“The school shall have served its purpose best, fulfilled its object effectively,
if, in addition to the teaching of the three R’s and all the things that go by the
scholastic name, the wonderful niceties of life are also inculcated, without
which man as a gregarious animal would be written down in history as a
failure.
Let the school be the centre, the nucleus, the focus, radiating not distrust,
not factions, not a spirit of partnership, but the spirit of oneness and
harmony towards conjoint effort and the fulfilment of conjoint purpose and
the reaching towards that goal for which all of us are yearning.”

Saraswathi Kendra Learning Centre for children was established in 1985 by
The C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation to help children with autism,
dyslexia, learning disabilities and other similar problems. This institution
is named after Late Mrs. Saraswathi Pattabhiraman. It was the first full
time institution of its kind in India when it was established. Saraswathi
Kendra uses innovative teaching methods and therapies and takes a
holistic approach to education. Every child in Saraswathi Kendra is a special
person who is given specialised attention.
The C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation is an accredited academic and
vocational institution of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), which
has made it possible for so many children, who could not have graduated
from main stream school, to complete their basic education. There are
several professionals in the field of performing arts and sports besides young
people who work in mainstream careers who were students of Saraswathi
Kendra.
Saraswathi Kendra gives free or subsidized education for children from very
less privileged backgrounds.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dr. Nanditha Krishna
President
The C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation
Saraswathi Kendra Learning Centre (SKLC) is thirty two years
old and has grown into a major centre for children with learning
problems and disabilities in Chennai. It has been a long and
difficult journey, but our happiness is enhanced when we see
the achievements of our students who have excelled in so many
different fields. It is truly a miracle to see a seedling blossom
into a beautiful flower.
Saraswathi Kendra has excelled in finding out the ability of
each child, treating him/her as an individual and developing his/her abilities. As a
result, we probably have more celebrities than any other schools, since we have
produced musicians, dancers, artists, film makers, businessmen and sportspersons.
Every child should be given an opportunity to develop his/her creativity and shine in
whichever field he/she chooses. All this is not possible without the hard work and
dedication of the Principal and teachers.
In the year 2015-2016, students procured 99% pass at Senior Secondary and 100%
pass at Secondary levels.
I wish the students all the very best and I am sure they will bring laurels to Saraswathi
Kendra in the years to come.

for the success of the students should go to the Principal and staff who have put in
their best efforts to give the students a decent life. The success of this is not
possible without the able guidance of Dr. Nanditha Krishna, President,
The C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation, who initiated this very special learning centre

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S MESSAGE
I am delighted to announce that The C.P. Ramaswami AiyarFoundation, parent body of Saraswathi Kendra Learning Centrecelebrated her Golden Jubilee Anniversary during the course ofthis academic year on October 15, 2016. Over the years thefoundation has grown and established several institutions ofwhich Saraswathi Kendra is one amongst them. Going downmemory lane, 32 years ago in 1985, Saraswathi Kendra had avery humble beginning, and over the years has come a very longway. Today Saraswathi Kendra has become one of the Premier
institutions of India which helps children having learning disabilities.
I am pleased to mention that our learning centre has churned out many celebrities invarious walks of life. Aristotle said “Educating the mind without educating the heartis no education at all.” Apart from studying and scoring well in the exams, equalemphasis should be given to encouraging, nurturing and developing one’s talents andskills. More than degrees and certificates, a truly educated person is one who haskindness and compassion for others.
This academic year has been very memorable because a lot of our students have wonprizes for our insitution. In the NIOS exams conducted in 2016, we achieved 100%pass in the secondary exams, and in the senior secondary exams we achieved 99%pass. It is a delightful and proud moment for all of us.
I thank Mrs. Geetha Mohan (Principal), staff and students without whom ourachievements could never have been possible. By the grace of god we had a successfuland wonderful year and I wish everyone many wonderful years ahead.
All the very best and good luck to one and all!!!

My MOM is my strength; she encourages and inspiresme to be a good human being and supports me to standindependently to face the world and lead a happy andsuccessful life.
MOTHERS seem to have a solution for everything, nomatter what their lives hold. MOTHERS are truly a pillarof strength. Along with teaching me the value ofpromises and self- reliance, she also taught me the valueof hard work.
Archimedes once said: “Give me a place to stand on, andI will move the Earth.” Archimedes was referring tothe lever and force in physics. However, for me, if Icould move the Earth, it would be my MOTHER who gave that place for me to standon. For me to move the Earth, I rely on the structure my MOTHER has provided forme since my childhood. To me, my MOTHER is my foundation and my firm ground.
They say behind every successful man there is a woman. The world is free to interpretthis proverb in their own way, but I owe my life to the woman I have loved more thananything else in my life- my dear MOM.

