2ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

THE LAMB OF GOD Behold the Lamb of God! We hear this phrase every Sunday at Mass, but there's a good chance that many Roman Catholics do not know who in the Bible originally spoke it. The phrase ap-pears only in the Gospel of John, on the lips of John the Baptist, who utters it twice. In today's Gospel reading, John proclaims Jesus as the Lamb of God, and two of John's own disciples then follow Christ. A little bit later Andrew, who heard John and then fol-lowed Jesus, brings his brother Simon to be re-named Cephas, or Peter. A careful look at these Bi-ble verses shows us the mission of everyone bap-tized into the Body of Christ: we must always pro-claim our faith in Christ, so that others will follow him. We may not know how the will of God might work through those we bring to Christ; that is not the point. The point is that our ongoing mission as a church is to bring others to Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

LET US PRAY FOR OUR DECEASED Patricia Petrizzo (nee Jennings), 80. Wife of +Dominic M.; mother of Susan (Carl) Salvato, Dina (Tom) Crivellone, and Donald (Diane) Hall; grand-mother of David, Dani, Darcey, Salvatore, Carla, Dominic, and Anthony; sister of Wayne Snider, and +Gloria Ann Mills, and +Sonny Marcus; Sister in law of +Madeline (+Michael) Cappetto, and +Marion (Michael "Pike") Alebich; aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was buried on Friday, January 12, at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. May she rest in peace.

This Sunday, our second collection is for the Church in Latin America. For many living in Latin America and the Caribbean, rural terrain and lack of ministers make it difficult to practice the faith. Your donations and renewed support will fund catechesis, marriage and family life programs, and seminarian formation so people can grow closer to Christ. Please, prayerfully consider supporting this collec-tion as a way to share your faith with our brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean. To learn more, visit www.usccb.org/latin-america.

SANTA LUCIA PARISH

WINDOWS CAMPAIGN AT SANTA LUCIA SCHOOL Windows Campaign is in progress. We are still looking for do-nations to cover the cost of the win-dows for the Santa Lucia School building — $8,000 is still needed. If you have not yet seen the windows, please, check out the north-side of the school building. The windows look beautiful! The school is already saving money on the energy bills! The new windows offer better insulation for our chil-dren, keeping them warm during these cold months.

Eileen Sheedy, Principal

ST. JOSEPH’S TABLE We will celebrate St. Jo-seph’s Table on Sunday, March 18. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. followed by blessing of St. Joseph's table and altar in the school hall. Pasta dinner will be served from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Free will donations are appreciated.

ARE YOU A REGISTERED PARISHIONER? If you attend Mass here regularly, we encour-age you to register as a member of Santa Lucia. Reg-istering in the parish makes the process much easier when it is time for infant baptism, religious education registration, weddings and when asked to be a spon-sor for baptism or confirmation. Registering is easy. Visit or call the Parish Office (312-842-6115).

PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS TO THE ALTAR If you would like to present the gifts to the altar at any Mass, please, see one of our ushers be-fore the Mass. It would be beautiful if we would have different families at each Mass, or to have you if a Mass is being celebrated for your intention.

RCIA - ADULT PREPARATION FOR SACRAMENTS Are you curious about the Catholic Church? Have you been baptized but never formed in the Catholic faith? Have you never been baptized? If you can answer “yes” to one of these questions, RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) may be what you are looking for. It is a program for adults who did-n’t receive all of the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist), and now would like to explore the possibility of fully entering the Catholic Church.
