GIN SAP Workshop Leadership Guide of STAGE 1: Pre-Conference
for FALs (Facilitators-Adviser-Liaison)
ReminderPlease check out ginmanila2012.wordpress.com for helpful videos and more details as to understanding the concepts involved in Stage 1.
The information posted in ginmanila2012.wordpress.com is for the delegates and the general audience, but the explanation for them should also help FALs get on the same page of understanding as the people coming to participate.
First Step: Meet and Discuss, then make Decisions
What to do at this meeting? Introduce yourselves Discuss the issue as a whole, research if needed Discuss understanding of the Pyramid and the 4 compass points Clarify understanding of WHAT ARE REFINED ISSUES?
READ this page please: http://ginmanila2012.wordpress.com/sap-methodology/stage-0-2/refining-
the-global-issues/ Clarify understanding of VISION
READ this page please: http://ginmanila2012.wordpress.com/sap-methodology/stage-0-2/common-
visions/ Think and decide on 5 possible visions per compass group = 20 visions thought
of.
The 6 people meet as the FALs:
4 workshop facilitators1 adviser1 liaison
Second Step: Create Your First Blog Post
Reminders:
Each group will be given its own page on the GIN Wordpress
Only SAP leaders + advisors can post
Delegates can comment, so other tasks we later require the delegates to do can be done as comments.
First Blog Post:
Introduce the global issue; write up a ~200 word introduction to the issue which will later be sent to delegates through email (see next slide)
Summarize the pyramid structure & explain compass groups Link them to
http://ginmanila2012.wordpress.com/sap-methodology/stage-0-2/compass-groups/
Include the 5 choices of visions per compass site Link them to the following:
http://ginmanila2012.wordpress.com/sap-methodology/stage-0-2/refining-the-global-issues/
http://ginmanila2012.wordpress.com/sap-methodology/stage-0-2/common-visions/
Third Step: Draft (and later, Send) Your First Email to DelegatesWhat to say in this First Introductory email:
Introduce the global issue; include the short intro to its scope and issue as a whole
Summarize the pyramid structure & explain compass groups Again, link them to the page:
http://ginmanila2012.wordpress.com/sap-methodology/stage-0-2/compass-groups/
Ask delegates to EMAIL BACK WITH RANKINGS 1-4 of their preference of compass groups
LINK THEM TO the WORDPRESS POST (“First Blog Post” in previous slide) of 5 choices of visions per compass site and COMMENT which Vision they think is the most fitting (for each compass site). State that therefore ultimately they need to select 4 visions (1 top vision from the 5 choices per compass group).
Send this email to delegates by: Dec. 5Due date for delegates to finish tasks mentioned here: Dec.12
Draft this email by: Dec. 1
Fourth Step: Meet Together to decide 20 Possible Indicators
What to Include in Second Blog Post: Acknowledge the 4 Visions (1 for each compass group) based
upon the votes executed in the form of comments by delegates themselves
Review the page explaining Indicators and Behavior Maps http://ginmanila2012.wordpress.com/sap-methodology/stage-0-2/
indicators-and-behavior-graphs/
Further clarify and discuss concept of Indicators and Behavior Maps
CREATE a list of 5 possible indicators (for each of the 4 Visions that have been decided = 20 indicators) according to respective visions
Fifth Step: Create Second Blog Post
What to Include in Second Blog Post: Declare the 4 Visions (1 for each compass group) based upon the votes executed in the form of
comments by delegates themselves Link them to the page explaining Indicators and Behavior Maps
http://ginmanila2012.wordpress.com/sap-methodology/stage-0-2/indicators-and-behavior-graphs/
Further explain Indicators and Behavior Maps Define and give examples
Indicators = things that help us better understand trends in our global issue i.e. acres of trees cut down per year (deforestation) i.e. number of endangered species of fish (fisheries depletion)
Behavior maps - a visual representation of how you think the indicator acts over time (past, present, future)
This is based on your research but you don’t need data Show whether or not you are happy with the occurring trend using an emoticon The purpose is to get people thinking about what is happening in terms of trend *IMPORTANT: Show an example of a CLEAR EXAMPLE BEHAVIOR MAP showing
vital components to it. This will later be provided by the GIN committee PUT UP the list of 5 possible indicators (for each of the 4 Visions that have been decided = 20
indicators) that FALs have decided STATE THE LINK that there can be a behavior map for every indicator *This must be done before the Second Email is sent, which is discussed on the next slide…
Sixth Step: Draft (and later, Send) Your Second Email to DelegatesWhat to say in this Second email:
Declare the 4 Visions (1 for each compass group) based upon the votes executed in the form of comments by delegates themselves
LINK them to the “SECOND BLOG POST” in which information and embedded videos explaining indicators and behavior maps are in
Ask for delegates to DRAW THEIR OWN BEHAVIOR MAP for AN INDICATOR OF THEIR CHOICE, PHOTOCOPY IT, and POST IT UP AS A COMMENT on the “SECOND BLOG POST.”
Send this email to delegates by: Jan.13Due date for delegates to finish uploading their behavior graph as a comment: Jan.22
Thorough understanding of visions, indicators, and behavior graphs, and a good focus established for productivity to kick in when first actual face to face meeting happens
1 Vision per compass groupTop 1 indicator to focus on, which is DECIDED
BY THE INDICATOR WITH THE MOST NUMBER OF BEHAVIOR GRAPHS made by delegates.
