I. Approval of Minutes of March 30, 2015—The minutes of March 30, 2015 were approved as written.

II. Public Comments—Mary reported that there will be a “Showcase: Resources Fair” on May 14, 2015 from 11:00-1:00pm at The Spot. The Classified Staff requested this professional development activity to strengthen communication between eth District and the College. Please see the attached flyer.

III. TLC Work for TodayA. ILOs: Communication Skills (deferred to 05-04-15 from 04-20-15)—The

members of the TLC reviewed all the division ILO charts and made recommendations for improvement. It was determined that changes should be made fall 2015 in a pilot project at the course level. Bonnie will report to the Academic Senate on May 12 to get more feedback. (Please see the TLC ILO Report attached here.)

B. Accreditation Recommendations for Follow-Up Report—Bonnie reported

that there are several things the College is doing to improve Institutional Effectiveness that will be included in eth Follow-Up Report. The first iteration of eth Report will be ready for Accreditation Oversight Committee review this week. The TLC will receive a copy at the next meeting after AOC and other input is received. Bonnie also reported that she would be happy to do professional development for the new standards.

C. Student Success and Equity Plan Update—George reported that there will

be further discussion as to how to incorporate Equity into program review. George has already visited 22 departments to initiate discussions about Equity; he is very eager to visit all departments. Please email or call to make an appointment! George also reported that funds for next year’s Equity Grant is forthcoming.

D. Professional Development Update—Mary reported the following:1. Glenn Doolittle spoke to the faculty development Workgroup regarding

Incentivize developing NEW curriculum Fresh ways for delivery:  CCC Confer, text messages, games (digital, scavenger hunts, etc.) Hooks that create a buzz and focus on benefits for faculty:  Nuggets from New Faculty/Master Teachers; What can games teach us about learning? Humans of SAC (photo contest); BYOD brown bag Keep it simple, unexpected, concrete and credible

I will be contacting you or your department re offering/requesting workshops for faculty and staff, e.g. health and wellness (Elliott Jones, Michelle Parolise, Brian Sos); Student Equity; Curriculum; TracDat; Tech Tips; Reading Apprenticeship; Distinguished Faculty Round Table; Teaching Tips/Reflections from our 14-15 new faculty; Book of the Year Activities; etc

E. Update Academic Program Review—The Academic Senate will approve the new program review templates on May 12th; the Senate President has requested input regarding the templates prior to that meeting. George and Mary recommend an enhancement to the statement about Equity in both the Annual and Quadrennial Capstone Program Review Templates. For the Annual Report, it is recommended to add a question 4: Identify an Area of Disproportionate Impact in Success Rates within the Department/Program. For the Quadrennial Capstone Report, they also recommend adding a question in which the department updates what has been done in the area of Equity concern stated in the Annual Reports.

F. Book-of-the-Year Update: I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood up for Education by Malala Yousafzai—1. Yolanda will continue to maintain the BOTY website next year. We will need to form a committee to help with the programmatic aspects of the BOTY. 2. John T. has provided a list of

nominations for the TLC to consider. Three selections were chosen: Code Talker: A Novel About the Navajo Marines of World War II by Joseph Bruchac; Mindset by Carol Dweck; and Spare Parts: Four Undocumented Teenagers, One Ugly Robot, and the Battle for the American Dream by Joshua Davis. Yolanda will provide a brief description and the reading level, which Bonnie will send to John. John will then conduct the college-wide voting on Survey Monkey.
