Sander Safety

Check the abrasive on the sander. Make sure it’s the right grit for what you want to do.

 Don’t use the sander if the disk or belt is loose, burned or damaged in any way.

 Always wear eye protection.

 Shirts sleeves should be rolled up and loose clothes should be tucked in.

Sander Safety

Long hair must be tied back or worn under a cap.

 Never stand at the side of the sander, and make sure no one else stands there while it’s running.

 Never sand free-handed. Use the table to support the material.

 The material must be large enough to be held safely.

Move the material back and forth to prevent burning.

 Don’t leave the sander while it is running or coasting.

 Keep your hands and arms away from the moving disk/belt. The sander is a cutting tool.

 The wood you sand has to be dry, with no resin, paint or finish on it and with no nails or other defects in it.

Hold the wood so your hands and fingers stay clear of the belt/disc at all times.

 Don’t sand small pieces of stock on the belt sander.

 The friction of the sanding can cause burns. Be careful when you touch a surface right after sanding it.

 The belt and disc sander are power tools, they must be used safely and correctly.
