Claire-Lise Matthey Anderegg“Transported”

My paintings speak through layers of color, texture, shape,Transferred images and symbols.

As my journey continues, I take the time, as in my yoga practice, To breathe in, to breathe out,

New ideas come from within and from without.Like a sponge I absorb the beauty I see around me.

The gardenThe beach

The little trail through the meadowThe street of my town

Or the painting visited in a museumBecome sources of inspiration.

All these impressions move in and outThe dialogue continues while painting

Images of dreams are released What appears on the canvas is always surprising, changing and mysterious.

Each painting is unique

As a mixed media artist, I love to explore all kinds of materials along with acrylic paint. These can include collage elements, transferred images, coloring with pencil, using ink or charcoal. I work on paper, canvas, board, or mylar.

Born in Switzerland, Claire-Lise has lived in San Diego since 1989. Both continents have made their impressions and enriched her life. With many years of practicing art, she has taught experimental mixed media painting, conducted workshops and demonstrations to diverse groups all around the County. She has served as juror for the SD Watercolor Society, Del Mar Fair, and numer-ous art associations. Her work has been shown in galleries in San Diego and Tucson.

Juror: Betsy LaneRegional Exhibition

12/13/13 – 1/19/14

Betsy Lane established the Del Mar Sculpture Garden in 1998 follow-ing eighteen years as a gallery owner in San Diego. She has built numerous collections, has curated over fifty exhibitions, and has established working relationships with hundred of artists, collectors, and art-world professionals.

In 1998 Betsy relocated to Del Mar and opened the Del Mar Sculpture Garden. In 2004 she also began curating a sculpture garden at The Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad, California.

The Del Mar Sculpture Garden attracted the attention of local media, including major San Diego city and county monthly magazines, news-papers and business journals, along with the CCN local affiliate and Channel 10 Evening News. In 2006 the property in Del Mar was sold, and Betsy Lane began consulting with both public and private clients with an emphasis on large-scale sculpture.

Lane gives her clients the options of purchasing existing works, or, when appropriate, site-specific commissioned works that integrate the work with the environment. A specific program is devel-oped for each client based on their needs and areas of interest.

also one addition to the Advisory Board, Alessandra Moctezuma, Mesa College’s Gallery Direc-tor. The new Board members will participate in the process cur-rently underway to select a new Executive Director.

Since the last Journal, SDAI has been very fortunate to receive the last allotment of the trust funds left to us by Robert “Beto” Am-bler. He is among the greatly ap-preciated member donors, as is Ginger Wallace, who were gen-erous in life as well as in their legacy gifts honoring the mission of SDAI. To all those who support SDAI, thank you.

Art of Photography Show

The Art of Photography Show, an international competition and exhi-bition of photographic art, kicked off its exhibition on October 12, 2013, with the Opening Reception Gala and Awards Ceremony. The public reception attracted over 1,000 people, including artists and collectors from around the world. Guests were able to mingle with the artists in attendance, sample hors d’oeuvres provided by Coast Catering and wine by San Diego Wine Storage, while viewing the 201 images selected by this year’s judge Julia Dolan, Curator of Photography at the Portland Art Museum. During the awards ceremony, Art of Photography Show producer Steven Churchill and judge Julia Dolan presented this year’s artist grants, totaling $10,000 in cash awards. The Art of Photography Show will be on exhibit through November 17th, 2013. You will not want to miss this incredible exhibition.

The Gathering is a social, relaxed group where artists, aficionados, their spouses or significant others meet over potluck to discuss their latest work and adventures. Children are welcome but the work is not censored, so parental discretion is strongly advised.

The next Gathering dates will be:

Nov. 3 and Dec. 1Description and schedule:• 3:30 to 4:00: bring artwork and check in.• 4:00: doors are locked (ring the doorbell after 4).• 4:30-5:30: artists break off into groups of 9 artists to

present their work. (If enough under-age artists bring work, they will be given a separate group and leader.) Non-presenters can continue socializing or join the group of their choice.

• 5:30 to 6:00: groups finish up, reconvene, socialize and/or help tidy up.

Artists can bring up to 3 pieces of artwork. All skill levels show work for fun, feedback, mentoring and exposure. In the UU tradition there will be a ‘question of the day’ (hereafter known as ‘the Molly’), which artists can answer or ignore when showing their work.

Artists are encouraged to bring show flyers, books, magazines, announcements, etc., to share. ‘Cost is just $5.00 per person.’ Everyone is also encouraged to bring food for the potluck. Jonathan will bring his famous guacamole!

New members: this is a great opportunity to meet other members, show your work and see the work being created in the San Diego area.

Everyone else: show us your work, whether you’re getting into the juried shows or not. We want to see what you are doing and have the opportunity to talk with you.

SDAI is continually growing and evaluating programs in order to provide the artist community with exceptional programming and opportunities. Feedback is always appreciated and, if you would like to do so, please email Lesley Anderson at: [email protected].
