FAREWELL | This year, we bid a sad farewell to Mrs Helen Barnard (commenced 29 May 2006) who is seeking new horizons and opportunities and relocating to Rockhampton, Mrs Melissa Morrison (commenced January 2020) who has been transferred to St John’s Walkerston and will work full time, and Mrs Jahna Liston (commenced January 2020 ) whose family is relocating too.

WELCOMING MORNING TEA 2021 | A Welcome Morning Tea for 2020 will take place after the second bell Wednesday 27 January 2020 at 9.00am in St Anne’s Hall. This has become a great tradition of our school community and you are all warmly invited to attend. We hope to see you there to spend a relaxed morning getting to know others in the school community. No RSVP is required and the P&F Association supply the refreshments.

END OF YEAR CLEANING OF CLASSROOM FRIDGES | As the school year comes to an end this week, it is time once again to give the classroom fridges a good clean out. Anyone who has a spare 15 minutes to do this, please contact your classroom teacher to arrange a time. If you have the time to be able to do more than one fridge please contact the office and they can organise what classroom fridges need to be cleaned. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

SNIPPETS OF OUR YEAR SIX DINNER | Many thanks to the organising committee for ensuring our Year 6 Dinner was indeed a great celebration. Thank you to Jodie Corbett, Jill Sands, Amanda Whitaker and Dawn Goodman. Your blood is worth bottling!

Sunday’s Gospel Reflection - Mark 13:33-37We know not the hour the Lord will come

Stay awake! With these words, Jesus cautions his disciples to be constantly vigilant and to be alert to the return of the Lord. It is a very fitting way to begin the season of Advent. Advent has traditionally been observed as a time of preparation and waiting. It culminates in the Christmas season and so the waiting and preparation is related to the celebration of the coming of Christ into the world.

Perhaps the time of preparation this Advent is also a call to stay awake and stay alert in faith. One of the great challenges to faith today is the complacency that has taken hold of many in our society. When life is comfortable, the perceived need for faith appears to diminish. Many young people in our society cannot see the value of religious belief or religious practice. In a world of instant communication and instant ‘satisfaction’, the reflective and slow work of faith can seem too much effort for some people. The gospel call to stay awake in preparation for the coming of the Lord is a call to continue the work of bringing about the Kingdom of God.

Over the last three weeks, the gospel passages from Matthew 25 were reminders about continuing to prepare for the coming of the Kingdom. This week, with the beginning of Advent, it is the gospel of Mark that also reminds us that we cannot take the Kingdom for granted and must remain vigilant in working to realise the Kingdom. This vigilance needs to be applied to nurturing our own faith life as well as making a difference in the lives of those around us and the needy in society. Rather than ‘Stay awake!’ maybe some of us need to be told, ‘Wake up!’ It is never too late to pay closer attention to faith and perhaps this Advent is an ideal time to do that.

Loving God, your love has crafted our lives in deep, mysterious and unique ways. From the beginning to the end of our

days your grace weaves its way through, around and within all our actions, even when we turn from you.

Open our hearts and minds to your presence and give us your Spirit that we may dance in the love of Jesus.

We ask this in his name confident that you will hear us.

Amen.

The simplest and most practical lesson I know...is to resolve to be good today, but better tomorrow.

Let us take one day only in hands, at a time, merely making a resolve for tomorrow, thus we may hope to get on taking short, careful steps, not great strides.Catherine McAuley letter to de Sales White February 28, 1841

At St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, we are inspired by the work of Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy by following ‘The Works of Mercy’

Mercy is Kindness

Kindness is donating small items such as pencils, pens, school supplies, food, clothing to our giving box

Kindness is donating money to the Mission Box located in the office

Kindness is preparing a cooked meal to be frozen and passed on to individuals and families in our community who are struggling.

Kindness is collecting cans, bottles, plastic lids to recycle and money collected donated to the Catholic missions.

St Michael’s Sacramental Program

(Reconciliation / Confirmation / First Eucharist)

We are looking to begin the Sacramental Program for students who will be in Years 3-6 in 2021. These students will need to make their Reconciliation during Lent and then they will receive Confirmation and Eucharist in July / August 2021.

Each of these sacraments will require attendance at three workshop sessions. An email has been sent to our current Years 3-6 families to indicate whether they are interested in this program. The form to register for the sacramental program is https://forms.gle/uXpr1SeFg49CL1mR6

The current Year 4 students who have already made their reconciliation and need to make Confirmation and Eucharist will be contacted later in 2021 with dates. If you have any questions, please contact Mr Presley at the school.