Learner’s Engagement Activity is a competition conducted by NIOS at all India level.I got an opportunity to take part in it. In LEA, there are many competitions likecreative writing, ole play, poster making, presentation of survey etc.
I took part in presentation of survey along with my friend. We had to choose thetopic for presentation of survey from our text book. The topic we chose was “Rightsand responsibilities of a consumer”.
We prepared a questionnaire for the survey with questions in both English and Tamil. We conducted the survey, analyzed the data and displayed the data as pie diagramswhich were very creative and easy to understand. After the presentation, there wasa round of questions being asked by the panel of judges. We answered all the questionsconfidently and eventually won the first prize.
It was a great experience. I never took part in any competition. This boosted mylevel of confidence. I was very happy and it was a good learning experience becauseI overcame stage fear. The judges were so impressed that they asked me to give aspeech about being a student of NIOS. That was the first extempore speech givenby me. I request all the students to take part in all the competitions that come theirway.
I thank my school and NIOS for giving me this opportunity.

One of my most favourite dog is Dr.Ruffles. I am always happy and excited to seehim. Wherever I see a pet, I stand for a while and ask its name and age.
I love pets. Dogs make us bubbly, cheerful and enjoyable. Every day, I spend qualitytime with pets. Now, I am going to tell you about Tyson and Julie.
Tyson is a very sweet pet. I hug him, give him food and talk to him. I share most of myevenings with Tyson. I enjoy viewing Tyson going for a ride with his dad in his bike. His mom takes him for a walk. I also take him for a walk. He plays with pet bottles. Ispent a lot of time with him when he fell sick. I used to enquire often about his healthstatus to his parents. I used to communicate with him in Telugu. I learnt to talk alittle bit in Telugu.
Julie is a cute pet. She is a new comer. She plays with me every day. She is a veryactive pet. She jumps and pounces on me and licks me affectionately. I communicatewith her in Malayalam. I learnt to talk in Malayalam little bit.

This summar, my parents took me to Munnar for a family holiday. This has become mymost memorable trip. Munnar is one of the most beautiful pollution free hill stationsin the lap of Mother Nature. The beauty of the place and the thrilling experience wehad makes this a memorable tourist spot for me.
As we were climbing up the rugged hill late in the evening, we froze in fear on seeingan elephant crossing the narrow road. However, we stopped our car and waitedbreathlessly for the elephant to pass by. Though the huge animal did not bother us,we later heard from the locals stories about how elephants become violent whendisturbed.
We also saw hills of green velvet with tea plantations. They were a feast to our eyes.We also bathed in a very small but beautiful and safe waterfall. During our trek upthe mountains, we saw samba deer, peacocks and trails left by tigers. After this, wewent shopping and bought tea, coffee and spices for ourselves and our friends.Altogether, this was one of my best tours.

We both havebecome close friends and I play with him everyday. One day, I stayed with him andwe had a nap together. I am worried because I have wheezing and Doctor said thatI should not go near him.
One day, I went near him and he wagged his tail very fast. This made me very happy. One evening, when I was playing with him, my mother called me for dinner. After Ihad dinner, I asked her if I could go back and play with him but she said that I haveto stay at home. The next day, I called all my friends to meet him but my friendswere afraid to go close to him though I told them that he was harmless. He is a verygood dog and I love him a lot.

They went toevery corner of the globe to document the devastating impacts of climate changeand to create a sense of urgency in the people. The documentary was shown to thestudents of Preparatory 3 after which they wrote their views and understanding ofthe documentary. Here’s what the students have to say about the documentary.“From the film, we learn to keep our surrounding clean...They tell us not to burn theforests...The major cause of climate change is global warming and pollution emittedby the factories...” –Vaarun
“When Leonardo DiCaprio was acting in the movie “Revenant”, he witnessed theeffects of climate change. After that, he started travelling to many countries...Hesaw that in China people were wearing masks because of air pollution...LeonardoDiCaprio is creating awareness on climate change because he wants to save theenvironment.” –Preethi
“I understand from the documentary that I should not pollute our environment. Ifthe world becomes polluted, the birds and animals will die...The documentary showshow ice melts to water and causes rise in sea level. This will lead to floods and affectthe people...The movie shows how oil is taken from the Earth. They cut many treeswhich causes the sand to become lose...The top countries contributing to pollutionare China, USA and India...Many rainforests have been destroyed to build factoriesand other purposes. At the end, this killed many animals... I saw homeless baby orang-utans in the movie whose parents were killed due to destruction of rainforests...Pleasestop polluting.” –M.S.Vijay Aadhithyaa
“Global warming is harmful to the environment. Rainforests are beingdestroyed...Leonardo DiCaprio visited many countries to see the impact of climatechange...In the US, the people are using excess of energy and fossil fuels...Air pollutionis being caused when harmful particles are released in the air through factories, vehicles and other human activities. This makes the atmosphere harmful for us.” –Mustafa
“In rainforests, wild animals are dying due to deforestation...Due to climate change, the ice melts and the sea level rises causing water to enter the land...The film showedhow the onion fields in a village in Delhi became flooded because they received their6months’ rainfall in just 5 hours...From this movie, we learn to be kind to the Earthand save it.” – S.Vaishnavi
“Many animals were killed because of rainforest destruction...Oil is taken from theland after destroying rainforests..The temperate is rising and ice is melting causingthe sea level to rise which becomes dangerous to those living on land. Sea level rise

