Amelia Earhart Was born on July 24 1897 in Atchison, Kansas.

AMELIA’S EARLY LIFE

Amelia grew up in a life that was full of their parents leaving her. Her dad, Edwin Earhart and her mother, Amy Earhart usually traveled for Amelia’s fathers work so Amelia’s parents often left Amelia and her younger sister in the hands of their grandparents in which they lived the same house. Amelia’s life was also full of family and friends her cousins visited them a lot. When ever their cousins came they played in their shed in which was an old carriage in that very carriage her cousins and her sister and her had adventures but the best part is that they never left that very shed. It was that Amelia usually participated in “boy activities” as they would say it was improper for girls to do such wild things but Amelia’s parents encouraged their girls to be independent and imaginative.

AMELIA EARHART’S EDUCATION

Amelia’s dad got a promotion for a job in Des Moines. Just Edwin and Amy moved there and let the girls finish school , then once the summer began they moved in with their parents in Des Moines then started school there. On Amelia’s 11th birthday her parents took her sister and her to the Iowa State Fair. That’s were Amelia saw her first plane but she was not one bit impressed with it. It was made of wood and rusty metal. When she was older like in high school she moved six times. Imagine that moving six times till graduating high school. Moving caused her to lose friendships a lot but Amelia did a great job of making friends everywhere.

ADULT LIFE AND CAREER In 1917 Amelia started working at the Red Cross to help wounded soldiers that

got hurt at war. This happened in Toronto, Canada from 1917 to 1918. On her days of she would either watch her former patients take off at the airport or visit her sister in college. When Amelia returned to America she took flying lessons from Neta Snook in 1921 they became great friends. Neta Snook taught Amelia to fly her Kinner Airster Amelia Earhart put in so many hours of flying she worked so hard that she earned her pilots license. The spring of 1924 her parents marriage had finally come to an end it had been troubled of and on Amelia realized she couldn’t save it. After that Amelia was anxious to head back to the East Coast. She sold her plane and bought a yellow convertible sports car and took her mother and her went cross country to join Muriel her sister in Boston. Amelia felt that medical school was not for her. Amelia got a job as a social worker in a Dension House which was a Boston community center. She helped people that moved there from other country’s. She visited immigrant families in their homes she also sometimes stayed for a meal the children loved her throughout Amelia’s life she never forgot them. Amelia loved fly so much that she flied in all of her free time. One day when Amelia Earhart was at the Dension house she got a call and the person on the line said that Amelia was recommended by a member of NAA to fly across the Atlantic as a passenger they said she would be the first woman to fly across the Atlantic she accepted. On June 17 1928 Amelia as a passenger took of on the plane Friendship in Trepassey, Newfoundland. They landed 20 hours and 40 minutes later in Burry Port, Wales.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Some of Amelia’s accomplishments were:

First woman over the Atlantic as a passenger , First woman to fly the U.S solo, Competed in woman’s air derby , Set 3 woman’s speed records, flew in a helicopter alone across America and back, First woman pilot to make the Atlantic solo, made the flight over the Pacific Ocean Hawaii to Oakland California and Los Angeles to Newark.

IMPACT ON THE WORLD

Amelia Earhart encouraged girls to be what they want and don’t let anyone’s opinions get in your way. Amelia attempted some really daring flights and made most of them except her last one.

Amelia Earhart died on her flight from New Guinea to Howland island. Everyone wonders what happened to this wonderful pilot they have found her map with her markings on it, they have searched will they find her?

AMELIA’S SAYINGS

Her most famous saying was “Please know I am quite aware of hazard’s. I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things men have tried. When they fail, failure must be but a challenge to others.”

Another one of her sayings were: ”The effect of having other interests beyond those exclusively domestic work well. The more one does and sees and feels, the more one is able to do….”
