Through the course of this semester I’ve learnt a lot about

myself and what I enjoy and respond well to when it comes to

projects. Having a lot of projects on the go at the same time has

definitely been the highlight of this semester, I find my mind can

wonder a bit if I’m doing the same thing for too long so having

different projects to shift my attention onto has meant I’ve been

more productive. In the same light, I much prefer short briefs as

I never bore of them so when it comes to finishing them off I’m

still excited about the project, I find projects over 3 weeks really

difficult as I lose interest and that affects the final outcome.

Brain storms right at the beginning of a project help me more

than anything else. I like to write everything down and generate

lots of different ideas. I usually then try and leave the project

for a bit and do something else and come back to my ideas

with a fresh head. I tend to pick a few of the strongest ones

and develop them forward, depending on how long I’ve given

myself for the project. I want to develop this by continuing to

take on projects that are primarily ideas based as that’s the part

of a project that I get the most joy out of. As far as the visual

language goes sometimes it comes naturally and almost designs

itself (like the D&AD project I did) or sometimes I have to dig

around and get inspiration via. research. I now need to start

taking more time to visually research things and try and pick

apart what I’ve found and what makes things successful and

what makes things unsuccessful.

My strengths, I feel, lie in the initial ideas of a project. I struggled

a lot in following these ideas through last semester but in

the semester I’ve really tried to concentrate as much on the

visual language as I do the idea which (I hope) shows through.

The Peace One Day project was probably where this is most

apparent and I was proud of my final outcome. That project being

a short one definitely aided me in my success with it.

I also feel like my editorial work is a strength of mine. I really

like the idea of changing what people think a book has to be

which I think is shown most in my dissertation project. That,

again, was a relatively short project.

A lot of the problems I’ve had with my work have been when I

start to lose interest with the projects. Sometimes I get really

frustrated when I can’t figure something out with the project.

I have found it a lot easier to spend time with another project

for a while then come back to it. Also my lack of software

knowledge sometimes catches up on me. It’s really handy that

I’m surrounded everyday with people who can help me when

I’m having issues but soon I won’t be so lucky so I need to start

taking some time out to learn more about the creative package,

primary photoshop.

Environmental sustainability is something that I’ve been

interested in for a while, increasingly with the ongoing

research for my dissertation. It’s something that I’m hoping

I’ll be educated about more as I get into the design world

and something I’ll be looking for in jobs. I’m pretty loud and

opinionated about things which is something that I try to

incorporate into my work as I usually work harder on something

that I actually care about. I’m not 100% sure about what

direction I want to go in next, I like a lot of different parts of

design and I’m hoping that the more places I have experience

at the more sure I’ll be of where I want to go. At the moment

I’ve mainly got my eye on advertising and studios that have a

variation of media in their portfolios.

The brief asked to display one day in time by any means necessary. Instead of picking a day I chose to question what is a day. This infographics poster displays the same day in different cultured calendars through out the world.

The pack for change is ordered via the website that the initial advertisements leads to which includes stickers so the campaign can be brought into daily life and postcards to make those tough apologies and forgiveness a little easier.