causes ‘summer floods’ in Florida where water from the sea enters land throughmanholes and drainage systems...I also saw how ice has been melting at a fast rate inGreenland...It was shocking to know that the amount of energy used by around 60people is the US is equal to the amount of energy used by 1 person in India....From themovie, I learn that we should not contribute to global warming.” –Varsha.M
“I saw how ice is melting to water in Antartica, which will soon enter the land...Manyfactories are already causing a lot of damage to the environment. Many birds andanimals have already become extinct...Leonardo DiCaprio travelled to many countriesto shoot the documentary. When he was shooting for the movie ‘Revenant’, the movielocation had to be changed since the ice had melted in the location where they wereshooting...He also travelled to a village in New Delhi where the onion fields wereflooded since they received 6months’ rainfall in 5hours...I got to know a lot aboutpollution and global warming through this film.” –Ibrahim
“The film shows the effect of climate change...I saw how rise in sea level causes thewater to enter islands. All the people living on the island had to vacate and move toother places since it became flooded...The water has also become polluted killing alot of fish and other sea creatures...When ice melts in cold regions; the animals livingthere also tend to die. I saw how polar bears are dying and becoming weak due to theeffects of climate change.” –Shruthi.M
“Forests are being destroyed and animals are being killed to build factories and togrow palm trees. The temperate is rising and ice is melting in Arctic and Antarctic. When sea level rises, water will enter the land. One such example is ‘summer floods’ inFlorida..Fossil fuels are being used in excess which is causing global warming. Globalwarming causes climate change and is damaging the environments.” – Abhishek Rao

The Indian constitution in 1950 declared Hindi in Devanagri script to be the official
language of the union. Unless parliament decided otherwise, the use of English for
official purposes was to cease 15 years after the constitution came to effect on 26
January 1965.
Hindi written in the Devanagari script is the most prominent language spoken in the
country. According to the census taken in 2001, 422 million people in India reported
Hindi as their native language. Hindi is widely taught both as primary language and as
second language. However, the attempt to adopt Hindi was strongly opposed by several
non-Hindi speaking states, especially Tamil Nadu.
India is a multilingual country. Article 351 says it is the duty of the union to promote
the spread of Hindi language as a medium of expression but never to use the term
‘Nation lanugage’ for Hindi.

It was the much awaited day- the day on which we were going to leave to Alleppeyfor our holiday trip. We booked Ramada which Club Mahindra had taken on lease. On the check-in date, my dad called the resort staff saying that we needed ataxi to reach the resort. They responded saying that they could not send a taxibecause of a strike which was going on. We never knew that the strike in Keralawould be so serious. I was heartbroken thinking that the trip would be cancelled. My father said everything would be alright because he was trying to makealternate arrangements. He booked a hotel near the station where we couldstay till the strike came to an end.
We left home at 7:30pm, took a taxi and went to the Chennai Central Station. We boarded the Alleppey Express. The next morning, we reached Alleppey. Notaxis were available to take us to our resort. Thankfully, there was a police vanhelping stranded passengers to go to their destinations. It was unusual to go tothe resort in a police van but there was no choice. We reached the resort at12:30pm.
We stayed in room number 311. We had our lunch. Then we went to the gamesarcade. We saw that there was a music programme going on. After that, we wentand played carom and went to see the swimming pool. That gave me an idea. Thenext evening, I went for a swim in the pool. It was great fun! We also went for ashikara ride.
The next morning, we went to various temples and offered our prayers to God.We also went to museums. On 16-10-16, we left the resort. We reached Kochiairport which was 3hours away. Our flight number was 6E 698. We passed throughsecurity check before we entered the flight. Indigo was the name of the airlines. We boarded the airport bus which took us to the flight. The flight reachedChennai at 3pm. We came down, took a taxi and reached home. It was an enjoyabletrip!

I got a new bicycle four years ago. At first, I went cyclingfor 2kilometers in my neighbouring area. This gave meconfidence to go to school by cycle every day. My school is5-6kilometers away from my home. When I return home inthe evening, I would become very exhausted, but I nevergave up. I continued going by cycle and gradually cyclingbecame my hobby. It was a good exercise for me and itmade me reduce my body weight as well. My stamina hasincreased and I feel that cycling is a good sport. I am goingto get trained in cycling as I can confidently cycle up to100kilometers.

