COUNSELLING SERVICE
Sandhurst Counselling Service
(SCS) evolved from a drop-in service started around 18
years ago at St Michael’s
Church from a Divorce After-Care project. Its purpose is to enable individuals to
recognize and handle the feelings of guilt, anger, etc. within themselves, accept and value themselves, and to
cope practically with their situation at a time of mental distress and anguish. These principles have not changed.
In August 2011 the service became a charitable
organization independent of St Michael’s. Most of its clients are referred by their Doctor, Health Visitor or
Talking Therapist but they do accept self-referrals.
SCS Counsellors enable a deeper understanding of the
client’s feelings, enabling them to make changes and
decisions for themselves. Counselling is beneficial for a wide range of conditions.
The aim is that counselling is available to all irrespective of financial status so they offer it ‘free at the point of
need’. Each session costs about £45/hour to provide, and clients are asked to consider what they can contribute to
allow the service to continue. Although they receive a
grant from Bracknell Forest Council they rely on donations for the majority of their expenditure and are always
looking for more financial supporters to help develop the service.
All the Counsellors in SCS are have undertaken
professional counseling or psychotherapy training and are professionally supervised. The service adheres to the
ethical framework for good practice of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Residents survey shows
Sandhurst has a lot of caring
people
In a recent residents survey conducted by Bracknell Forest Borough Council it was discovered that Sandhurst has a high number of residents who participate in volunteering in some way either through a club or organisation or individually.
Central Sandhurst 39%
College Town 38%
Little Sandhurst 45% and Wellington
Owlsmoor 35%
If you would like to contribute more to Sandhurst then contact Sandhurst Town Council or your local Councillor who will be pleased to provide you with details of all the organisations and groups that are always looking for more volunteers.
Sunday Market closes The organisers of the Sunday Market have regrettably announced that they can no longer provide a Sunday Market in Sandhurst due to the small number of stall holders that are coming and the drop in customers. There are a number of factors, not least the weather that have contributed to the closure. Thanks go to everyone who tried to get this great idea to work.
