all of its patients. Thus Joel and Clementine both get to listen to their initial tape recordings at Lacuna, and afterwards realize that even if everything in life isn't perfect, their relationship can still be worthwhile.*

Plot for Inspiration

People who resist or run away from love always find them drawn back to it.

Protagonist / Salable Description Joel Barish / A closed-minded, laid-back and oddly naive man who genuinely wants love. His disposition, the recurring memory wipes, and shyness makes finding love difficult. He is motivated by impulse and tries very hard to hold on to his memories when he realizes how important they are.

Antagonist / Salable Description

Lacuna, Inc. / Corporate entity that is slowly gaining control over the masses via its memory wiping technology. The company is beginning to understand just how valuable its technology is when they realize people keep coming back for treatment. The company also realizes memories are not as concrete as they had initially believed. They discover some people can hide memories, and they are beginning to investigate people with memories that will not stay wiped.
