Join “Ex-Theologist turned Illusionist” Philipp Oberlohr in this dark spectacle with rituals, long lost mediums and the strange experience of knowing what can't beknown.

The uncertainty of the future has driven people to seek the spirits’ advice for centuries. séance plays with our beliefs – sceptics, agnostics and believers alike,when it reveals the answers to our questions... or so it seems.

séance draws on the tradition of Victorian Séances and the Spiritualist Movement. It uses illusions tocreate an interactive experience.séance has toured Europe and has been performed in theatres, cemeteries, a Masonic Temple andthe occasional Hollywood movie press night. Venues include the Barbican Centre, 40 Winks Hotel,Waterstones Gower Street, The Last Tuesday Society, Shunt Lounge London, Mauve-Vienna, OldBoys' School Dublin and some strange living rooms.

Tech Specs

séance is a low-tech – high-impact show that has been performed in a variety of different locations from theatres to clearly non theatrical spaces like castles,Victorian Houses, galleries and living rooms. The show is very adaptable, takes advantage of unique features of each location and only needs a minimum oftechnical requirements in order to run successfully. Audience capacity is limited due to the intimate nature of the performance. However, the Show needs aminimum of 20 people in order to run successfully. Shorter versions for smaller audiences are available upon request.

PHILIPP OBERLOHR (Creator, Performer)

Philipp studied theology (AUT) and physical theater (UK). He has been performing as an illusionist for more than 15 years. Philipp creates experiences using mind-reading, illusions and physical and immersive theatre. In the crossover of magic and theatre he meaningfully engages audiences, going to the heart of theirbeliefs, memories and realities. His work is humorous, purposeful and exciting. Over the past decade, Philipp’s work has spanned from one-on-one installations toto performances for 500. From site-specific experiences to interactive theatre (séance. an interactive illusion, UK/AUT). His work has toured to the BarbicanCentre, Arcola Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith, Ovalhouse London, to Austria, Hungary and Germany, to critical acclaim: “Oberlohr completely wins me round”(exeunt magazine), “genuinely spooky!” (Time Out), “supernatural” (Irish Times).

CRISTINA CATALINA (Producer)Cristina came on board in 2015. She has seven years experience producing internationalperformance projects in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute (at the EdinburghFestival, Barbican, LIFT, Theatre Royal Stratford East) and Firehouse Creative Productions(including Southwark Playhouse and University of Georgia, US), where she is CreativeAssociate. She produced All Change Festival at Theatre 503 and the Lyric Hammersmith, andElevator and The Romanian Season (Time Out Critic’s Choice****) at The New Diorama.
