School Fund Donations

Donations to our school fund this term have included the following:

Mrs Cartmel, £100 Britannia Inn, £150 Mrs Glasgow, £100

Staff and parents have all been very actively involved in fund-raising for the school. Donations sent in on World Book Day meant we were able to send £83.03 to the World Wildlife Fund and the ‘Share A Card’ Hospice appeal at Christmas saw our staff give generously, donating over £60 to the cause. Our recent coffee morning in the Coronation Hall raised £478.93 and the duck race on the 10th March raised £250.20, with prizes going to M Sutton, Elaine Cowan, J Glasgow and H Tagimuri. Profit from last Friday’s disco was £170 and our Skyecycle collection meant we received a cheque for £250.20. (Please note that we are unfortunately unable to accept any more donations for Skyecycle.) Finally, Charlotte put in an application for funding to CGP, to purchase some trampettes to have in school. This followed the positive feedback received from attending classes in Barrow. It was a successful application and we received £1190, so well done Charlotte and many thanks to CGP! Donna applied for funding from the Sir James Fisher Foundation, which will go towards our new build. A great achievement. Many thanks to everyone who has donated, helped or turned up to support these events. They are always good fun but a lot of hard work goes on for these things to happen, so well done to everyone for supporting our school!

In creative crafts this term we have made a large egg and rabbit for the Easter trail on the canal. We have all enjoyed painting and decorating the large egg and rabbit. They will be there for the Easter half term if you would like to see them.

Fellrigg

Fellrigg have enjoyed visiting a café run by Sandgate School pupils in Kendal this term. We have chosen from the menu, ordered and payed for our food. We have been making new friends and hope to continue going in the summer term.

Cabaret Night - Tuesday 3rd April

As we went to press preparations were underway for the Cabaret Evening on 3rd April at the Forum. It looks like being a great night out. Tickets are still available. Everyone welcome.

Grizedale – What Came Fist, The Chicken or the Egg?

In January we had a great five days away at Calvert Trust. We did swimming, archery, abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, bush crafts, horse riding, cycling and dancing. We all had an amazing time and would love to go again.

In creative crafts this term we have made a large egg and rabbit for the Easter trail on the canal. We are all enjoying painting and decorating the large egg and rabbit. They will be there for the Easter half term if you would like to see them.

Calvert Trust

This term Hoad have been learning about sea life and have been out clearing plastic off the beaches and having fun in the puddles. They have posters about not using single use plastics. As a reward for all their hard work they went to visit The Aquarium of the Lakes.

school this term. We have received donations from Sir James Fisher Foundation, Children in Need and CGP Trust Fund. I hope this success streak continues so our new school can be amazing!

So as you can see we are all working hard as a team to ensure we have the very best of everything in school to support our fabulous students – it is what they deserve and have waited patiently for.

As I celebrate making it through my first year in headship I shall be looking ahead with my trusty team to all the other fabulous experiences waiting for Sandside Lodge in the future.

Wishing you all a lovely Easter break and I hope to see some of you at the cabaret night.

Head Teacher’s Thoughts (from back page)

Spring has sprung at Sandside Lodge!

I have lots to be thankful about this term and I’m not sure you would have realised that I have now been the Headteacher at Sandside Lodge for a whole year! Yes, I have completed all three terms and seen the school through the sunshine, floods and snow and now hopefully back to the sunshine again!

During my year as the Headteacher I have learnt so much about myself but especially about the students I am honoured to serve. I have seen them flourish and bloom and grow in confidence. It still makes me smile each and every day.

Some of the wonderful things I am thankful for are the efforts of the fundraisers who have organised and ran a number of events such as; the duck race, coffee morning, Scales WI event, school disco and the up and coming cabaret night on 3rd April at Forum 28 in Barrow where our students will be performing on stage. (Tickets are still available at The Forum and on the night – I’ll see you there!) They are a valuable source of income for school fund and will help us purchase much needed equipment for the new school, which is due for completion next May. At Last! Without you, our parents, carers and friends of the school these event would not be possible. Thank you so much!

Next term a group of ‘Sandside Stormers’ are walking from Coniston to Barrow to raise even more money. I am being joined by lots of the health professionals that support our school so I know should the heat (or lack of!) or exhaustion get to me I will be in good hands. Please support us if you can.

I am also grateful for all the charitable bids we have won for the
