Words from the President

The 4th

has come and gone and we’re ap-proaching the fair and quilt show fast and furi-ously. PLEASE be a good member and partici-pate in both of them. There are so many oppor-

tunities for you to serve. IT IS FUN!!!!

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE JULY

MEETING. IT WAS AN ACTION PACKED DAY. WHAT AN INSPIRATION SHARON

WAS. I’LL BE CHECKING THOSE CLEAR-ANCE FABRICS A LITTLE CLOSER.

Thank you Deb for the enchiladas and to

everyone who brought food and helped clean up and put things back in order. You really stepped

up to the plate.

We’ll really miss sweet Helen Sharer and Gerrie Moore,

wonderful examples of grace and strength.

Sincerely, Bev Spellbring

2018 Quilt Show Report

Theme of the Show: “Over the Top”

2018 Guild Quilt Challenge “A Blast from the Past”

Goal: Is there a technique or tool that is new to you that you’ve been wanting to learn? Inspire your quilting talents by trying something new. It could be paper-piecing, applique, embroidery, machine or hand quilting, thread play, various binding techniques, etc. Here’s an opportunity to share the outcome with other quilters. Project must be totally 100% constructed by you. You will be asked to identify what was new to you and what knowledge you could share with others. Focus: Fabrics that bring that nostalgic feeling of years past. Your project must be completed with 50% or more of the challenge fabrics. Fabric: Choose from — 30's Reproductions, Kansas Troubles, Civil War Reproductions, Thimbleberries Size: Total perimeter cannot be more than 144 inches. Shape: Rectangle, square, circle, wedge, odd-shaped, etc.

Timeline: Finished quilts will be taken at the same time show quilts are submitted. Challenge quilts will be displayed at our annual Quilt Show 2018. Remember everybody is winner when we take the opportunity to learn something new.

Happy July Quilting Friends! Thank you for pushing away from your sewing machine for just a few minutes to allow you to read your news-letter. I hope you enjoyed Sharon McConnell as much as I did! She thought we were one of the best Guilds she’s visited. She loved our enthusiasm. Way to go ladies!!! Kind words, thoughts, and compliments go a long way. And, at times, travel to other presenters! So, good for us!!! August 14th Meeting:

We’ll be providing refresher demonstrations on labels, binding, and sleeves for your Quilt Show Quilts. September 11th and 12th: I’ve been in touch with Janna Thomas (Bloc Loc Ruler). Such a nice gal. She will be presenting at our Septem-ber 11th Guild meeting and lead a class, using her famous Bloc Loc Ruler on Wednesday September 12 th from 9:00am-4:00pm. We are working on a place to host the class on Wednesday. I will have that information available at the August meeting. The class cost is $35.00 for Guild members and $50.00 for non-members. Janna is currently working up the class info. You may register for the class at the August Guild Meeting or you can contact me and I will assist you by email or over the phone. I will have Janna’s pattern and fabric information at the August meeting. Hope to see you there! Happy Sewing! Deb Cutler

San Juan Quilters Guild Board Meeting 12 July 2018

Meeting called to order by Bev Spellbring, President. Minutes of 17 May 2018 board meeting read by Ellen Vandruff, Secre-tary. Minutes approved by Connie Polzin and seconded by Kim Duke. Old business Bills to be paid— Bev Spellbring mentioned that we needed to pay First Baptist Church what we would have paid the Civic Center for concessions. Decision was made to pay the church $100/meeting for the use of their building and supplies. All approved. Audit of the books— Kim Duke mentioned that audit has been com-pleted. One check was missing and the auditors were looking for it. Kim realized it was a transaction that had been converted into an elec-tronic check, so all transactions were accounted for. Brenda motioned to approve and Deb seconded. New business Bags of Love— Nadine Zumwalt has asked the guild to contribute to this organization both monetarily and in products. After some group discussion, the decision was made to consider making a one time dona-tion to this effort after the quilt show, depending on how the guild’s fi-nances are looking. This was approach was approved by the guild members in attendance. Community Service— Bev Spellbring mentioned that Grace Place is an organization that we need to add to our list of recipients for commu-nity service items. Connie Polzin— Got in touch with Carolyn Blair (reference board meeting 15 March 2018) in an effort to touch base with some of the original guild members. Will have her write up something; possibly about how the guild has changed since its beginnings. August Meeting— Will focus on quilt show prep, binding, sleeves and labels. There will only be snack items for hospitality for this meet-ing. Motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Bev Spellbring, seconded by Kim Duke. Members in attendance— Ellen Vandruff, Deb Cutler, Connie Polzin, Jill Tanis, Bev Spellbring, Kim Duke, Brenda Bloomfield. Respectfully submitted, Ellen Vandruff, Secretary
