Lentic Systems
• Lentus (Latin) means sluggish
– Contrast “lotus,” past participle from “lavere,” meaning to wash; used for moving water systems
• Lentic denotes “still” water systems
• Lakes, ponds, sloughs, wet meadows, bogs, fens, marshes, swamps, vernal pools, springs, and cienegas
