Founded by Spanish Conquistadors in 1542, Mérida serves as the capital of the State of Yucatán. Nicknamed the “White City” in honor of the color of its buildings, its spotless streets, and the traditional dress of its residents, Mérida is a charming city which wholeheartedly embraces its rich colonial heritage. Mérida’s commitment to music and dance (there are public performances every day of the week) sets it apart and makes this city particularly enjoyable for visiting music groups. Collect your luggage and move through customs and immigration. Meet your local Mexican Tour Manager and load the coach. Transfer and check-in to a local hotel. Evening Dinner as a group in Mérida then return to the hotel. DAY TWO: MÉRIDA (B,D) – Performance #1 Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. This morning, enjoy a guided walking tour of historic colonial Mérida including the Casa de Montejo, the Plaza Grande, the Paseo de Montejo, the Palacio de Gobierno, and the Palacio Municipal. DAY THREE: MÉRIDA (B,L) – Performance #2 Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Transfer to a local Mayan village near Mérida. Outreach Performance at a local Mayan village (TBC). Afterwards, enjoy time to meet/greet

the local residents. Afternoon Lunch will be provided. This afternoon, enjoy a trip to the

cenotes near Cuzama (be sure to wear your swimsuits under your normal clothes).

Enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride through the countryside to the cenotes followed by free time to swim in the cenotes.

Cenotes are below-ground pools fed

by springs and rivers. The Mayans believed cenotes to be the entry to the underworld.

Late Afternoon Return to Mérida. Evening Dinner on own in Mérida. Enjoy free time to explore Mérida’s wonderful music and nightlife.

Most Saturday nights, there is a market along Paseo de Montejo with food stalls and live music. Calle 60 in the heart of Mérida is closed to traffic for live bands and dancing.

DAY FOUR: MÉRIDA (B,D) Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. This morning, enjoy a visit to

Celestún, along the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy a boat ride through Petenos

Ecological Reserve – famous for its mangrove forests and wildlife (especially pink flamingos).

Afternoon Return to Mérida. Lunch on own in Mérida. Enjoy time to explore the weekly

celebration called Domingo en Mérida (Sunday in Mérida) – the main streets in central Mérida are closed to traffic and cultural concerts and a bazaar are held.

Evening Dinner as a group. The rest of the evening is free to further explore the activities and shopping stalls of Domingo en

Mérida.

DAY FIVE: MÉRIDA (B,D) – Performance #3 Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. This morning, transfer to a local community center, school, or children’s home. Outreach Performance for local residents at venue TBD. Afterwards, enjoy social time with local residents. Afternoon Lunch on own in Mérida. The afternoon is free to explore Mérida

– possibilities could include exploring Mérida’s outdoor markets and its shopping district called Casa de Montejo, the Archaeology Museum, the Museo MUCAY, take a day trip to the Maya ruins at Uxmal or enjoy the amenities at the hotel (all costs on own).

Evening Dinner as a group. This evening, enjoy the weekly

performance of the traditional dance of the Yucatan called the Jarana at “La Vaqueria” (traditional celebrations) then return to the hotel.

DAY SIX: MÉRIDA → CHICHÉN ITZÁ / VALLADOLID (B,L,D) Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Check-out of the hotel and load the coach. Transfer to Chichén Itzá (~1.5 hour drive). Renowned as one of the largest and most

impressive of all Mayan ruins, the city of Chichén Itzá was at the center of religious and political life for hundreds of years. Its pyramids, temples and ballcourts attest to the power, ingenuity and grace of the ancient Mayan culture.

Enjoy a guided tour of Chichén Itzá. Afternoon Lunch as a group near Chichén Itzá. Transfer to the nearby town of Valladolid

and check-in to your hotel. Enjoy free time to explore the charming colonial town of Valladolid (highlights include the

Cathedral, the Cenote Zaci (in the heart of the town), and exploring the shops and vendors along the main square).

Evening Enjoy a Farewell Dinner as a group in Valladolid to celebrate your Yucatán Performance Tour! Return to the hotel.
