With the use of toys, the sand and water center provides…1.Chemistry: Mixing, viscosity ( sloshing or oozing substance).2.Math: Comparing amounts, textures.3.Physics: Sinking, floating, absorbing, repelling water and water action.4.Language: Describing actions, events5.Creative: Inventing, experimenting, predicting, testing and discovering.

There should be a significant amount of toys in

the sand andWater center. Different toys provide different

learningexperiences. Such as: measuring cups, funnels,

patterns to make in the sand such as a rake,

sponges, animals, cooking props, dolls, boats

and bowels.

Diversity The sand and water center gives children a way to visually deal with diversity through the different types of toys they use. Every toy is different in shape, size, color and what it can do. Children are also able to communicate with other children that are participating in the center that are very diverse.* Diversity is a huge impact on children as they learn. It gives them a way to depict that some things are different. To ensure diversity is fully covered, there would be toys that look different and sound different but may be the same. Such as fish, regardless of how colorful one fish is compared to a all green fish, they are still in the fish family. Children would learn that no matter how different some things are, they are still much alike in so many ways.

HOW MANY ITEMS NEEDED???

HOW MUCH NEEDED TIME IN CENTER?Children should have a half and hour to a whole hour a day at the center.

They should have at least five different things at each center so that kids can have a variety.

PART 4 THE TEACHERS ROLL

• THE TEACHERS ROLL IS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE STUDENTS GET THE MOST OUT OF THE SAND AND WATER CENTER. ALSO THEIR ROLL IS TO MAKE SURE OF THE SAFETY OF THE STUDENTS.

• SET UP THE SAND AND WATER TABLE ON A SAFE SURFACE WITH A MAT UNDER IT.

• SUPPLY A ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF TOOLS TO USE IN THE SAND AND WATER CENTER

• SUPERVISE CHILDREN CAREFULLY• ASK QUESTIONS TO MAKE THE CHILDREN THINK• OBSERVE AND MONITOR CHILDREN INTERACTION.

DOMAIN: PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT AND HEALTH

• STRAND 2: FINE MOTOR DEVELOPMENT• B4. DEMONSTRATE GROWING STRENGTH, DEXTERITY, AND CONTROL NEEDED TO

PERFORM A VARIETY OF FINE MOTOR TASKS.• MILESTONE PAGE 125• ENCOURAGE CHILDREN TO BUILD WITH THEIR HANDS WITHIN THE SAND TABLE.

ADD WATER TO THE SAND TO SEE HOW IT REACTS AND ABLE TO HOLD TOGETHER FOR BUILDING TOWERS OR CASTLES. ALSO ADDING SMALL TOYS FOR CHILDREN TO HAVE TO PICK UP TO ADD TO THE CASTLES, SUCH AS SHELLS AND ROCKS. THIS WILL HELP WITH THEIR FINGER AND HAND CONTROL.
