There are different reasons why companies decide to undertake projects to convert

their Desktop Intelligence content to Web Intelligence. The benefits of these

Step 1: get the lists of the documents from the various business departments

along with their priorities

Step 2: set full client documents as source, migrate these with the upgrade

management tool.

Step 3: run the conversion using the report conversion tool

Step 4: review conversion result, review the logs

Step 5 :Estimate the level of rework for each document. Set categories: no

rework / some rework / a lot of rework / needs to be recreated

If not validated, the documents are sent back to the conversion team

About Upgrade management tool Desktop Intelligence

Plug-In

Using the Desktop Intelligence plug-in for the upgrade management tool is optional

Use when Desktop Intelligence document dependencies are not clear, and when you will

be using the 4.0 Report Conversion tool rather than the XI 3.x Report conversion tool to

convert Desktop Intelligence documents.

The plug-in is intended only to calculate dependencies and bring it forward to 4.0 CMS, not

to upgrade Desktop Intelligence documents.

We understand the challenges in migrating

We’ve been working closely with customers in their move to BI 4.0

One of the requests from customers is the ability to support their DeskI

(.rep) content in BI 4 as they continue to convert them.


We’ve been investigating…

A Solution which:

Allows consumption .rep from BI 4

Providing additional time for conversion

Reduce TCO for customers

Also doesn’t:

Conflict with the DeskI EoL

Cause a roll-back in the strategic move from DeskI to WebI

Using DCP (1)

To enable DCP and connect Deski XI3.1 SP6 FP1 or higher against a BI4.1

environment a single configuration steps have to be executed:

Manually copy the <server>.extranet file

copy from: "C:\Users\<User>\Documents\My SAP BusinessObjects

Documents\LocData” (BI41 location)

to: "C:\Users\<User>\Documents\My Business Objects Documents\LocData”

(XI31 location)

To create the file if not available, please check the DCP FAQ



Using DCP (2)

Are there any changes in functionality when using DCP?

Except for Scheduling, DeskI Desktop Client with DCP is expected to have the

same behavior and functional capabillities of DeskI 3.1

Running Macros with 3.1 CMS when DCP is installed

DCP Limitations

As there are no Desktop Intelligence engines within the BI4.x Platform,

several limitation are to be considered when leveraging DCP

1. Scheduling is processed on client side (using Windows Scheduler)

2. DCP Scheduling is only compatible with Windows 7/8/8.1

3. When the user is connected to a BI 4.1, Login As to a SBOP Enterprise 3.1

Server will not work due to limitations. The user will have to Exit DeskI

client and login to the SBOP Enterprise 3.1 Server

4. Opening DeskI Desktop Client in 3-tier/ZABO mode from BI Launchpad is

NOT supported

5. When BI 4.1 Clients is installed side by side to 3.1 Clients, Opening DeskI

3.1 from Infoview will not work


DCP Scheduling

Scheduling for DCP is executed by Windows Scheduler (Win7/8/8.1) on the

client side (no server based scheduling)

Scheduling works in both 2 and 3 tier mode

Schedules can be created while importing/exporting documents

Schedules can be managed via Windows Task Scheduler

No option to hide solely the Section Header/Footer in WebI, Section Hide
