    Water Wheel

The water wheel is slapping the river. The axleIs always thirsty thats why the imminent plungeIts accompanying ashseems to be the ulfllmentO certain arousals. The turning happens becauseThe world happens, which is to say stars continueTo dri in the direction o the wind like a clusterO salt. The water, as you know, cannot be

Immobilized. The concept o a dam is similarTo the concept o God. What will swarm will splinterTheir winking lights across the darkness, carryingTheir packets o discrete intelligence. Should weFasten our belie in such small things? The miracle is how the nearby village makes useO something that is there already: eveningsDovetailing leaves and carapace, interiors

O soness that constitute ruits, and the riverWhich is now ululating in a feld o stones.Animals, at the onset o unmediated dawn,Will drink rom it, water grasping their tonguesWhile the many-winged blue that has been in vigilWill disperse, revealing the soened buckets o wood.

    Two Figures

The eye does not have to open its watery vision in the poem which is its own feld

The air snatches the distance between the seen and the equally seen

So they may come ace to ace, they who or the longest time need to speak

They o course sit without eyes although the feld is awake, at the tip o its grass

Let them utter, let their words rise up and reveal their glinting periscopes

In the feld which is a marshland, where grass undulates, nervous with light

Both o them crawl rom their chairs which sink their wood into the so earth

They seek the light o each other which is the eye they le in the womb o the aerlie

The eye blinks the blur o what is considered as the eternal, identiying element

But how about them, the two on their knees, searching or a hard notion o glass

Arent they eternal and identifable too? Look how they poke the clay with their fngers

They know what they are doing, they are aicted with something more than hope

    Alexandria

Is the cityscape the fnal arbiterTo the doom long heldBetween the eyes o pharaohs?

Isnt it such an achievementOur stark assembly o starsHeld in long columns o glass.

Who wants to locate a soulOn the orty-ourth oor?Down below is a convenience store.

I look up and the buildings stagger. We know you are small, ha ha ha,They say, and the concrete shimmers.

Alexandria, bring me backTo the ick o sand that roarsBeore a slanting pile o bricks.

They ashion heaven here. The seraphs fnesse their tiesInto Windsor knots.

I need to be treated like copper.I cant stand the elevatorsSinging like cons.

Blast open the enclosed spacesWith the army adriIn your winds.

    Never Enough

because death rattles against the ribcage and the black birds swoop down

to pluck the eyes o those who have made a living out o sight

because the years are not accountable as architecture

and what one leaves behind is a feld allow or not

and who will be the ultimate surveyor o ripeness and intent

when the sky is simply a stay o molecules (no god there)

and the violence we examine closely is the usual horror we are ready

to inict on someone else because goodness doesnt measure

to the velocity o its coming and going

all o us are mute academicians enthralled with the spectacle o our own demise

we do the unthinkable we all in love we build bridges we wash our aces

we make ourselves presentable to the stars (swarming jury)

we emerge into the sunlight o the worlds lie and try to make it as our own

lipsticking our days with blood carving our makeshi bluing spaces

because o that we think the earth is generous we orget the driing ash

poverty abstract as our elongated contemplation o certain darkenings

laughter is our gi no one can harm us as long as we swimmingly hum

with the tune o the spheres brokering no ear in our smallness and vapidity

we become our own enemies we wage war against the assailing clarity

sometimes we are ashamed o this the unorgivable ogginess o our stumbling

the damage we caused as proo to what we hold dear to contentment

aer all the body (the admirable, indeatigable body

the body that will wake up independent o will)

ollows us with its broken spleen and splintering heart

i truth be told the rabbinical blur we glance against this is not soul