Hi, I am Vijay Aadhithyaa from prep III. I want to share my experience in the fieldof karate. I was six years old when I first joined karate classes. After two years oflearning, I got my first belt which is yellow grade. After a lot of hard work, I got mybrown belt. After I got my brown belt, I won my first State level championship.Later, I went to Delhi for my National championship. Though I lost the match in thesecond round, I didn’t give up. I continued mastering the art of karate and got myblack belt.
Now, after years of learning and hard work, I have won 35 gold medals, 20 silvermedals and 21 bronze medals. I have gone through a lot of pain in this journey. Ihonestly don’t know why I like karate, but every time I come home with a medal, Iget the happiness which nothing else can give me in my life. This is the only reason Iwant to achieve and learn more in this form of art.
Martial art runs in my blood. My great grandfather was a boxer too. Every time I winor lose, I never give up or lose my confidence. My karate master is a 3 times Nationalwinner. My only aim is to be a Olympic champion in Karate. I love karate.

I went on a vacation to Phillipines with my parents, aunty, uncle and cousins. Everytime we went in and out of the hotel for shopping and sightseeing. We were checkedby hotel security. The dog would smell and check if we had any guns or weapons. Ilove Shadow, the Labrador. I loved Shadow so much that I sked my parents for a petlike Shadow. On the first of December, in the still of the night we were woken by what soundedlike loud burglar alarms and soon followed by screams and wailing. We were not sureif it was human or animal. Laying on our beds, we wondered what was happening. Werealized that the alarms were actually cars crying out as they were drowning. Whatwe thought was as nature’s fury was precipitated by man’s folly. The first law ofecology is that everything is related to everything else. Barry commoner.
It was December 2015, Chennai faced the heaviest rainfall in 100 years. The floodingcaused by the breach of the water bodies brought damage of 20,000-50,000 crorerupees, more than 500 people were killed and 1.8million people were displaced. Howwas it man’s folly?
Well, to begin with, global warming caused by the El Nino intensified the cyclone.Poorurban planning was the single biggest factor that precipitated the flooding. Accordingto a report from the Chennai Metro Development Authority, there are over 1.5lakhillegal structures in the city which have been responsible for the disappearance ofover 300 water bodies. These low lying lands were then turned into concrete jungleswith the very concept of storm-water drains lying largely forgotten. The absence ofproper flood water disposal system or not constructing retaining walls next to thereservoir gates are man’s folly.
People died in their own homes, most lost everything they love in the floods and wereforced to the streets. It still keeps me up at night wondering what horrible thingspeople would have gone through and it wasn’t even nature’s fault.
I don’t pray for Chennai but for the world. Because of human stupidity, we will driveourselves to extinction. So it is definitely man’s folly that brought Chennai to itsknees.

He is one of my favourite footballers. He was born on 5th February, 1985 in
Portugal. He was named after an actor named Ronald Reagan. He got into
soccer and joined an amateur club where his father was a kit man and later
he started playing for a local team. In 1997 at the age of 12 he joined Sporting
CP. When he was 14 years old he started playing semi-professional football
and he stopped his studies to entirely focus on football. Sadly a year later,
he was diagnosed with a racing heart which could have stopped his football
career. He had to undergo a surgery in which laser was used to burn the
affected area of his heart. Within few days of the surgery he started training
which surprised everyone as it was a complicated surgery which would have
affected his career. At the age of 16 he was playing for Sporting CP’s youth
team in which he was unstoppable and impressed everyone. During a match
against Manchester United, his team won against them by 3-1 and he impressed
Manchester United players and the manager. He was so good at the match
that Manchester United offered Ronaldo a record breaking £12million which
made him the most expensive teenager and joined Manchester United in 2003.
He made his debut in Premier league in a 4-0 victory. His first goal was scored
in a free kick in a 3-0 victory which is impossible for a teenager to do at that
age. His first trophy was the FA cup. Later on after his dominant performance
he left and joined Real Madrid for a world record fee of €94 million. He
became the highest paid player. His performance in Real Madrid made him
the top goal scorer of Real Madrid and the world. He was also unbeatable in
the national team also. Seeing his performance he was made the captain of
Portugal in 2006 and later he became all time Portugal goal scorer and
European champion. It was during his captaincy that Portugal had won its
first European Championship. He is a versatile attacker and inspires everyone
with his play of style as he can be a winger and centre. He is known for his
dribbling, feints and step over which has become his trade mark. His top
honours are La Liga Best Player, La Liga Best Forward,La Liga Best Individual
Goal Scorer ,UEFA Best Player,FIFA Ballon d’Or and so on. He is one of the
best players and inspires everyone who play football.
