Governorʼs Message

Santa Cruz Moose Lodge #545 Moose Men, Women and Families:! In November, thanks to Corky and his crew, members enjoyed a turkey dinner with all of the fixinʼs to kick off the holiday season. The District Social in November had a great turnout for the tri-tip dinner. And the prime rib dinner in December for the benefit of Valley Churches was a fun evening which included a visit from Santa Claus. Thank you to everyone that had a hand in the holiday fundraising during the last few months. The Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545 – your lodge – made a difference in our community this holiday season in many ways. THANK YOU to everyone that volunteered in any way. Letʼs keep up the good work in the new year. ! Upcoming sporting events include the Super Bowl Party with a potluck spread of delicious food on Sunday, February 5th. NASCAR Day on Sunday, February 26th will include a potluck with raffle prizes and a driver draw. And donʼt forget to come by on NFL Sundayʼs to enjoy breakfast and cheer on your favorite team with fellow Moose members. ! The California-Nevada Moose convention will be held in Reno from March 22 thru the 25th. If anyone is interested in attending, checkout the website for registration to the mid-year convention at: www.ca-nvmoose.org.! I am always searching out members that would like to show off their cooking skills for Friday night dinners and even for Thursday Night burgers. Also, there are many maintenance and cleaning chores that are required around the Lodge, let me know if you would like to volunteer. !Wishing everyone a prosperous new year.

Greetings to all the men and women of Santa Cruz 545,!! There are 2012 coupon books for all kinds of things in Santa Cruz county on sale now in the Social Quarters. If you havenʼt gotten them yet, donʼt wait too long. I look for them to go fast. You use one coupon out of the book, youʼve paid for the book. The rest is just cash you can save. ! Thanks to all the cooks, helpers and even the people who wash the dishes for another great year. However we can always use more burger cooks. Get a small group of your friends together and sign up to do burgers every so often. The more cooks we have, the less often you have to cook. That makes it easier on all the cooks. ! We still have 55 members who havenʼt paid their dues. If you are a sponsor of some one in this category or know someone who hasnʼt paid their dues yet, encourage them to send them in or even faster is to pay them online.! All in all, it has been a great year. It is also time to start thinking about the next Board of Officers. The Nominating meetings start in February. Interested in running for an office? 545 NEWS from Myra!

There are lots of people to thank for contributions and volunteering!     Linda Lillihaugen made and donated that wonderful stain glass moose in the social quarter's window.     Deanna McManus of Ivy's Porch, (Scotts Valley), donated porcelain figures and a great carousel horse for the Valley Churches raffle 12/2/11. Jocelyn Rodgers painted and decorated the horse and turned it into a piece of art. Margot Kemp also from Ivy's Porch donated a gold center piece. Mic Brown made his famous chairs.    George Cordova is donating small redwood trees to plant around the grounds.    Last but not least thanks to everyone who helped put up the

Holiday Dinner in Santa Cruz!!

Pictured below are 545 volunteers, MHCAN staff & volunteers. 545 Through out the years has supported this organization during their Holiday dinners. With the coordination of 545 lead Chrissy Harmon Ham and Veggies are prepared at the Lodge and delivered to MHCAN. On, Saturday, December 17, 2011 over 275 meals were served!!

Members, Ladies, family and friends, who participated in the fundraising and holiday festivities over the past couple of months, deserve a huge “THANK YOU”. You all made a difference by volunteering or donating for our community. The reincarnation of the Holiday Boutique raised funds for the Lodge and Walnut Avenue Women’s Center. The Valley Churches Holiday benefit dinner was a grand success, thanks to many that helped make it possible. The Mental Health Client Action Network received food for their holiday dinner thanks to several helping hands preparing hams and bean casseroles. Thank you everyone that was involved! Moving forward to a brand new year – 2012! The Ladies have stepped into Thursday Night Burgers as a team. If you would like to join in on one of the four nights we have in the upcoming year, please let me know. We also will be cooking dinner on the first Friday of every other month. The first Friday dinner will be pizza on January 6th. And we will continue to provide desserts every Friday night, our biggest fundraiser. Check the calendar for a date that is convenient for you. Everyone should be proud of what we have accomplished as a Lodge.
